hey, i'm considering the 60PK550 over the samsung PN58B550--are there any standout reasons why the PK is better other than the 72HZ discussed above (internet widgets, is the glare worse/better, inputs, IR, any known issues like black levels and buzzing, etc)

I can't wait to see how Mass Effect 2 looks on this set. Also, since I don't have a blu-ray player, this will give me another excuse to buy a PS3. GOW3 is going to look sick on the set.

Just to verify with other PK550 owners...
Do you guys see a visible glow of the screen with a totally black image or if there is no input (before power saving kicks in)?

too bright in here for me to verify that as of yet. I will post again tonight.
Anyway
input lag according to rock band 2 automatic calibration. 64ms video lag, 94ms audio lag. I have no idea how that compares to other plasmas as this is my first one.

this thing is a mirror when it is turned off ok. I'm uploading a youtube video now i'll post a link when done. I'll look through previous posts here and try to find questions to answer. I was too excited when it got here to do an unboxing video so sorry lol! And i have friends over so its taking me a bit longer to post my experiences because of that sorry.

Also, I now hear a slight buzzing when I'm behind the set, can't hear it from the front. I'm not sure if it was always there. Any Questions?

Did you check the input-lag while the TV was in Game mode? The Game preset (from OSD) should give you the best results about input-lag.

I just picked up the 60PK550 and it really blows me away. It replaced a 46" Samsung LCD and the colors on this thing are amazing, not to mention how sexy it looks on the wall.

I'm sure an extensive search will reveal this next question, but I expected this to have the bad "soap opera" look since it's a 600hz fast set? The 120hz LCD's have that dreaded look to them. What's the difference? I thought this was faster than those?

I strongly recommend you to don't go inside the Service Menu. There is nothing interesting inside the Service menu that is not also available from the OSD.

Trust me, my friend, forget the Service Menu. I know many people that have damaged their TV, or that have had the dub to have changed something. I'm a I.T. Tech, and I know what I'm telling you (I know also how to open the service menu of my LG, and what options are inside it).

No. On plasma, that 600 Hz is related to the subfields (of any plasma - LCD have not subfields system). On the LCD they, instead, are using that "120, 240, and so on Hz) to compensate the low speed of the LCDs panels, which is about 4-5 ms on the best panels, while on plasmas it is usually 0.001 ms

The refresh rate, instead, on these plasma, is always 100 Hz (in the E.U.), and it is enough to don't see that tipical flickering of 50 Hz we have in the E.U. with PAL sources.

64ms seems high though i'm not sure... do you notice any input delay when you are playing rock band at all? input lag is a huge thing for me and from what i've heard panasonics/samsungs aren't too bad... but those numbers on the LG seem high. how does the glare compare to panasonic/samsung? i've heard good things about the pk550...

no time for a nap, you got a tv to return lol
honestly i would return the tv if it had one stuck pixel, unless of course it fixes itself somehow (not sure if thats possible...)
i just think if you pay for something you should get a decent fully working set.

Few posts on here already regarding the TV looking like a mirror when it's turned off. Few posts on here from people who own the TV, like me, and have it at home and have commented that when the TV is turned on the reflection/glare is a non-issue. If your going to make a statement that after looking at the TV in a store with tons of lighting that you can't bring yourself to pick up a set w/o a filter, then your right. You need a filter. BTW, this forum is titled: The Official LG xxPK550 Owners Discussion. Not the: Make some dumb statement about a TV I don't own but looked at in a store with a ton of lighting and decided I need a TV with a filter.

One thing about the MLL. On the "after ISF" PDF it lists 0.0161. (Higher than Panasonic but not after their black level rise!) This is the 50" PK550 model. But on last year's 60" PS60 Chad recorded a 0.0077. Over twice as black!

I wonder if the 60" PK550 will be significantly darker or whether I should just get the 50" (0.0161 is still better than my existing LCD) and be done with it. Any thoughts?

Disregard the black luminance number in the PDFs. I normally use the i1Pro meter for the PDFs, which is an excellent meter for everything except measuring black. It is inaccurate and untrustworthy at measuring black.

When I measure black levels and contrast ratios, I use one of my meters that is good with black readings (either the Enhanced Chroma5 for LCDs or Milori Trichromat-1 for plasmas). The results with these meters are what I quote in the text of the review for MLL and contrast.

The Picture Wizard is a very basic adjustment feature. I tried it a couple of times and I didn't really like the results. I think most people will find with some slight adjustments to the contrast, color, and brightness in Cinema a far better result than using the Picture Wizard.

I would think no since the 350 series is a 720p display, while the 550/750 are 1080p. The 950 may be slightly different from the 550/750 due to the TruBlack filter.

@Mauri: Yes I tested that input lag in game mode

@MBKCPA: I notice lag yes, I am coming from a sony wega crt hdtv set. I don't notice lag in rock band because rock band calibrates itself I have to find out what the input lag is on the other competing sets before I know if I return it though.

Can someone else check to see if they have any dead/stuck pixels on their 550? Usually I am a stickler for these things and would exchange it right away, but I'm worried about getting a set that has even more messed up pixels on it.

I can see reflections of things in the room when the overhead lights are on. If I had lots of windows that I could not cover up I would definitely not get this tv, my Sony CRT was much better in this regard.

I wonder whether the panels in the 550s have been through a sorting process like Panasonic does w/ theirs, so some imperfections are allowed to pass through. (A few stuck/dead pixels, some horiz. line bleed ...) I think the 550 is like the Panasonic U or S series but with much better features and controls. So it might take more than one try to get an acceptable unit depending on how fussy one wants to be as well as the state of the TVs.
