Got my set calibrated... It would be selfish not to share the results. Your welcome.

Hi,
Since I own an 11G (TH42PZ8EA) whould those settings (may) work to my TV? Or would I need to find my own (for my own set)? Thanks.
batpig's Avatar batpig 09:31 AM 08-21-2011
no, they will not work for a completely different model, especially not another model year.

This problem affect to the new Panasonic 2011 plasmas (ST30, GT30 and VT30)? Any info about this?

Thanks!

Not exactly. The black levels wind up slightly lower than where they start at. There is an article on cnet about it. Check it out.

Thanks!

The one with the graphs that show the st30, ect. It was published this summer. That's the one.

I just want to report that after 2 years, my TC-P58S1 still looks amazing. I do not see a noticeable difference in black level.

However, the upgrade bug is killing me.
I am craving a bigger and better TV.
I hope that the coming Black Friday do not present an offer I cannot refuse.

Same here !

My 54G10 has 1700 hours on it and I can't say it got worst in any way.

Mostly watching HD TV (60%), blu-ray (25%) and PS3 games (15%) in dark basement.

I'm still very much satisfied with this product.

I'm still very satisfied with my v-10, and although I don't believe it has risen to a point where using custom settings makes black look gray - I'll tell you right now... If you displayed a before and after picture of your tv when you first got it on a scene with black in it, versus the same scene with your tv now - it's night and day. You just didn't notice the gradual change; but it's very different. Guaranteed.

John,

I'm no pro and don't have equipmenent to test black levels and so on but I can still impress guests with Avatar on blu-ray

Cheers.

Agreed, but only in scene with a lot of black in it. These are still great displays!

Me too. Without using thx, and using custom settings instead, the overall brightness makes the illusion of darker blacks. Even without any lights on I use custom. Looks great with decent settings. I believe and am in full agreement with you. especially on something like avatar.

Unfortunately at the expense of gamma.

Despite the risen mll, my 50" V10 has no -

* Floating blacks
* Fluctuating brightness
* Panel uniformity issues (green blotches)
* Panel buzz
* Obtusive fan noise
* 3D crosstalk

And I can at least dial the voltage back a fraction to retain at least a little of the blacks the TV shipped with.

What I really would like to know is where the cutoff is for what can be done with the pot trimming before issues start to manifest. All I'd like to acheive is to be able to get half way through 2012 and hopefully by then I'll be confident enough to upgrade. I don't expect to get OOTB performance ever again, but if I could get back to 0.016 ftL stable, then I'd be happy enough with it.

lol. Too bad DNICE won't divulge the a-board reset. Beyond that, I did the pot adjustment too; had it that way for almost a year and reset it back. It's weird - no exaggeration, I have so many hours on my v-10 that I almost think that the mll is dropping. It's tough to see the letterbox bars in the photo from empire strikes back on blu ray, here.

John,
How many hours do you have on your Pany ? When did you start to notice a drop in mll?

I'd say 5000 at least. I had my a-board replace too; Resetting my hour count. And then i reset my hour count manually at 1500 or so. I'd say there are 2000 or so by now. Add that all up; and who who knows. I'm not saying my mll has lowered... I'm just saying that I've begun to think that it's possible. The idea has crossed my mind because there were times, before my tv was calibrated, over a year ago or so, where my tv looked a lot worse as far as black levels were concerned. Whether this is an artificial result because I no longer use the thx setting; maybe. But even then, black levels have at least somewhat appeared to have gotten better as I've blazed through the hours on this thing.

Maybe all we needed to do was run continuously until we get to 5000 hours to let the TV "catch up' with the MLL rise Mine definitely has not lowered but I don't think I am at 3500 hours yet. I am still happy with the performance with the exception of the black level . But if it would get back to the original MLL in the future.....

I gave my G10 to my parents and they have it in their basement. I now have a KRP-500M Pioneer. They've had the G10 for a year now and the blacks look better to my eye in complete darkness then when I first gave it to them. I can no longer read a book in the gray glow like I used to be able to. Not very technical, I know. Anybody else with a lot of hours on their G10/V10? Panel age finally catching up to the premature increase of voltage?
