I'm like a little kid in Christmas. Can't wait to get my new toy. Now just need to get a PS3 for blu rays and not sure about home theater yet.

Holy Crap You scored that for around $800 less than what I paid. You stole it! Run before they figure out what happened!

It's late, so it's possible i'm confused, but what exactly are you asking? How to make the Netflix app sound come from the speakers on the TV? Or make the Netflix app sound come from the speakers connected to your receiver? In the case of the later, if the 608 has digital optical, run a digital optical cable from the back of the set to the back of your receiver and bobs your uncle. There are other ways to do it, but I like the digital optical. Another avenue is hdmi 1.3 passthrough, but i'm not sure if the set will support hdmi 1.3 passthrough, but my receiver does not do it, so
How do you have the set hooked up to your receiver? I am using hdmi 1 on the set and have the digital optical tied to hdmi 1. Make sure you check that in the menu.

Yup I can't complain. I think I got a pretty good deal. I bet they will continue to drop in price, but I have been waiting for 3 years for flat panel tv and could not wait any more. I was going to buy a Samsung lcd LN55C650 for $100 less but thought this was better. I should be picking up Friday night. Just got my PS3 Move bundle today. Not big of a gamer but why bother with a regular blu ray when the PS3 rocks. Now, just need a home theater.
Wifey does not want to add big speakers so not sure what to get. I'm a big Onkyo fan as I have owned one since 1992 and never had any problems. Any recommendations on home theaters with small speakers? My budget will be less than $1000 for receiver and speakers.

I have my PS3 hooked up to this set and it is phenomenal. My family doesn't even go to the movie theater any more. Why would we (except for stuff like avatar, etc)? Don't have to worry about people talking, phones sounding, sticky seats......
I currently run definitive technology pro cinema 1000's for my fronts and surrounds and a pro center 2000 for the center channel. They are not tiny, but not gigantic either, and sound great. If you have a BB close, go to the magnolia section and ask them to demo some. I posted a pic so you can compare the size. I gave around $300 for a set of refurbed pro cinema 1000's on a very popular auction site and gave $200 for the center. If you threw some surrounds in, you might be close to your price range. Personally, and I know I will probably get run off the boards for this, I didn't think the set speakers were all that bad. Especially the voice enhancement feature. Any way, just my opinion. I know some people really like the mirage's and there are some others that seem to be good.

The Definitive speakers are very nice. I think you should check out the Martin Logan motions. They are also at the BB magnolia stores and Fry's.

Oh man, they had a pair of floor standers I wanted soooo bad but I couldn't swing the price and the boss said maybe in the future, lets just go with bookshelf for now-but get good ones. *i love my wife*. So I went with the DT for now, but will prob get ML later for music listening duties.

Current hookup is nothing but the HDMI cable from the 608 to hdmi 1 on the tv, i dont really want to have to run an optical cable through the wall.

Hey at least it was free! On the other hand, I would find out where they got it from and return it for store credit then get the tv you want or just sell it.

This TV does not support ARC via HDMI so you will need an optical cable.

Well, first, let me state that I hate you for having passthrough. Now that that's out of the way, I gotta second what Qenex said, so no soup for you. However, it sounds pretty damn good with digital optical.

Also, this TV supposedly has the artificial sharpening/enhancement that can't be defeated (same problem as the PK750), but someone posted here saying they don't have this issue. CNET said this TV has it and another review said the same thing.

Anyone? I can't confirm whether or not this TV has this problem.

Hi Qenex,

How can you check it?
BTW, I received my replacement!!! PERFECT! No damage, no dead pixel at all.
It also ran firmware upgrade automatically when I pressed NetCast button from 3.00.04 to 4.00.00, then to 5.00.00, but not to 5.02.00 or 5.00.02.
Is it some beta firmware that you downloaded from somewhere?

Just set-up my new 950. I have been trying for hours to get picture quality.
connected to DTV with HDMI and the picture looks like I am swimming through water. Big time moire effect and color is a little off also.

Any suggestions? Bad HDMI cable?

Tried component wire set-up same effect.

Suggestions?

I've looked through the manual and can't find anything that stands out. This set does have the edge enhancement feature, but I really haven't noticed it. Guess i'm just not that level of videophile yet.

Do the menu screens, OTA HD, or videos from the Internet look okay? Did you try different hdmi inputs on the tv?

Is it the moire you can see because of reflection filtering? It can be seen the easiest when there is no picture on screen. Or, it is some problem because of some source issue (either the connected device, HDMI cable, disc, etc.). I haven't seen anything like this on mine, not even with wireless transfer from external unit LG AN-WL100.
I notice algorithm of dithering is active in picture if I watch it closer than advised, but I think it is normal. However, I don't know whether I can turn it off or not.

You need to plug in the usb wi-fi adapter and use the onscreen menu to enter your network settings (encryption, ssid, etc.)

How is this set for sports/motion blur? Every display at BB or Fry's has a loop on or have that LG auto features slideshow go on over what is playing - I assumme that features overlay makes the picture worse.

Thanks

1
MENU Select Customer Support.
2
ENTER Select Software Update.
3
ENTER
Select Check Update Version to check
the newest version.
When selecting “Software Update-On”
- If the TV is connected to the internet
and it finds a software update on the
LG server, the update popup menu will
appear automatically.
- If the updated digital software information
is transmitted, the update popup
menu will appear automatically

The set updated as soon as the wifi was detected. It does say 5.02
Contact LG via email about what FW is the latest, they respond almost immediately. Can you check what month your build date was?

Since getting my 60PK950 a couple of months ago, I've watched a good amount of football and baseball both OTA and via cable, and haven't noticed any motion blur other than what comes free with HD compression. And that's not really blur, it's macroblocking.

Thanks a bunch. I'm used to the usual compression issues depending upon the broadcaster. It's frustrating because the retailers can't/won't just put up a local HD feed (and there are no small dealers in my area) so you can get a real-life test.

Just received and had my 50PK950 mounted this past weekend--- and I am quite happy with the set. Able to stream movies from my Mac via DLNA and PS3 media server, and overall PQ is great.

Thanks for all the great info in this thread!

My random question: Any chance we'll see Plex support that was announced for 2011 models in a future firmware/software update? Does LG do that sort of thing?

Hard to tell. I spoke with LG support about adding Pandora support to our 950's and the tech said prob not since it is already offered on the blu-ray players.
However, since Plex seems to be so prevalent in LG's future (at least according to their website) one would hope they would at least offer a firmware update. At the end of the day, it's all down to WIIFM? What's In It For Me(Them)?

Hey guys I just received my pk950 but i have a few questions:

1)What are the first things i should do? I heard just leave the tv on at low contrast and low brightness?

2)When I was watching tv when there was like a guy with a striped shirt, when he moved, his shirt would flicker... is this normal?

3)I have the denon avr 591 and I wondering if anyone has used the Audio return channel to output audio over hdmi? Currently I'm having problems using hdmi to output sound to my av receiver.

4)How do you update to the newest firmware? Just plug in ethernet and it will autoupdate?

5)Should i use the DVD that comes with the tv?

I think it best initially, but mainly not to have a stationary picture on for very long.
2)When I was watching tv when there was like a guy with a striped shirt, when he moved, his shirt would flicker... is this normal?
Dunno about that
3)I have the denon avr 591 and I wondering if anyone has used the Audio return channel to output audio over hdmi? Currently I'm having problems using hdmi to output sound to my av receiver.
This TV does not support ARC
4)How do you update to the newest firmware? Just plug in ethernet and it will autoupdate?
Yes
5)Should i use the DVD that comes with the tv?

I think it has the detailed manual which shows you all functions of the TV
