Just received our new Panasonic P54G25 plasma and after mounting it to the wall and watching it for 1 hour, it went to sleep (energy saver preference). Came back in, plugged in an HDMI cable, and now 7 red blinking lights. That's right, $1500 for 1 hour of tv use!

Any advice on bringing it back to life or a definition of 7 red blinking lights?

Thanks!

Return it back to the store and get another one. Don't fix something that supposed to be new!

Agreed 100%. Unacceptable.

Why let facts or common sense get in the way of your opinions.

There's nothing you can do to bring it back to life, other than having it reincarnated as a new replacement unit.

Hi Randy, very odd post seeing as this was my first post on this site! Very childish, not appreciated. I joined this community because it looked like a community of knowledgeable adults, not lying teenagers.

For others, I have sent in a request for a new replacement. Bought through amazon and everything seems to be great customer service wise (other than waiting another week for a new TV). Does anyone know what went wrong? I'm worried it might have been when I plugged in the HDMI cable, but why would that cause a problem? Seems very odd and would like to know what could have caused the problem so I don't have more problems with the new one on the way.

And just for the record, I love plasma tvs and have 2 older panasonic models that have worked flawlessly for the past 2 1/2 years.

It could have been a short from the other device (though this seems unlikely if your other device didn't get blown up also).

Make sure you are using a decent surge protector in case it was a surge.

Aside from that, could have just been bad luck and you got a lemon.

Sony 32" EX400 calibrated settings

Panasonic 50" S60 calibrated settings

HTPC/Sony S5100 to Sony HT-CT150 to Panasonic 55" VT60, Sony 32" EX400, Panasonic 50" S60

Don't worry, people like him are in the vast minority.

I doubt it was caused by plugging in an HDMI cable, from my experience HDMI cables and ports are hot-swappable without issues. I suppose there could've been an issue if there was a static charge on the connector for whatever reason, but you'd have noticed a spark/shock when it touched the port.

I'd assume it was just a lemon and something gave out.

Umm, Randy is a highly respected member of this community. Check his post. He's quoting "tehguru", not "stirfry2112."

Pretty sure he realized that. Don't think he was referring to Randy when he mentioned the "teenagers" thing....

It happens here quite a bit. Posts get deleted, and if Randy didn't quote the post he was referring to, it would have appeared he was referencing you.

I try to quote on every post I make, so that it minimizes any misunderstanding.

That which may be known of God is evident within man, for God has shown it to them, so that they are without excuse. (Romans 1:19-20)

Once again, nice catch Randy. It looks like they deleted his post. It's amazing the responses I see in the tv forums that I don't see in the other forums. Some people can get a little extreme here.

As far as your tv goes just take it back for an exchange and you should be fine. I've had solid performance from my panny now for over a year and hear this is unusual but like anything with electronics, it can happen.

Most people jump to conclusions and do not use the scientific method.

It's to bad this world is geared for the average person.

Hah hah - I actually thought your comments were being directed at "tehguru" and that you were agreeing with me - it didn't dawn on me that it was directed at me since i had quoted "tehguru" in my response.

But thank you for thinking my avatar picture makes me look like a teenager !! (i'm turning 54 in a few weeks)

Randy makes an excellent point. There are a few members floating around here that find every make and model unacceptable, and wouldn't recommend anything. Some of these members are the same folks that you see posting a ton of threads about returning 10+ different hdtvs, driving some retail store nuts, because they cannot be satisfied.

It is actually quite a problem, and I am sure it does not end with TV sets alone.

Floating blacks are way overblown on the VT25 sets, not even an issue on custom and THX mode. I have never heard any plasma buzz, I think some people have sensitive hearing. Panasonic has a defective power supply issue on new sets, exchange your set for a new one and you should be set.

Better it happened at the one hour mark than after one year and one hour. Good luck with your new G25, they have a nice picture.

Mine broke after 45 days, couldn't return to store. Waited 7 weeks for a backordered power supply never came in. Panasonic replaced with a new GT model. I had a loaner throughout. Can't say nothing bad about Panasonic customer service.
