A perfect Panasonic plasma television would have zero idling mll black level and a fix on the rising blacks issue. This probably won't happen in the 2011 models but what do u guys think?

Unless Panny puts in solid processing, what is the point?

Do you mean "good image processing" or some technology i have never heard of called "solid processing". Confused.
Thanks!

About the buzzing, by what I understand, you seem to say that the buzzing we hear come from the panel itself.

I can tell you that the buzzing come from the electronics. Maybe a tiny bit from the panel but mainly from the electronic boards. It's not loud but it's there...

I was watching hockey and since the image is pretty bright, it's clearly buzzing from behind the tv and I can hear the buzzing coming from the electronic boards through the hundreds of holes in the back cover.

As for your advice, yes, I should sit back and enjoy the picture quality. It is really good for sure.

I've tried two LED tvs (sharp quattron and pana d2) and it is no where near the uniformity and black level of the G25. Just to reinforce my love of plasmas. Specially that G25...

You're right, it is a great TV but I would be so curious to hear your 9G Kuro buzzing sound... I'm pretty it's a lot less than the G25 since you seem to enjoy yours and be able to pass over the fact that it is buzzing.

Thanks again for your comments.

Even though I don't have a Plasma, I do own a Panasonic HDTV (tube CRT) that is about 9 years old, and it too has buzzing coming from the back, but only when the image is very bright. I noticed it right away with the TV. But I do believe that over the years it has got less noticeable....or maybe I have just got more use to it, but I still do hear it from time to time. I was told the sound is caused by a High Voltage transformer in the TV. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but it "sounds" like the Plasmas are doing the same thing when the image is bright.
I was looking to get the Panasonic 42G25 from Amazon ($790), since no one locally sells it (just the 42S2), as it's less than the Sharp Quattron 40LE820 ($990).

But with CES only 2 weeks away, I may wait and see what new models come out and what their features are.

Here's a peek of the upcoming 2011 Panasonic TH-L42G3 (42" IPS Backlit LED LCD TV) that will be sold in Japan next year. It's actually kinda handsome compared to most current and past models, and may be an indication that Panasonic just might be improving their TV's aesthetics for 2011.

It looks nice. I like the gray lettering.
It is very similar to the subdued lettering on my 657UY.
The 500/600M have a very nice logo as well that is silver and below the clear bezel.

Hi! Great thread!

Would any of you buy a new Kuro (some are available) or wait for a Panasonic - if 3D wasn't a factor?

I have never seen a KURO but read about them for years. Never could afford one. KURO models are available and I know nothing about which models are good or bad except the refernces to a 9G supposedly GOOD and a 5080 masybe not so black/blacks?:

I don't need a tuner because I am on DISH satellite.

NEW PIONEER ELITE 50" KURO PRO101FD $3000

Used 50" Kuro PDP-5020FD with 2 more years of Geek Squad Protection from Best Buy - same price $3000

Gently Used Pioneer Elite KURO PRO-101FD 50" Plasma purchase 01/2010, under warranty maybe? Has original B.O.S.

USED Pioneer KRP-500M 50" Kuro Plasma w/ Stand + Speakers $1800 + 350 shipping

Can anyone offer any suggestions? Are these any good? Worth getting?

THANKS!

Ben

please only facts.

it's up to LG, Samsung, and Panasonic what we learn.

there are no rules what they decide to tell us at CES 2011.

so what you have said has a good chance of being wrong.

Well this depends on how much disposable income you have. The new 101FD is the best of those options (although note it is a monitor and has no tuner so you'll need an external tuner, cable box, etc.. with the proper connections to hook it up).

If you're short on cash, a Samsung 7000/8000 in 58"+ varieties will get you a big size for considerably less and will still have good blacks as long as you don't watch in pitch black. With a lamp behind, should be pretty black even w/lights out.

Soooooo.... if it's your only tv purchase for quite a while get the Pio. If you plan on upgrading in a couple years, get a Sammy with 3-D.

Looks like a Samsung. If I wanted Samsung, I would've gotten it. They should've stuck with their classic look.

Some may think this is nitpicking, but why not just totally square off those corners? Also does anyone know what is on the bottom of this TV? Hopefully it's nothing that sticks out.

The 101 is soooo very nice!!!

101FD and 500M are the best TVs ever made. You couldn't go wrong with either...the caveat on the 500M is *how* used. If it's only, say, 2000 hours and hasn't been abused (burn-in), I'd say it's still a smoking deal for what you're getting. 5020FD is also very good, but not at the pricepoint. I sold one for a grand and am regretting it!

Yeah, I saw that one listed on Engadget a few days ago:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/19/p...video-to-sdxc/
http://translate.google.com/translat.../g3/index.html
http://translate.google.com/translat...n101217-3.html
Also an X3 line:
http://translate.google.com/translat...n101217-2.html
http://translate.google.com/translat.../x3/index.html
And C3 line:
http://translate.google.com/translat.../c3/index.html

But nothing yet about newer D, V, and VT models.

Please tell me that gradation from gray to light gray is a specular highlight and not a paint job...
When I first saw photos of the G25 and S2 I thought the highlight at the bottom was caused by reflected light then I saw one in person and to my dismay it was painted on!
Am I the only one who prefers the old clean black bezel Pioneer used to use?

they are not the best TV's ever made.... there the best 50" TV made.... because we all know.... size really does mater.

I would say the 151fd is the best TV ever made by far versus the 50 inchers.

Silly me, I thought this was a Panasonic 2011 thread, and here we are talking about old Kuros. All those prices are a total rip-off except for the used 500M, although the $350 shipping is a rip-off.

I would agree in general on this point. If you can buy a C8000 Samsung or Panasonic VT25 in the 58"+ variety for the same or less as the 50" kuros, I would just go with that. The 60" kuros are still worth it if you want something fairly huge and don't plan on upgrading in a while, but it depends how much more you're paying for them.

If it'll cost 2x-3x a comparable or larger display, you could just get one set now and then another in a couple years when there's a display on the market that comes close/matches a kuro.

I don't understand why you people seem to be annoyed by this. Its expected.

Its up to panasonic to make a true successor to the kuro and people want to know if they should wait for a 2011 panny or buy a kuro. Plus does panny not have the kuro patent? By that reason alone the conversation isalways going to be about the kuro also. Its impossible not to talk about it in panny threads. Its basically apart of it.

Like i said to another person, you guys just have to deal with it. Its going to talked about for a long long time.

The target audience for those Apple products is 1000 times bigger then these Panasonic TVs so trying to find leaked information on Apple products is a huge effort by some people...so they can be the 'first" to offer new information....then they get arrested Why can't you wait until CES?? Why don't you try and do some digging and get the leaked information for us and then you can get arrested ????

Its up to panasonic to make a true successor to the kuro and people want to know if they should wait for a 2011 panny or buy a kuro. Plus does panny not have the kuro patent? By that reason alone the conversation isalways going to be about the kuro also. Its impossible not to talk about it in panny threads. Its basically apart of it.

Like i said to another person, you guys just have to deal with it. Its going to talked about for a long long time.

At the snail pace Panasonic moves at, Samsung will have made large Super AMOLED displays first.
