I was looking at the 50" J and K 550 at Visions on Sunday...neither have edge to edge glass. The design is very nice..the picture on the K is ok but it is not a Panasonic.

just got it, 30 mins after using, there's a white line that goes along the bottem. Talk about bulls**t!!! Looks like i'll be returning this back to sears tommarow. I was hoping to try this as my first plasma after being the owner of 3 previous LCD's and have had good luck with them. I dont even want to exchange it. I'll just keep my old tv and get my money back. This really put a bad taste in my mouth concerning plasma tvs now. I had a feeling this would happen after reading all the problems with plasmas. From the burn in, buzzing and now this white line ********.

I just picked up one and it's sitting in the back of my van. I'm thinking this afternoon will drag until I can go home and set it up. Pictures to follow if anyone wants, or I'll let CP handle that aspect. I'm hoping to get mine wall mounted tonight, but we'll see how much time I have since my wife is working second shift tonight.

I just came across an article that may help some. It pertains to THX certification. I thought if someone here was considering getting the PK750 instead just because it has the THX certification, it may be a worth while read.

I got this TV (LG 50PK550) last night. My wife and I hear an annoying buzzing sound while it's on. The buzzing is loudest when you first turn the screen on. This is my first plasma TV so I can't compare the buzzing sound to other plasmas.

The TV itself looks great, my TV has two flaws where the bezel and glass meet. There seems to be a little dot of glue on the glass that dripped from the bezel. The bezel on the lower left hand looks to be scratched on the top, you can only see it if you're standing real close. The bezel loves finger prints, and it tries to collect as many can it can.

I used the built-in calibration tool. The screen looked great, I didn't have any issues with the colors or contrast levels. I used the played Xbox for about 2.5 hrs, and could see some IR when I stopped. I turned the TV on this morning can could still the retained words. The IR disappeared after watching TV for a few mins (less then 30). Again this is my first plasma screen so I don't know if this is what's normal or expected.

We called Sears so that we can return the TV, the buzzing sound is too annoying to accept.

At what number of feet from the TV, can you still hear the buzzing?

I got mine set up last night and didn't hear any buzzing after the initial buzz that occurred within the first couple seconds of turning it on the first time. In all fairness though, I hooked up my Xbox to it and was streaming music through it while I was painting the room that the TV is in, so it's possible the it was buzzing and I just didn't notice it.

There is quite a bit of glare/reflection on the glass, but I'm hoping that I just get used to it. I'm sure I'll be spending more time plopped in front of it this coming weekend.

Here are some pictures for youz guyz...

Looks good except for that "G" in the middle of the screen.

I'd send it back.

I saw one of these at my local Sears and was STUNNED by how loud the buzzing was. This was in the late afternoon so the set had probably been on for hours. I could hear it from 8 - 10 ft away in a very open and somewhat noisy display area. Sounded like an old fluorescent lamp with a bad ballast. I had never heard a plasma buzz this loud before. Buzz aside, the picture was very good on the set.

8-10, I guess. The sound is ignorable when you have the volume on (8+ on this TV). You have to listen for it while the volume is on. I play games w/ headphones/TV muted while my wife is sleeping, so it's probably a bigger annoyance for us.

I've only seen one up and running. It was at Sears and there was no buzzing.

According to some people with expertise on the subject, including D-Nice, the move by Plasma makers to go to the bonded single sheet of glass design, is causing the normal buzz from plasma panels to be heard more. Apparently, the older design, with an additional sheet of glass in front, helped to contain some of the buzzing sound.

Also, younger people are supposed to hear annoying buzzing frequencies more acutely that older people.

Do you fall into that younger age bracket?

I wonder if the optical audio out will pass 5.1? It says nothing in the manual. I know my Olevia LCD doesn't.

My Lg didnt have the buzzing at all. Just that white line, but other then that nothing. Im waiting for my new set to come in. *crosses* fingers. Maybe the initial buzz... But I always have fans on, my computer is kinda loud, ps3 or xbox running can be loud. Gaming computers usually are, unless water cooled. So i'm used to those audible sounds and they don't bother me really. I just phase them out. I did hear start up buzz or a click. But..that's expected in most electronics as far as im concerned.

Even in the store, i didnt hear a buzz. I had my ear up to it and to other plasmas. I never hear the buzz pple are talking about. So, idk..

As far as the IR. Maybe this tv needs a good break in. Theyre are breakin tests in the options menu. I may run those for several hours, while away from work.

I noticed some IR on mine tonight after the Wii was sitting on a screen unattended for a while. It seemed to go away rather quickly though.

Same here with the xbox menu. But it seemed to go away shortly. I just run the IR filter/cleaner that lg has in the menu after each time i watch something. For about a min or so. Just in case. Afterall, that's what it's there for.

Usually it takes at least about 100-150 hours of use before you get the best picture quality from a plasma display, nevermind the brand. For that reason, it is always good to arrange a serious calibration (and/or test) when the display has 200 hours or more.

The best way I suggest you for doing the initial break-in, for those who are interested in that, is to use a 100 IRE pattern (full white), and run it on the display for about 2 hours for session. Then turn off the TV and leaving it off for 1 hour or more, so that the electronics and the panel get perfectly cool, and then repeat the session, and so on. Contrast should be set around 70%, and power saving function to low (or to off if the "low" option is not available). You can also use the internal timer from the OSD to turn off the TV (I don't know how it works on these new models). About 100 hours of break-in by using that system, and you will be OK

The interesting thing on the LGs plasma, on the previous 2008 and 2009 series, and I guess it is the same for these new models, is that you have that 100 IRE (full white) pattern available from the OSD. On the E.U. 2008 models its name was "refreshPDP". They offer it to clean the display in case of bad IR, but it is also perfect for the break-in

BTW, there should be also the "Orbiter" (I don't know the exact name on these new U.S. models) function available from the same OSD setup (if you don't find it on that setup, search for it in the PDF manual). It helps to reduce image retention (IR), and it is always a very good thing to use it during gaming.
