This is a monster thread that is just about impossible to read all the way through. But I just want to add that I took successful (more on that later) delivery of a PN59D8000 last week Tuesday. I was only able to watch it for a day before a business trip. But I watched a lot of TV this weekend.
So far I am more than pleased with the set. I have made just a few adjustments (movie/cell light/contrast/brightness/sharpness/etc) in the calibration thread. Have not done the 10pt adjustments.
What is most impressive to me is how incredibly relaxing the picture is. It doesn't have the eye-popping brightness of LED/LCD sets that tires me out. The surface appears non-existent to me and makes it seem like I am just watching a terrific image inside the bezel. Signals so far are TimeWarner via Samsung DVR, over the air HD (we have been having TWC problems), and regular DVDs via HDMI. Watched just a bit of Netflix to make sure it worked.
My TV buzzes a bit. Wish it didn't. I can hear it from 6 ft. away if the volume is low. But since this seems to be common, I have no intention of trying for another panel.
This is the 2nd PN59D8000 I have received. The first, bought through Amazon Prime yet Pauls TV inventory, arrived, with multiple cracks in the panel in spite of an undamaged box. Amazon refunded in two hours and said they were not able to sell this set due to too many problems with how they were shipping it. We bought again through Amazon but this time through Huppins/Onecall who shipped it strapped to a pallet with a shock sensor. Very good delivery via Yellow Freight.
Next is a wall mount. Then 10 pt.
