Now so do I . I decided I would "take a chance" and pick one up over the weekend. It is the quietest plasma I have owned. Can not even tell it is on when muted.

My 58C590 has a slight buzz, but it is very low and extremely directional. If I am looking straight at the display I don't hear a thing, however, if I turn my head 90 degrees either left or right, it becomes quite a bit more noticeable.

Hey guys, I returned the 590 and got c550 from Sears and so far it's way better than my first try.

It has the plasma buzz which I think it's normal and it's not high pitch directional sound like the first TV.

I'm crossing my hands to see whether it's gonna get louder or quieter.

Can any body tell me if the firmware for the 550 is necessary and what are the risk of applying it.

Sorry for the repost but I have to make a decision today on whether to to exchange for different model/manuf or stay with same PN58C7000. What TV would someone recommend that offers the same or better picture quality as the 58c7000 or do you think I should take a shot at replacing the Samsung with the same model? Thanks

Applied the latest firmware from the network connection. Thus far I can't find anything it added or fixed.

I bought a PN50C6500 and it had the audible buzz at low volume that everyone is talking about. After having owned a Panasonic THPZ46U that had slight hum from fans, which did not bother me at all, I decided to return the Samsung in favour of a Panasonic G20. The Panny buzzes just as loudly as the Samsung! I noticed that they no longer use fans to cool the electronics in both Tvs and, upon upon inspection of the interior, the power supply system uses cooling fins(like a PC) to dissipate the heat. It seems to me that in their effort to reduce costs, the 3 manufacturers of plasma Tvs, have moved towards technology which simply emits more sound from the power supply. In short, this sucks! I paid more for the Panasonic to end up with the same result. I am now going to return it and go back for the Samsung simply because if they are all going to buzz, you might as well save the $500 price difference. Btw, blacks were definitely better on the Panny but color and resolution goes to Samsung. Especially if you hook it up to a PC. It does a much better job upconverting AVI files than the Panny. Another point: The Panasonic had no IR issues. On the Sammy, I had to run the scrolling function to get rid of IR on the Samsung 4 or 5 times but it always went away.

Thanks! Its good to know about not using fans anymore which makes sense that the buzz is becoming more of an issue. Sorry to sound stupid but what does IR mean? Thanks

Well, the manager at hhgreg just finished talking to Samsung Tech who informed him that there is absolutely nothing they can do to fix buzzing issue. He stated they are aware of problem but at this time have no fix for it and that replacing it would not help because all are going to have same issue. I'm at the point that I may just return it all together and go back to my 10 year old TV. He is trying to sell me a panasonic but from what I've read they have the same issue. How can you be allowed to sell a product at this price point knowing it has a major issue?

I believe all PDPs have a minor buzz but you don't hear many complaints with the Panasonics like you do the Samsungs.

Exchange it for another unit. They are not all the same. I bought two PN50C550s at the same time, and one was much louder then the other. I returned the super loud one and replaced it with an LCD. Later in the month I needed another TV so I took a chance with another Samsung plasma and it is even more silent then the quieter of the two 550s.

I don't get how this is possible.

How can a major manufacturer like Samsung have the same issue-the DEAL BREAKING buzzing- on their sets year after year?

What's more astonishing to me is that they are continuing to sell!!!! You would figure at this price the BBB would be involved or there would have been something on the news by now.

Have a 50C7705 Eu-model same as US 8000 model and it´s has buzz since i get it home in July. First it have the directional buzz from the front of the panel. Send it to samsungservice in Sweden and the change the whole panel. Got it home and it was silent as a mouse. Then 3 hours later it started to have som buzz(vibrations) from the back where all the inputs are. The funny thing is when u hold the top of the screen with one hand and press on the backpanel with a finger where the inputs are the set get quiet as it should be. I had it send to Samsung again but they dont find anything wrong. Get the set yesterday and after it been runing for about 2 hours same buzz(vibrations) start again. Now i soon off to Spain so when i get home i gonna call Samsung and tell them to listen on the buzz over the telephone. I 100% sure he vill hear it loud and clear.
Otherwise it´s a great tv. Love the picture and the look.

Well, they are the exact same TV, minus some external styling (touch of colour on the bezel). Nothing that would even remotely affect picture quality or black levels so this is likely a picture setting, or far less likely, a defective unit.

But as previously stated, this is a thread devoted to the buzz issue. If you post this type of question in the C550 owners thread you will be able to get more help and suggestions from people who own the same model as you. That thread is here:

I agree! Well I spent nearly 2 hours in the store go over my options. IMO the only TV that matched the c7000 was the VT25 but it would cost me nearly 900 more in the end. So I must decide on one of the follow:

A) Exchange the C7000 for another one in hopes the buzz is minimal.

B) Go with the 58VT25 paying alot more

C) Go with the 54VT25 still paying at least 500 more

Would consider C8000 but its not available through hhgreg.

As far as buzz goes you definitely wouldn't have better luck with the 8000. I have suggest that everyone with a panel that has bad buzz post negative reviews on Samsungs website. You can even post video which I plan on doing. I also suggest asking when they plan on fixing the issue on their Q and A. We could also most comments on other sites like CNET and maybe get a site like Engadget to post on it.

micbob hhgregg KILLED best buy price why not try to get them to drop the price down on the vt25. i got nearly 1100+ off the 65vt25 and got the bdt350 and glasses with it. i mean if they want to sell you a set they should work some with you on price. i ended up buying the 65vt25 for only a few hundred more then the 63c8000 would have been on sale at best buy. i actually liked the sammy picture a bit better overall when i was researching but after finding i know 3 people locally including one person who works at best buy had their c8000's buzz badly and also 2 of those people also had one or more dead pixels i decided to go panny right off the bat. though as i said i did like he extra "pop" i guess it was of the c8000. not at all knocking sammy i just didnt want to take the chance had i not known these people personally i probably would have, my 65vt25 gets delivered tomm and trust me im seriously hoping i dont have issues especially since im borderline ocd lol

Thanks thezman, In talking to the manager he said that was the best he could do on the VT25. I will give it another shot Saturday and I have been looking online to look for the lowest price thats how I got the great deal on the PNc587000. Everything so far shows the 54VT25 being 500 more than the 58c7000. At first I could not figure out why when both models looked great but now that the issue of the buzzing noise and that Samsung is aware of it makes sense now.

Quick buzzing update on my pn50c8000 replacement for the annoying pn58c8000 buzzer that I had...

The 50" after 100+ hours of use still has a much less intense directional buzzing from the front center at 10 foot away than the 58" did over the week I had it. (I'd say neither TV changed much in how they buzzed from when they were first turned on.)

A few observations though:
- I switched the TV to game mode yesterday and it doubled the intensity of the buzz on the 50" when i was a couple ft away. I switched it off game mode and the buzz was still the same. So I did the Movie mode / dejutter on / off workaround to fix the black levels. That still didn't seem to change the buzz, but fixed the black levels. I decided to turn the 120 webapalooza breakin slides back on and that seemed to calm it down after a couple hours. (It still seems to buzz louder though than it did before I touched game mode. But this is behind the panel buzzing, the directional buzzing seems about the same as before.)
- On the break-in slides the TV still buzzes louder on full white "FFFFFF" from 6" away than on close to full black. But the directional buzzing is louder or the same on close to full black vs full white. (On full black it seems like the panel just turns off so there is almost no buzz there.)
- I updated the TV from firmware 1021 to 1026.0 and as expected there was no change in buzzing.
- Non-buzzing note: It seems that running the 120 breakin slides overnight is a good way to get rid of IR too... It's got rid of some IR that was on there for a couple days. (The "ei" in the upper right of our local PBS shows seems to be the worst. It is bright white background with the "ei" in black.) After 100 hours of running the slides the IR is much better. (A PBS show with the "ei" logo was on the first program we watched on the new TV. It stayed there for 2 days. Now it isn't noticeable other than on full black screens after the program and goes away after a couple hours.)

I'll post if something changes... But all in all I'm really happy with the 50" replacement... Granted it is smaller, but no annoying buzzing and it still looks great.

I'm just surprised at all the stuff you "can" worry about / be bothered with on these Samsung plasmas... The buzzing, IR, break-in, firmware, screen flicker, etc. The picture is amazing though which is why I'm willing to deal with it...
