So just to make sure, you have tried hdmi to pass video and toslink to pass audio and you still had sync issues???? This plasma is going to the store... not only pops issues, but now sync issues...

Got my 59D550 delivered today to replace my Panasonic TH-50PX6U. Updated the firmware and am currently doing panel break in. Will hack it to the D7000 calibration settings when the 100hr mark passes.

No I am serious, I have the problem on mp4 too and also on divx, 400ms out of sync... Toslink doesn't change anything.

Fortunately, I watch many 1080p 24P who are fine.

I just watch weekly wrestling in mp4, so I demux it and remux it out of sync 400ms ( out of sync on the computer ), but the sync fine on the Sammy this way...

In fact, it's a mixed HDMI bug between Sammy and some mediaplayers, incredible thing... http://forum.xtreamer.net/topic/1401...mi-connection/

I have a popbox V8, no bug with this one

So that's very cool, with this set, you MUST try you mediaplayer on it before buying the mediaplayer to be sure to have a sync audio, completely annoying

Thank you,

At the sadly but I did return 59" glory... I just couldn't justfify spenidng over $1k on unifinished product. Since the TV is mostly for my kids I might be going either with Sammy 51D440 (720P plasma I had before kids broke it) or go with Sammy 1080P 46D550 LCD 1080P 60hz... Due this weekends specials LCD would cost me $200 more... I've had 720P plasma for 5 weeks and I haven't noticed any "pops" before it got broken, also I didn't know about the issue. My son threw a plastic toy at it, and it cracked very easly.. another reason for getting LCD... Beside losing on size, I would be losing on viewing angles as well... But at least no pops, IRs and other plasma issues... It is a hard choice I'll see what Costco has to offer and I'll go for there... now according to you it is a Sammy HDMI issue, so I wonder if I'll have the same issue with their plasma or LCD I buy... ?

It's russian roulette, no issue with my previous PS50B550.

I miss this one, better blacks than D550, no HDMI issue, it was perfect.

I sold it for the +1" thing, my mistake...

Does this plasma come with break in slides or pictures? or do i need to use a USB drive?

Like is their a white screen that I can play off and on for the first 100-200 to break it in?

basically is there some sort of self break in feature

i downloaded the evangelo slides. it it truly necessary to do this these days? more then just to make me feel better about it

Also, should I play Xbox in PC or Game Mode??

Anyone measured the MLL / black level of a 59D550?

Cant find any values in this thread and i just found some tests or comparision between 51d8000 to 64d8000 (Chad's review/comparision on high def junkies) but not D550.

Is it like with D7000 and D8000, where with bigger panel size the black level and pictury quality is improved?

The mll of the 51" models are too high for me (my pana 46s10 has also 0,07-0,08cd/m² - measured with my dtp94b), because i want better blacks in comparision to my old Panasonic plasma tv. My parents own a 59D7000 - because i chose it - and the blacks and picture is really nice. So i want to know if the blacks are identical with the 59D550.

I can order a new 59D550 for 1124 euro (incl shipping) until sunday. So i hope someone can help me.

Hey all

Are franks calibration settings best? I watch alot of sports, hockey and football and tv shows, Xbox as well.Watching game now and ice seems like a real off white colour.

What are the optimal picture settings for the pn59d550.

Thanks

I copied and pasted most of the video settings that I saw in here
and when I tested them out on the TV it seems like lots of people on the screen had a weird sort of orange colored skin
Has that happened to other people
I have only been using the TV for a few hours

The picture on this set is great but i can't take the glare anymore. I have to keep all blinds closed and all lights off all the time and i can't live like this for a tv. I have contacted amazon to return. Has anyone dealt with amazon for returns?? How long does it usually take???

Yeah, it's that bad. Glare is not as bad once the set is on. If I'm sitting at an angle opposite of a light or window I can see it reflecting. Looks like a smoky mirror when it's off. The picture quality is awesome... if it weren't the glare. Mine had a buzzing sound when I first got it but it went away. I spoke with an amazon customer service rep and they offered me $100 off to keep it, so i'm going to. After discount total price is $638 = great deal. For the price I haven't seen a better picture. Even $3000 samsung led doesn't look as good IMO.

Mine is on the wall and the tilt helps a little but there a re a few spots in the room where you get the glare bad. We have the slim sanus tilt mount. We have a small room so mounting locations were limited. Our fireplace is inoperable so we went cliche. A few flubbs with the install but I can live with it.

I have a question re. audio output. If I connect a hard-drive with a mkv encoded with DTS, and try to output sound from the TV to my receiver via Toslink optical cable, will I be able to get DTS sound? Or will the TV only output stereo ? Thanks.

+1

This TV glare is the worse that I have ever seen. I have 2 panasonic TVs: 2005 and 2011 65" ST30, and their glare is no where near samsung's glare. when my samsung 59D550 is off, its screen is like a mirror.

mine also has buzzing sound. I can hear it from 4 feet away. samsung buzzing is worse than my panasonic 65ST30 and as loud as my 6 year-old 42" panasonic.

it is a keeper since I got a very good deal. its picture quality is awesome out of the box. I did not expect much since this is the entry level of samsung 3D TVs but it rivals my pansonic 65ST30 in picture quality.

There are those of us (myself included) who have very disturbing, very noticeable, very glaringly blatant brightness pops in the picture. I have described this before as if you had two settings presets that you could instantly swap between with no on screen display by pushing a toggle button.... and one setting was significantly brighter than the other. Hit the swap button... brightness jump... hit it again and jump back. That is the issue that people have who call it unacceptable.

The other is a very slight adjustment in the dark areas of the picture that occasionally happen even though all auto settings are shut off in the menu. Some people see this in their sets and think this minor fluctuation is what the rest of us are complaining about. Some people may be, but most of us with this problem are referring to the first problem above, not this one. This one I could live with. The first one I can not.

Unless you have a set and are experiencing the first issue, you do not know what many of us are complaining about.

I just got this TV and seem to have the brightness popping problem described above in the first scenario. I tried watching hockey and basketball last night and it happened at least 20 times, sometime as often as 3 or 4 times in a minute span. When the camera had the whole court/rink in view, it was as if someone was standing right next to the cameraman taking pictures with a flash and it was coming through to my entire screen. It was very noticeable and unfortunately something I cannot live with. I'm not sure if I will try another one to see if the problem goes away, or just go with the Panasonic ST30 now. Anybody else notice this on hockey or basketball games?

Do you have all Eco settings turned off? If using standard preset this will happen for sure because it's using the Eco sensor.

Just got this TV and it does buzz pretty loud, if I am standing 15 feet away at the same height it is audible when muted. Sitting down on my couch i can barely hear it. Is that normal for this TV?

I have all eco settings turned off. I have read some opinions where people think it is cameras flashing from the crowd, I plan to watch a game tonight my vizio lcd next to it to (split the cable line) see if its an issue on both. Either way, it does seem to have a pretty loud buzz and if it keeps up over a week I'm going to be exchanging it for another set. BTW mine is a 59".

I believe those "pops" you are seeing while watching hockey are professional photography flashes. Watching replays from different angles has these pops in the same frame.
