Historically, Samsung (and Panasonic) use M8 size screws. Check the depth of your TV's threaded inserts to make sure the screws aren't too long that they puncture something inside the TV.

And when it comes time to wall mount the TV - don't over-tighten the screws; they only need to be snugged down firmly. If you crank them you could damage the TV's chassis and/or pull the insert out of the frame. It's happened to a few others here.

sorry, bit off topic. i ended up with an extra samsung 2011 3d starter kit. as mentioned a few posts ago, it comes with 2 pairs of bluetooth 3d specs (ssg-3100gb), shrek 1-3 3d version blu-ray, and vouchers (submit online or by mail) for 3d version blu-ray of shrek 4 and megamind. brand new, unopened, and factory sealed. if anyone is interested in purchasing (significantly discounted), send me a pm. i believe it retails around 500 (which seems overpriced). thanks.

you've probably already tried, but just in case...did you try pairing the bluetooth items with the glasses/qwerty remote within inches of the tv? i had read in other threads that the items wouldn't pair if you aren't close enough to the set. i paired both of mine right next to the tv...actually didn't try from a distance. hope you get this figured out.

I apologize for cutting into the discussion. I have a few questions about Samsung plasma tvs. What is the lifespan on the Samsung PN51D8000 vs Samsung LED? Reason I ask is now I can upgrade to a 51 inch plasma being that the tv itself is smaller in height and width, compared to 50 inch LG models, thanks to the new smaller bezel. This will fit perfectly in my custom built in, which sits over the fireplace. I currently have a Samsung LN46A650 lcd which is a 2008 model. I am sure this will definitely be an excellent upgrade over my lcd, but I read somewhere that lcd and led's have a longer lifespan. Is this why plasma's are cheaper than led's? How are the black levels on this tv?

Why would Samsung go with a gaudy, tacky looking "spider" type thing that looks like it came from the Lost in Space TV show?

I originally thought it looked bad too in pictures but I actually like it now. It really does look better than I thought it would. But lol about the Lost in Space reference. I am not mounting either so I was worried. I preferred the titan base of the 7000 but now it's not so bad. I think it looks sleeker in person and not so cheap like it appeared in photos.

If anyone wants to sell me their tacky spider base (for a 64d8000; not sure if they are different sizes), shoot me a PM. I want to try painting the base to make it look better. I would even write a DIY for other forum members!

Hah! I was thinking of doing the same thing but not sure where to put my tv which the stand is off being worked on and not sure what color scheme would look best... Hell, anythings better than chrome though. And I'm a lot less bothered than a lot of these people by it. Yeah it's ugly but eh, whatever.

Nicely put, T-1000... Skynet's making it's first appearance, I hope John Connor isn't slacking off somewhere.

Yeah it is ugly but if I ever do end up painting it, I think I'll try to find a matte gunmetal color or something... I dunno, I'm gonna have to be really bored one day to do this though. Biggest obstacle: A 58" wide, $3400 87lb panel when my wingspan is only about 66" and I live alone does not sound like a fun afternoon.

Seriously, I would make a DIY thread with pictures and everything. You would be helping the community out!

Must be some dealer specific deals going on I guess. Pretty random whether people are getting glasses, vouchers, or 3d starter kits. I bought from Best Buy and they have NO IDEA what even comes in the box.

BB in Chicago and surrounding areas all have the starter kits. I wouldn't buy the set without the free kit. The voucher for two more pairs of glasses that some say is in the box apparently does not include pdp units. Some are saying it's just the LED or certain LED models that have that voucher. One person took a picture of the voucher and posted it.

Yeah and I bought it a week and a half ago. A whole month to get a dang TV?! I wish somebody had actually done something wrong so I'd have a person to yell at or be pissed at but it's nobody's fault... booo.

you're probably getting the 3d starter kit. a lot of retailers are bundling that with the higher-end 2011 sets (both led/lcd and plasmas). i think people here were wondering if you get an additional 2 pairs (separate from the starter kit) via a voucher in the tv box, as was the case with the unxxd8000 sets.

when you placed your order, was it a pre-order, or did they promise that it was in stock with a certain delivery date? if it was the latter, then something stinks about this. if it was the former, then i guess there's not much that you can do about it. i hope you get your tv soon (if not from bb).

Oh yeah it was definitely a pre-order which I was completely fine with, the guy even said "I can't guarantee a date because all the system shows me is that they are on their way in so the best I can guess is a few weeks out." It's nobodys fault like I said and nobody is to blame. I bought it on March 24 and over a month to see the fruits of my $4k+ purchase is too much of a wait for me.

But I too will be receiving the 3D starter kit cuz I cancelled my order with BB and am ordering through Cleveland Plasma! ...I'll also be saving $700, gaining a year of warranty, and getting my TV WEEKS before BB could've gotten it to me. What a great day!

Those are nice but I'm looking at monoprice ranges. Hard to justify $200 premium. Or I'm missing something?

None that I've seen, but don't hold me to that.

Do we have any measurements for the black level of the 59/65'' models yet?
