@Bacc

Wheres the link to slingbox settings? please

In my non professional opinion you do NOT want to run slide sin Movie or Warm 2 Mode.
I like to assume that Standard Mode is the mode that is the LEAST altered from the true colors itself. Hence I use Standard for slides.

Movie and Warm 1-2 is what most here use to calibrate and play on. I do too

I go ahead and use Contrast 100 , Cell 20 , Color 75 and cool. Its D-Nice break in settings. The point is to break it in quicker and being Standard Makes Red the truest Red it can be. Movie mode slightly alters the colors on screen. Not in a bad way but I think Standard is best because again its the truest version of Red,Blue,Green to break in.

then calibrate in Movie/Warm mode

and again, I only run these slides 3 hours a night and have had the TV a week. I also use the scroller for 30 minutes. I have played Games with a HUD for 6 hours straight and watched Nickelodeon with logo with my kd for like 5 hours saturday. Not a hint of IR.

Hi Guys!

Gonna plan to purchase later today, but right now, I'm still torn between 2 models, the PS51D550 and another of Samsung's 3D LedTV, the 46D6600 or 40D6400.

I'm kinda torn apart since I've been reading reviews that PS51D550 is not ideal for 3D movies and gaming since it can't do 120hz above which is needed for 3D, D550 also seems to be not as bright as the LED counterparts.

So my questions are:
1. Is 3D decent with the PS51D550 compared to the other 2 models?
2. Will the D550 produce smooth playback similar to the LEDs above?
3. Is the 480hz (D6600) or 120hz (D6400) noticeable compared to 60hz of the D550?
4. Which would be better how HD viewing and Gaming (PS3 and PC)

Thanks a lot guys! I'm hoping someone can answer me so I can order one right now

Please allow someone else to answer the question since your obviously not reading it.

Again, the original question:

@ Lance:

Here is a link to the Samsung FAQ that I found:
http://samsungplasmatvfaq.com/index....mage_retention

It references Slingbox's settings but here is a link to that too:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...9#post11571739
It's the 8th post down on the page.

Granted this is for a different model TV but if Samsung is referencing it I give it credence. Turning up the settings makes me leery based on the above. Theoretically it makes sense but some confirmation would be very helpful.

Why is it that there is no recommended set of parameters for breaking plasmas in?

bacc. Dnice settings show 100 cont 75 color n cool. I use standard for slides. Best true colors.

Sling theorys are old school but good guide bout image retention. Again i dont run slides more then 3-4 hours a day so 100 contrast is 100% fine.

i also play games hours straight too. Plasmas are alot better then 2007

Also, hdmi cable doesnt matter monster or monoprice. Ferrite cores take care of the noise and its all a digital signal. Especially for short cables

I just got an ad email from monoprice today on those hdmi cables... yes, cable doesnt really matter, digital is digital! But a ferrite core helps! Typically that and sheilding is the only difference in hdmi cables!

Also guys fyi this set is 2,000,000:1 not 200,000:1 contrast. Samsung clarified. Once 10pt unlock its on par with 7000 cept black level but i came fron dlp 20k contrast. I think the sets blacks are amazing

Thanks Lance; that's some more info to put in the cranial bank. Do you have a link to the Dnice settings so I can check it out thoroughly? I didn't realize that Sling's theorys are outdated; that's why I wish there was one standard to go by that is easy to find on the AVS forums. I do know all about the hdmi cable price scam. I got two of them from Time Warner but will prob order some from Monoprice when I put the whole system together as I'm going to need speaker wire too.

Dnice settings are in the official panasonic settings thread. First post has break in slides and color settings.

Also monoprice has great speaker wire. I got 150 ft 12 gauge speaker wire for under 50. Monster charges 60 for 50' 16 gauge

But use scroller and slides often to be safe and break in. It only helps. Again i dont do for mire rhen 3 hours

Im not sure its really worth unlocking the 10 point unless you have the calibration tools needed to make use of it. My LN46C630 has them, and I tried copying anothers result, and it made it worse. No two are alike, and each needs their own settings. There is no harm in trying someone elses settings, but the results wont be the same. Thats why Im not sure Im going to bother with it since I dont have anything to do a proper calibration.

According to that, plasma works better then LCD with 3D. Plus you will get a much better 2D picture with the plasma.

CTM, Im skeptical about doing 10 pt w/out tools too but MOST people on here say the settings of Cue and others posted make their set look ALOT better. But could be placebo :P

Ill do it around 300~ hour mark

Hello everyone. Ive been up and down this forum and all i can find are the calibration settings for the 10pt unlock. I do not want to do the unlock just yet since my PN51D550 is only a month old. Once my warranty is expired then i will do the 10pt unlock(Don't want to void the warranty) . Do any of you have any recommended calibration settings w/o the unlock.

As others here have said it is different from one TV to the next, even if same model. I can tell you that I googled PN51D550 calibration/color settings and I found many. I placed all those into a spreadsheet and computed average settings. I used those as a starting point, here you go...

Picture Mode = Movie <-- ALWAYS!
Cell Light = 16
Contrast = 87
Brightness = 61
Sharpness = 4
Tint G = 48
Tint R = 52
Black Tone = OFF
Dyn. Contrast = OFF
Gamma = 0
RGB Mode = OFF
Color Space = Auto

White Balance Settings:
RO = 25
GO = 25
BO = 23
RG = 24
GG = 24
BG = 27

I did something very similar for mine. I took the settings from cnet, avs, and a few from tweak my tv and came up with the average for a few settings. And then used 2 calibration discs I downloaded, along with some that I just went on personal preference and these are my final settings after a thorough break in period.

Picture Mode: Standard

Cell: 16

Cont: 85

Bright: 60

Sharp: 50

Color: 50

Tint: 50/50

(Advanced)

Blk Tone: OFF

Dyn Cont: OFF

Gamma: 0

RGB: OFF

Col Space: Auto

Wht Balance: Default 25

Flesh Tone: 0

Edge Enh: OFF

Mot Light: OFF

(PICTURE OPTIONS)

Color Tone: Standard (Dont like Warm 2)

DNF: OFF

MPEG: OFF

Film Mode: OFF

HDMI Level: Normal (If not greyed out)

Normally Ill spend a few hours to days trying to calibrate mine by eye (usually 3-4 TVs and a few more monitors a year) before I start watching anything. Just got this in today, and didnt mess with anything. Its far better then my LN46C630 and Panny LCDs, leagues better then my projector (though smaller). The 3D effect in Super Stardust HD and Avatar were amazing, GT5 not so much.

Does the buzzing go away with break in?

Because I just had my 59D550 delivered today and it sounds like a power line is running through my house.

I did the 1025 FW (Australia) update a few days back and the blacks seemed very grey.

I recalibrated using a S&M bluray and had to change all my settings significantly. The result is an improvement to blacks over the previous 1024 FW.

Very happy with the result.

Dave.

Mine was very loud the first night too. Ive been running slides for 24 hours straight now, and it still buzzes, but not nearly as loud. Ive been sitting in the room with it doing work the last few hours while the slides were going, and couldnt hear it unless I tried to.
