If they do, I'm calling Chris @ cleveland right now to buy it...haha I might still though.

Can anyone who owns this set comment on how reflective the set is? My apartment has EVERYTHING in white, and a wall of glass beside (7 feet from the tv). There is never any direct sunlight though as I am facing pure north.

Pics would be even better!

the tv is pretty reflective, not as much as the pk550 and pk750 though in my opinion, i tried to take a picture but my camera shows more reflection than there actually is

thanks for trying aim1126. Just trying to gauge if it will be too reflective for me, in which case I will move away from this series and get a PK950...but I'd rather have this set, as the 3d is a bonus (not a need) and the silver is pretty sleek lookin.

Heres a pic of my living room on an overcast day, in the afternoon.

yeah i would say thats a little too bright for this tv in my opinion, i have it set up in my room and my window is a little smaller than yours but i have them covered with curtains all the time but if i open them up the picture on the tv gets a little washed out, of course you can always just increase the brightness and i will negate that.

That might be where the improved filter on the 8000 might come in handy.

They add filters, different coatings, and other things but in the end little is changed. Glass still reflects. The more a screen is less reflective, "usually" the picture quality suffers.

Thanks Chris, so are you basically saying that although the Filter on the 8000 might handle reflections better, its only marginal to most people?

I'd really want the 8000, but the price is a bit out of reach at the moment for me, and you guys have the 7000 priced so well, I'm so tempted to call you right now to order one.

That is correct, and there is a fine line too. If the screen is that less reflective the picture quality will "usually" suffer.

So lets say a screens reflection is a 10 ( on a scale of 1-10 ). The filter or coating will take it down to 9.5. Lets say we have a "super" filter or coating that will take it down to a 7. Well I can bet the picture quality will suffer.

Ah, the PN58C7000 just hit

Thanks for the great explanation Chris. I think this will work for me, as although my room is fairly bright, I work 9-5 M-F and don't usually watch any TV until 8ish...

I'll try to decide tonight

Has anyone with the latest firmware for the c7000 tried the switch to c8000? I am ordering a c7000 tomorrow and I'm willing to try it. It would be nice to know if one could go backwards a revision and restore the capability however!

Did Samsung lock this feature out on the 2009 models once it was discovered? If not, they might suppose a few enthusiasts who hack their TVs is not a enough to worry about.

Seems to me that being able to go back and forth without changing hardware is fundamental to Samsung's marketing strategy. Methinks a hardware revision would be required to prevent this sort of thing.

Keep in mind going into service menus and not being a service tech, can in some cases void the warranty. Be careful.

For the people who have done this. Has the conversion taken after turning the TV off then on? Also, are the 8000 functions optional (can you see an improvement)?

Thanks in advance!

The "C8000 selection" on the C7000 brings memories of threats by Canon of voiding a warranty if we installed a hacked firmware version that enabled some software-suppressed features.

I wonder if Samsung reads this and sends an automatic update to disable the cinema smooth and judder canceler while people are sleeping... Soviet style

Hi ,before to switch to C8000 I updated 10.12 and 10.14 firmware. After that I switched to C8000 and I updated the to firmware 10.16 and everything is working fine.
NOTE: I did this change ( form C7000 to C8000) becouse in the C7000 factory setting the soap opera effect is ON all the times , making impossible to watch tv.
If I was not able to make this change in the service menu I was going to return this TV.

Maybe he/you can post what he gets for the new 750 too, since it seems oddly high compared to the 550.

So who has 8000's in stock? I've had mine on pre-order since 3/4/10 and they still don't know when they're arriving. I see that Vann's has had some, but other online retailers are saying to pre-order. I got the really good pre-order price, but I am losing patience! Where are they, and when will Crutchfield have them?

That sucks, I'm sorry.
I noticed in the pic that you have an Xbox360. Once you get a working Samsung, could you give your thoughts on gaming on it?
Thanks

what are the odds that samsung installed IR emitters in the C6500 or (gasp!) C590?

Received my c7000 yesterday. It does buzz which is kind of annoying. My wife didnt realize it at first but once i mentioned it to her she cant stop hearing it also.... My ps3 broke a couple weeks ago so dont really have any impressions on the set. Should get one later this week or next. Do have a 360 but scared to play any games. LOL. : D Trying to break it in a little right now. The thin design does look freakin sweet through. Changed to a c8000 and it does bring up all the extra options mentioned previously. I like it so far but have to watch some blu-ray with the surround sound on to see if the buzz is a deal killer for me.
