Somebody got the story wrong.

I bought a Pioneer Kuro projector last year for $2600 shipped when Pioneer had fire sales on their projectors when they announced they were getting out of the display business. It is basically a JVC RS2 clone with no discoloration. This model of a projector was worth much more than this last year and it had an MSRP of $9000. Why there were fire sales on the Pioneer projectors is a mystery but many of us who jumped on the deal didn't complain. Maybe it will happen on the TVs as well.

Yeah, I remember that deal, and it all came from legit sources, etc. You made a really great buy on that projector, and maybe Pioneer thought that their re-branded projectors did not have their usual investment. I really don't know. But this particular deal starts out fishy, and w/absolutely no legitimacy to back it up. Pioneer has had no trouble whatsoever getting rid of its stock in plasma displays. Very skeptical on this deal being legit, and would require some accurate info, rather than a "friend of a friend" type stuff.

Those are Elites. The ones that had a probelem were 500m and 600m panels plus turning them on their side isn't an issue, it's laying them flat.

Spoke to the regional sales manager (of Pioneer) for the east coast and he said the OP's claim is totally ludicrous. He went on to tell me that they have not had a panel in stock for close to three months. I sure hope he's just uninformed.

Three months? It wasn't that long ago that some stock found its way to Pioneer's own store. I believe they don't have any stock, but that doesn't mean some units currently being reserved else where in the company won't be let go at some point.

Guys...they are gone. I don't know this for fact but from what almost everyone is saying, then that is the reality. There is not "secret" shipment coming.

The 768p is really fine because I sit 12 feet plus from it.

AVS-itis is expensive!! I'm on the fence here. What do you guys think? I fear the Kuro is the best set available for the near future, and maybe it will be several years before anyone really bests it. I doubt I can sell the Panny for more than 750.00, so the trade up cost is over 3 grand.

I am 2 hours away from my 6020 being broken in and I will do a thorough test on it. I'll post back here later tonight on the results and let you know if it's worth it.

In the past 2 months, I've gone through a Samsung B550, 650 and three Panasonic 58V10s. I loved the V10, so I will be very picky on this 6020FD.

I presume you can return the 6020 for full credit if not happy? While no tv to date is 'perfect', it seems the Pioneers are about as close as one can get. The ability to return it is one thing that makes me a little more inclined to pull the trigger. I can play with one at home, and see how much better it really is that my old set. I did watch Dark Knight for a bit on the 6020 at the store and was blown away by the great PQ. So I bought a copy today and just played it my old set at home. The movie's opening scenes are outstanding, and even look 85% as good on my Panny. The 6020 has far better blacks though. Oh the temptation....my grandparents kept the same tv for DECADES..lol My first HDTV was a 42 inch Sony GWIII in 2004. (which looks dreadful compared to almost any set made today..and cost nearly as much as I would pay for the Pioneer now!) Then a 50 inch Sony A-10 in 2005, a 62 inch Toshiba DLP in 2006 which I kept a week due to seeing rainbow effect. Then I bought a 60 inch A-2000 SXRD in 2006 (BIG mistake that ended up in Sony hauling the THIRD one away and refunding my money) Then I bought the 58 inch Panny 60u in 2007 which has been drama free for nearly three years. Now I want to tempt fate again..lol

Right or wrong about the three months, I'm simply passing on what I was told by a Pioneer "big wig". I'm still hopeful, however.

My wallet agrees with this statement.

I know it's tough to wait, but Panasonic should be rolling out their new V25's soon, and they should be competitively priced...if the 58V10 and 65V10 already hit 8g Kuro blacks, maybe they will be close to 9g Kuro blacks with the V25's?

Almost two mos. ago, just after Thanksgiving, the prices started to go up again, and very fast, as there were very reputable dealers, (few of any, for that matter), that had any left.

Later, like mid-Dec.(?), Pioneer had a few 600M, that sold out in about five days.

They (V10) didn't. The VT25 supposedly will equal, or maybe even surpass, 8G, in this regard.

I would fear that even if the new models match the 9g Kuro they may have the 'rising black' issue where the great black levels are not so great after some use. Very dissapointing to read that Panny is having these troubles. If not I would pass on the Pio and wait for the Panny because it will be cheaper.

I thought it was D-Nice who confirmed that the 58 and 65 already hit that mark? But apparently only those two models.

Or maybe I was mistaken.

If you want the best, and the best by a wide margin, then there really is no reason to wait. It's worth considering that these panels were priced a lot higher when they were still in production. Not a bad deal all things considered.

I got my 151 in March so this will be my first Super Bowl with mine too. I can't wait! I am so FREAKIN' spoiled. Every TV I see now sucks, although my Dad just got a 52" XBR 9 and it is very nice given the price.

Ah, you and I are in the same boat. Bought my Pro-111FD last April, and have been impatiently waiting for the big game!

Would have been sweeter if my Panthers and/or Steelers had made it., but oh well, at least it will look beautiful on the Elite!

Yeah I can return it for a full refund if I'm not happy.

So after playing around with it last night and this morning, I am a bit mixed with my feelings. TV and movies look unbelievable. WAY better than the 58V10 I had.

However, I'm a huge gamer and I'm noticing more jaggies in games. For some reason it seemed like the V10 handled this better and I don't know why. I'd say 80% of my usage with this TV will be gaming.

If you mostly watch TV and movies, then by all means pull the trigger. I've never seen a better picture in my life.

Question - what do you have your sharpness set to on the 6020?
