Also I noticed in a lot of scenes there is a dark/ghost burn in line going through them. This happens about a quarter inch from the top of the screen and I mostly notice it during scenes with white backgrounds, this bothers me more then the pixel. I really wanna love this set and I'm already addicted to the internet apps. and the size. I don't wan't to pull it off the wall and return it to BB. But I'm thinking maybe I should and wait for the D series???
Unless the 2011 Samsung Blu-ray players have been announced, and/or there is a newer firmware update for previous-gen Samsung Blu-ray players that has it--IIRC they don't have the Yahoo app. For some (many?) folks this may be no big deal, but keep in mind that the Yahoo app allows you to access Amazon VOD, for those interested in another VOD source.

I can't say for sure whether or not it does, but the BR that came with the set looked and functioned identical to the TV itself. It also had regular firmware updates, so I'm assuming anything on one is getting put to the others.
Honestly there's better options out there for this sort of thing though...boxee box, apple tv, ion htpc, etc. The samsung software seemed rudimentary and just awfully designed, but it's cheap and it works.
Would there be any issue with using an extension cord on the power cord?
The power cord on the TV is not that long (sorry, don't have the exact measurement) I'm thinking of moving around some components, and I don't think the TV power cord will reach.
I currently don't use the ferrite cores. If one was to use an extension cord, would the ferrite cores go where the TV cord joins the extension cord, or where the extension cored is plugged into the power supply?

The BR app interface does look identical, but there are differences in app availability. Samsung has a list here . There's also a PDF on the site somewhere, but I can't find it now.
I agree that other options have better UIs. But you can't beat the convenience of having it built in to the TV...

Good to know. Yeah, its definitely convenient, but not something I'd ever consider keeping a TV with a dead pixel for, or even really as much of a selling point. It'll be obsolete and stop being updated long before the TV has become useless.

I dont know what Beach Camera is, but one would think they would know who the carrier would be. As far as contacting you for delivery, in my case the carrier contacted me to arrange the date and time for delivery.
I bought the PN58C8000 3 weeks ago and for the last 2 weeks I am noticing the blink issue. At first I though it was only while watching Netflix, but I see it on the ATT UVerse cable box as well.
I love the TV and part of me want to keep it and deal with it, but it is getting very annoying. I wish there was a fix by Samsung to take care of it, but it does not seems to be. Back it goes to Amazon and I will wait for the D series or Panasonic and hope for the best.
I am sure there are enough of us with this issue and I am surprised that Samsung will not recognize the issue or provide a permanent fix.
Does anyone notice an extension of the score bar at the bottom of any sports broadcast as a kind of error? I notice it just sometimes and usually in front of lighter backgrounds. I see it sometimes extended out from the on-screen menu on the plasma too.

This is normal with plasmas and it is called "line bleed". You will notice it here and there, but very rarely during normal viewing.

Thanks!
It is my understanding that retrofitting firmware is not possible; once you upgrade you are not able to go back.
I have had my 58C8000 for 6 months and I've noticed on white backround's with movement I get these horrible purple lines. It is getting worse the longer I've had the set. Any idea what may causing before I call samsung?
It wouldn't make any difference anyway. The new models are around the corner. There's no need to accept that kind of ******** with such an expensive purchase. Return it.

Ok this is my second post in the forum and first in this thread. I took forever deciding which HDTV to get. Hell I started out with wanting the UN55B8000. Yest I know that was 2009 model but thats how long I have been dealing with this issue. After a year or more it was findly time and of course it took another 2 months even then. So FEB 6 2011 I pulled the trigger and ordered the PN58C8000 from Electronic Expo (Authorized internet dealer) and waited on it to arrive. I had taken many notes from surfing this forum and to be honest I was a little worried. Well the TV arrived 8 days later in perfect condition. The delivery company used was MANNA. They emailed and call every step of the the way including 1 hour prior to scheduled delivery even though they arrived 20 min early. I was still making preps in my family room so I had it placed in the living room. (yes I opened it and checked for cracks and any obvious damage, none found). I have since placed the TV in the family room currently on the pedestal that was already attached. (I will be mounting on the wall in a week or so). Now that you have herd all my babbling here we go....
PN58C8000
FW: 1032 I will update to 1035 soon
Build date: Dec 2010
No buzzing I say again no Buzzing (believe me I would say if it did)
I have it hook up as follows
Verizon FiOS HDR by Motorola (to AVR)
AVR: Denon 2311CI 1.4 with ARC (to TV HDMI port 2 which is the only one that support ARC)
speakers: 5.1 Front Energy; front cb-20, center CC-10, surround cr-10, sub esw-c10, (front hight cb-5 not set up yet)
note: the speaker on the TV is more that adequate when I don't want to us AVR.
PS3 (to HDMI to AVR)
All cables came from Monoprice "High speed" best price in town hands down.
Picture is amazing!!! I have played with the settings a little (waiting on 200 hundred hours or so) but after that game on. Besides out of the box again amazing!!! The 3D looks better that I expected. I have a PS3 slim which I hoped would do this set justice and to its reputation bingo no issues... WOW
Very very happy. When playing blue ray the picture is nothing less that perfect. I cant wait to do my tweaking.
As for 2D the regular channels look ok but the HD one's look spectacular. I have not used the 2D to 3D as of yet. In the end I am more than satisfied with the purchase. NO buyers remorse here. The price I paid was let me say a lot less that it is currently being sold for. (a lot lot lot lot less). So if you are still on the fense, take the plunge the water is fine...
I have a workaround for the MIL bug for Harmony One users. The instructions below assume you are using the Cal-Day setting. If you are using a different one, you may need different combination of Left and Right to get to Movie and then back. The idea is to learn Raw commands from the Samsung remote to quickly toggle modes, and then add them to the Watch TV activity to make the fix automatic every time.
Plug your Harmony remote into your computer with the USB cable and launch the software, and have your Samsung remote handy.
Go to your TV config under Devices in the Logitech software, and click on Learn IR.
Scroll to the bottom and enter a command name to replace the MyNewCommand text (I used "MIL-1"), and click on Learn New Command.
On your Samsung remote, click Tools (any button really). You have to learn a regular command in order to replace it with a Raw command.
When you get back to the IR list, click on "Custom" in the lower right of the window.
Click on the Learn Raw button next to your new command.
On your Samsung remote, click "Tools, Down, Left" relatively quickly.
Repeat steps 3-7, except name it "MIL-2" or something, and the button sequence in step 7 should be "Left, Right, Ok"
Now go to your "Watch TV" activity, click on Settings, click on Review settings, and then choose "Yes, but I want to add more control..."
Click through the setup until you get to Custom Actions, and then add an action for your Samsung TV.
Choose Send this infrared Command: an choose your first MIL sequence.
Add another action and choose your second MIL sequence.
Regarding breaking into two sequences, I was having trouble getting it to recognize past 5 button clicks on the Raw learning mode, so I had to break it into two parts.
Every time you activate this activity, it will toggle to Movie mode and then back to Cal-Day quickly (or whatever setting you are using). For me, the bug doesn't show up every time I turn on my TV unless I was playing PS-3 or something else, but it certainly doesn't hurt anything to run through the sequence each time anyway. Also, this way I don't need to think about it it's just automatic now. You can obviously add this to any activity you want.
If you don't want it to be automatic for the activity, you can customize the buttons in your Watch TV activity, go to additional buttons, and then add a sequence of "MIL-1" then "MIL-2" and name it Fix Blacks or whatever. I like the automatic way because it passes the wife test, and she appreciated that I did that for her.
Also, to speed things up in general, I have my Logitech delays on the TV set to 5800 ms for power on delay (saves 2.2 seconds over the default on startup), and 0 ms for inter-key delay.
Have you tried firmware 1035? A couple people on the settings thread ( page 48 ) are saying that the new firmware fixes the MIL bug. (i.e. If you use CAL-Day/Night you don't have to switch to movie mode and back to fix the blacks.)

I have not updated yet. Still waiting to see if anybody reports that something bad happens. In THIS post in this thread, Raddle said that the firmware update didn't fix it. So that's one vote yes and one vote no. I hope others report back in with more yes answers! If it's fixed, that'd probably convince me to update.

Hey Erickson - just had a tech out today, who replaced my main board. As i am typing this, i just saw a blink (honest)! Now I am going to update the firmware to 1035 (probably useless) to see if that helps. Although I have the same Motorola Box (DCX3400) we have seen the issue with our Wii and our Samsung 3D BD Player as well. And, like you, i have replaced our new Pioneer AVR twice, including upgrading to a different model with a completely different HDMI Chipset ($$$$). Gonna watch some tv after dinner and see if the blinks continue, then I will be placing another warranty call to Samsung (I will do this continually until the warranty runs out and they will probably spend a lot more covering the warranty work with the local dealer than i spent on the tv).
Samsung is coming back out next week to replace the panel. It's the last thing they can replace. Hopefully if this doesn't fix it, they let me switch to a 2011 model. I really hope they don't play the "It must be your cable box, AVR, HDMI cables, blah blah blah" game with me.

Best of Luck Erickson! I just placed my online service request for them (tried living with the blink for more than a week, but it is driving us all nuts still). I haven't noticed any reduction in the frequency of the blinks since the new board and the 1035 firmware update (about four in three hours last night).
I will keep you posted and please do the same!
