Voted as problem due to the THX decoding issue. If fixed by firmware, it will no longer be an issue.

What's the status of this firmware update being available to the public?

Also, for those that DON'T have the THX issue, are you planning to update your firmware or are you going to leave well enough alone?

guess we need a new poll started since the THX issue is supposedly corrected. btw, I have a 50g10 Oct. 09 build that came with 1.24 and I updated the firmware via Vierra(1.28 Nov.) a month ago then did the new 1.28(Jan. 20) a couple of days ago with no problems. Didn't have the THX problem from the start or now.

good to know that the newest firmware didn't apparently affect your viewing (good viewing) as that is something I assume many of us without problems have had concerns about.

I have used Panasonic TC-P50VT20EA for a few days now and I noticed this strange brightness changing. It annoyes me quite a lot. I paid 1900EUR to get a good TV, I read several comparisons and articles and was recommended Panasonic Plasma (Google "3d tv face off" -> "3D TV face-off: Panasonic VT20 vs Samsung C8000 vs Sony HX903"). Several other sites also recommended plasma because of the good image quality. Well, is this the best picture I can get? Not very good then. I liked my Sony CRT better, the image was of course soft but no errors. My only consolidation is that I am not alone with this, the phenomenon is real and not in my eyes. What I would like to do is punch in to face of the engineer who came up with the idea of ABL. Actually, the problem is same as with all automatic features: how to turn it off?

I don't care about the power consumption. I want a good image quality. It's the job of engineers to provide me one. If bright image uses a lot of power then the power supply needs to be big enough.

I wonder if "Shop mode" would override ABL...

I think you posted in the wrong thread, this is for 2009 models. On your problem, I am not sure of a fix but can you try to lower your contrast setting below 60 or 50? And maybe try Custom or THX mode.

Contact Panasonic ASAP. They often (but not always) agree to cover some or all of the repair cost when the TV dies a month or two or three after the factory warranty expires. They have done this for several people on this forum over the years.

Also, if you happened to buy this TV using a credit card that automatically adds one year to the factory warranty then the card provider pays for the repairs during year two.
