It's too bad you have to go through some much work on the Panasonics. Samsung has the decency of making the IR Scrolling infinite, which is very useful. Once a week I'll set the auto power-off to 60 minutes and let the bars run and then it shuts itself off. Simple maintenance! Panasonic should copy that functionality.

He details the four main causes for IR/Burn-In (Phosphorescence, Residual Charge, MGO Sputtering, and Phosphor Aging). For each cause he explains the fix. He ends by saying that "plasma displays use dynamic brightness control, so full white screen or scrolling white bar should not aggressively age your display".
