Please report information you have from trusted sources or personal experience with these models as they come out. I had to return my B850 because of buzz. Myself and countless others want to know about these new models. Thank you.
Just wanted to make a post regarding the types of buzzing that I've heard between my 58" and 50" C8000's... I noticed a new type of buzz last night that I haven't heard mentioned before so I figured I'd note it here. (Also to note: I don't have the 58" any longer since I swapped it for the 50". The 58" buzzed way worse than the 50", but I can still hear a similar but more muted buzz on the 50" probably due to smaller panel size.)
Directional buzzing: From 5-10 feet+ you can hear a buzz when your ear is centered from top/bottom and left/right on the panel. (The so called sweet spot.) It is being generated from the panel or the electronics inside the TV. Should be able to get it to happen with only the power cord plugged in. --- For me it was much worse on all black on the 58". This is regardless of if there is a source or not.
Omnidirectional buzzing: This is a general buzz/humm you can hear in any direction pretty equally. It is being generated from the panel or the electronics inside the TV. Should be able to get it to happen with only the power cord plugged in. --- For me I heard/hear this on both my 58" and 50", but this seems to be louder on bright scenes on the 50". (It doesn't bother me much since it goes away quickly and the number of all white scenes are rare. Plus if you drop brightness settings it seems to lessen it.) I can still hear it on all black when I get close to the TV. It is slightly louder in the back.
External Factor Induced Buzzing: This is when something external is causing the buzzing. i.e. From poor power or something you've plugged into the TV. All external factors should be removed to see if you have this issue first, since it is often fixable. --- This was the new one for me... See below.
Last night I was hooking up an old video camera that only has a composite output. To do that on this TV you have to run composite over the Y/Green input. (Pb/Blue & Pr/Red are ignored.) I have my older receiver (VSX-45TX - that can't upscale) outputting the 3 component cables to the TV and receiving as input a set of component cables that I can hook A/V stuff up manually. (I just have the cords sitting in the front of the cabinet so I can plug stuff in.)
Well to make a long story shorter, I just plugged in the Green component cable to the Composite Video out of the camcorder, switched the receiver and TV to the proper setting, and the TV started to buzz loudly and interestingly just showed individual frozen frames of video. (Nothing was plugged into the Red/Blue input cables, but the receiver still had them output to the TV.) So I played around with the setting a bit and found that I had to unplug the Blue/Red cables from the TV to show a composite image on the AV input.
What was most interesting though was that I was able to tap / move the component cables when they were all plugged in to the TV and receiver and I could stop / start the buzzing that was coming out of the TV... So I'm guessing that some other cable was able to induce a signal on the component cables that caused the TV to buzz... On the screen the picture wasn't fuzzy or changing thru all this. It was just on a frozen frame that was output from the video camera. I switched back and forth from AV to component... (Again all of this was only from messing with component video cables.)
So if I ever hear another buzz when watching something using the component cables I figure I'll mess with or replace them first... Since at least for my PN50C8000 the component inputs alone are able to make the TV buzz.
My 63" 8000 was delivered on Mon and set up on Tue of this week and yes I have the buzz. One thing that I noticed about my buzzing is it gets louder depending on the color of the screen. I am running a break-in DVD that scrolls through colors and when the screen goes WHITE it buzzes the loudest.
I was setting up my samsung apps and whilst on the screen the buzz is loud enough to be annoying.
I have to have the volume on at least 8 to drown out the sound of the buzz.

Do you mean volume 8 on the tv itself? If so, that's not too bad. (Not saying it's great.) I've read a number of people had to be around at least volume 20 to drown out the buzz.

Yes 8-10 on the TV to drown out the sound. If this isn't bad should I expect it to stay at this level or is it know to get worse?

Does the Panny have fans? I've heard some people state that the VT25 does and others said that it doesn't.
Any suggestions of good places to buy the VT25?
I have switched the PN63C8000 with the 65VT25 for almost 4 weeks now and so far I have positive feedback (please not backlash from Sammy fans
).
First and foremost, no more buzzing issue in the sweet center spot where you watch the TV (14 feet dead center). The V25 does have a buzz from the back that is specific for all the plasma TVs, but not the "very annoying" C8000 buzz.
The VT25 image seems comparable with C8000.
There is are no image issues yet (but I am still far from the threshold when the blacks allegedly fade)
C8000 is considerably slimmer than V25. No issues if you will keep it on a stand, but if you wall mount, you might consider it.
C8000 has a nice swivel that is lacking from V25.
The 3D Image quality seems comparable between C8000 and VT25. btw, VT25 glasses work at more than 10 feet (constraint speculated in the VT25 manual).
my VT25 came with one 3D glasses box (C8000 came with none).
VT25 is 65", C8000 was 63"; no noticeable difference at 14 feet.
Overall, I am happy with the switch and will keep the VT25. The buzz was real killer for me.
All my purchases were from Best Buy Magnolia. It is not the cheapest place but has fast replacement / no questions asked policies. I got both of these sets in sale (lower price plus 3D blu ray player and 3D kit).

It stinks that you can hear the buzz at all from viewing distance. I'm assuming you can hear the buzz over quiet scenes, which means it's still annoying. But I haven't read too many posts since 2009 where the buzz got worse. There were a few. But most either started out buzzing or they didn't.
I will tell you that if it annoys you now, it will likely annoy you more later.
I got my 58 yesterday and after hearing so much buzz about the buzz i turned it on and was amazed at how quiet it was. There is most certainly a buzz at the sweet spot but i can only hear it faintly with the volume down all the way and running some white and black test slides. Here is the funny thing... if i sit dead center it's there but mostly if i turn my head to the right ear... turn my head to the left ear and it disappears. Guess i have a frequency loss in my left ear. Funny way to find out.
My biggest issue i'm facing right now is just tweaking it out. Blu looks awesome but HD and SD content over fios i'm having some issues with. I have fios and it's looked pretty awesome on my Old Vizio 50" Plasma that just got replaced but i cant get it where i want with this 58 so any cal settings you guys found that works for you please let me know.
I recently received my PN58C8000. I would say that it does not make more noise than any other plasma I have owned in the past (including a 2009 Pioneer KURO). On bright static images (such as break-in images) with no audio and dead silence in my room, there is the usual faint electronic "hum" you will hear on any other plasma or CRT TV.
Mark me down as a no-buzzer.
As an aside, I am concerned that real buzzing issues discussed on forums is making many plasma buyers hyper-aware. As a result, returning their perfectly good plasmas because of the normal sounds an electronic device this size makes. I hope this is not the case. Just a thought!
I'm at about 100ft msl so low elevation I would have to say is out. Honestly I think a lot if people are becoming hyper sensitive to this issue. No doubt there is noise but I don't hear any more than my last 5 year old panel.
I got my PN58C8000 a week ago and noticed a slight buzz when I first got it. At the time I had it on a stand in front of the fireplace (2ft away from the wall). I have since mounted it above the fireplace with a slim mount (1.7" away from the wall), and now am noticing the buzz is more obvious, especially from my viewing distance (12ft dead center). If I sit or stand on either side of the set I can't hear a thing. Also if I have the volume on the set at around 8 to 10 I can't hear it, and with my surround sound on I don't hear it too. Since I am sensitive to the sound now, I can spot it instantly during quiet scenes or even channel changes. The question is, does the buzz normally remain the same throughout the life of the TV, or do most get worse? Wondering if I should exchange it or not, the picture is amazing so I don't want to risk getting one with worse issues. Anyone went from a buzzer and exchanged one for a non-buzzer?
Just as a side note, I have had a 42" Hitachi Plasma set in my bedroom for around 3 years and never noticed a buzz. After realizing that my new set has a buzz, I went up close to the screen to listen on the Hitachi, and guess what, it has a buzz too. The buzz on that set isn't as pronounced as the Samsung, but if I concentrate hard enough while watching TV in bed, I can hear it, go figure. If I never read anything about this buzz issue I probably would have never knew about it, grrrr.

I just replaced my other 50" plasma that died last weekend with the PN58C550 and can confirm there is a very abnormal problem here. It is a higher pitched projected intermittant hum that my grandma said "You couldn't pay me to have something that did that." Upon getting it I was thinking the TV may just hum a little from the back, but I never would have expected this. Returning

Hi everyone. This is my first post but I've been lurking around this forum for a while. Got my new TV about a week ago and it is definitely a buzzer. It got even worse when I mounted it to the wall. I'm still debating if I can live with it or not... I bought it from Amazon so I am considering exchanging it. One question I had was if I choose to exchange via Amazon, do I need to send back the TV before they send a replacement or do they deliver the replacement when they pick up the old TV? Also, any chance of Samsung taking action since this is clearly a problem? Thanks in advance for the information.
Has anybody experimented with placing some sound absorbing material behind/below thier Sammy? Seems that wall mounts accentuate the buzz - might be due to sound reflection.....just a thought and might save somebody some headaches. May also be something that occurs due to the mounting brackets and screws going into the set.
I just picked up a pn58c590 set late today. I read about the ferrite cores in the setup guide. Wrapped the cords around them and still have a buzz. Not sure how loud it compares with others sets but with the tv speaker volume above 5, which is below my normal listening level. This is sitting @ approx 10 ft away.
I can hardly hear the buzz unless i really focus on listening for it. In a dead quiet room it's easily picked up and sounds equal to a laptop/computer is running. Certainly not as loud as a xbox
I have been following this thread/c8000 owner thread for a few weeks now, I pulled the trigger getting a c8000 and the 1st one was a buzzer. It has the Directional buzzing/Omnidirectional buzzing. I can hear it 12+feet away in the sweet spot. I used it for a week to see if I could get over it. Nope. I went ahead and returned it. Got the new one.. and it buzzes just the same. Both have Sept 2010 build dates.
Long story short, I walked into the store, saw the c8000 looked nice, but what I was really looking for was the c7000. They stopped carrying them, gave me a deal on the c8000 I couldnt pass up. I asked the guy if they had any returns due to the buzzing, he said no. I told him if it buzzed Im returning it. Head said no problem. It buzzed, they sent a truck out to drop off a new one. they said if we open the new one its going to buzz aswell. They all buzz. He said that in this other city they had a pretty good amount returned for buzzing and they sent them back to samsung. Samsung told them theres nothing wrong with the tvs.
At that store he said that the manager was telling people there could be a buzzing problem. Most of the Tvs came back.
I dont know what to do, I love the look, the PQ everything but the buzzing. Its looking like the stores not going to give me another Tv.
Seems like the option that has worked for some here is to go with a Panny VT25... Maybe the store would like that since it would cost you more. (Or you can downsize to a 50"... Same panel resolution... It still buzzes, but much less so in most cases. Most people here would rather have a big buzzer than a 50" TV it seems though.
)
Random thought... I noticed that most reviewers use the 50" for their reviews... I wonder if that is why they never mention the buzz? Because, unless you get a really bad one, it seems like the consensus is that 50" ones buzz less than the bigger ones.
I have 3 Samsung plasmas and enjoy all of them. (2008-2010) My overall experience has been positive. However, if the buzz is driving you crazy, why keep it? Eventually you won't want to watch the tv if you can't ignore the buzzing. Why spend your hard earned money on something you simply won't enjoy? IMO, good sound is 50% of the tv watching experience. I don't want to hate 50% of my tv watching experience. I can deal with some line bleed or something like that. But I can't tolerate abnormal sounds from the tv.
I have a 2009 Samsung that I began to HATE due to non-directional buzzing. Just so happened that I moved it into another room and the acoustics must be different because the buzz reduced significantly and I enjoy the tv now.
If they won't let you switch again, take it back and get a refund. Buy from somewhere else or get a different brand.
Ok so my 50" buzzes occasionally (not 100% of the time). Sometimes it can get really loud and annoying, it seems to get loudest when going through the media player menus.
Yesterday I found out that switching to Movie mode will make the blacks much darker, around twice as dark. I used to just use Standard and Cal as my picture modes, calibrated of course, depending on the scene the buzzing could get loud and annoying or not be there at all.
Knock on wood but now that Im using MOVIE mode with its darker blacks I have yet to notice any significant buzzing until I go into the media player menu or internet menu (which changes the picture mode to the default Standard settings I think, because the picture gets washed out). I thought I started to hear it buzz again so I muted the audio but the buzzing was coming from the audio source and not the TV. The buzz is still there but its very faint and far from annoying, its just standard ambient noise.
Movie mode definitely does something to the panel because no other mode can achieve the same black level regardless of settings. I think its similar to enabling Cinema Smooth at 24hz which doubles the brightness of blacks because of the refresh rate change, so I would imagine Movie mode uses a different Hz level which creates much less buzzing (so far, Ive only used it for a day).
So for the people who dont have a buzz are you watching in MOVIE picture mode? Same question to the people who do have an annoying buzz.
Ok, so I bought a Samsung PN58C7000 back in Sept from Amazon, with a build date of April, 2010. Suffered from the directional buzz at center of screen 10' away, like everyone has reported. Kinda bothered me but I thought returning it may get me a worse one.. Anyways fast forward 2 weeks ago, my place was robbed and my TV ended up being destroyed (cracked screen) .. So that one was garbage.. well its in our basement waiting to be thrown out...
So I had to order a new one and since in every aspect I loved the TV, I ordered the same one from Amazon and it just came in today...
I set it up and checked the built date, November 2010... It came with firmware 1030 already! I was surprised!
Anyways, ALMOST ZERO BUZZ!!! The directional buzz is just barely, barely there, I can just hear it if i tilt my head, even volume of 4-5 its gone!!
I am sooo happy!! I am curious if anyone else has a build date of November and hears any buzzing.. I know what I heard before and this set is WAY quieter!!
Just picked up the PN50C680, great so far and minimal buzz. I actually didnt even notice it till I went to go behind the tv to run some speaker wires. I sit about 9 feet away and with volume low I cant hear anything. I am assuming all plasmas have a slight buzz, Is this correct?
I have the 50" C8000 and only use movie mode even on the internet stuff. (I recently found you can use movie mode on the internet / VOD channels also, but I think you have to use the Tools option to get that.)
For me the omnidirectional buzzing is less when the picture is darker either from the mode settings (movie = less buzz vs standard = more) or from what is on the screen (bright = more buzz VS dark = less).
So at least for omnidirectional buzzing I totally agree with you that using movie mode over standard would reduce the buzz overall. (For the directional 10 ft+ stuff it seems that darker can be worse or at best the same as brighter.)
(Btw... The only reason I noticed this is because 80% of the time I sit at about 5 ft away at 45 degrees off angle from the TV. The only time I hear any buzzing then is when the picture goes almost full white. The other 20% of the time I sit directly in front of the TV at about 10 ft away and I don't really ever hear any directional or omnidirectional buzzing from that distance on the 50".)
(Side note: As a comparison between the 50" C7000 and C8000 I listened to a friends C7000 in a quiet area and it is identical to the C8000 in buzzing terms IMO... Very subtle / non-distracting to me... It was the reason I risked downsizing from my buzzing 58" vs trying the VT25... Every 50" C7000 / C8000 I've listened to has been much quieter in terms of buzzing than the bigger sets... I think I've listened to 3 or 4 now.)
