Yeah, perhaps region code. Yes, Philippines. Another confusing thing with the models here is the suffix, some are PS51D550C1R while others C1N. But I guess it's the same panel. Not a single firmware posted in the site for the C1N, though the version is quite advanced (1020).

Varying suffix in the US usually means different retailer. There usually isn't anything of note to distinguish the display model numbers from each other, but it gives the retailers the option of saying "no" to price matching. "It's not the same model number, so it's not the same item. Why would we price match two different items, Mr. Customer?"

I see. Thanks for that info.

For those who've tried playing 1080p/24Hz BD concert in a PS3, I have a question... This morning it played fine on my D550 at 1080p/24Hz. I turned it off and left for lunch, and when I turned returned to resume, it started from the last memory but now in 1080i/60Hz. I've tried many things but it doesn't play anymore at 1080p. I've tried turning it off and on again, changing HDMI cables (w/c works well at 1080p w/ material using a media player), and also changing BD disks (w/c did play 1080p too), and bringing the original disk back, but the disk still played 1080i. I've triple checked my PS3 and it has 24Hz ON. What could be the culprit?

One thing to note, when I bring it back to the Top Menu of PS3, it switches to 1080p, but when I select any chapter/song, it switches back to 1080i.

In the VIDEO SETTINGS make sure that the 1080p is checked for the kind of TV you are hooked up to. Sounds like only 1080i is checked and that is what it is reverting to. Maybe.

You need something that will accept digital optical in, preferably with Dolby 5.1 support. This means either a receiver or a fancier headphone amp to convert optical to heaphone out for you. I would look at products designed for the 360 myself. I'm sure someone made a DD5.1-over-optical to headphone amp at some point. Turtle Beach and Astro are pretty good places to start looking.

Like this from Astro.

Thanks. I did think of checking VIDEO SETTINGS too in PS3, but didn't see an option for resolution, only the option for BD 24Hz. I'll re-check. Just wondering why it was working at 1080p the whole morning but 1080i only when I resumed, though the Top Menu showed as 1080p/24Hz.

I have an RCA red and white converter, is that of any help? I tried plugging it in but it did not seem to get any sound

Those digital converters are expensive!

"I have an RCA red and white converter"

Explain further what this means. I have no idea what your item is converting to and from, as you did not describe such functions.

Got mine last week... LOVE it! Strange, he asked for some pictures and I only saw a handful here? Thought everyone had a camera nowadays.

I have the Samsung PN59D550

2. What convinced you to purchase this particular "Model".
Brand name and price of this model. I have 3 other Samsung TV's in the house.

3. What you like best about your Plasma.
The picture quality is absolutely amazing, once I figured out you had to watch HD shows, not the standard ones.

4. What you don't like about your Plasma.
Nothing not to like!

5. What "Feature(s)" you wish your Plasma had.
Has everything I want!

6. What advice or suggestion would you make to the "Manufacture" about your Plasma.
Samsung hit a home run with this one!

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your Plasma.
How the 3D worked! Fantastic!

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your Plasma.
Once I figured out the menu, nothing.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.
In my case, yes! I got mine for $999 with two 3D glasses.

I always get the last years model because I save so much money and it's still brand new. When this first came out, it was almost $2,000. I paid $999 and got two free 3D glasses.

I love my Plasma! I was disappointed at first as it didn't seem anywhere as sharp as I saw at Best Buy. Problem was two things, once I put it in movie mode, that helped a bunch, then since I never bothered to watch the HD stations before, just the regular ones, so DUH! when I tried the first HD station to see, it was like "WOW" what a difference! Night and Day. Then I tried the 3D and that was a double "Wow".
I then tweaked the menu some to improve it more yet. Didn't need much improving in the first place.
OK, here are some pics:

So I have a red and white male RCA plug that goes into the TV, that turns into a headphone/audio jack...is there anyway to use my headphones with this (so far hasn't worked) without getting a digital to analog converter?

After receiving my USB drive from Samsung, I noticed something funny about the install.

I plugged my USB, and did the update. After the update was complete, I noticed that in the firmware still says 1019 and not 1019.5

Although, it does say I have 2011/12/02 1019 does that mean I have the latest version ? - 1019.5 ?

I also decided to download the file that has been posted onto media fire and noticed that everything in the contents of that file directly mirrors the contents on the USB drive that samsung sent me.

Thoughts ?

Thanks

There is no analog output on the display for you to use this with. You could get a $30 optical to analog L/R adapter to use your cable with, but that would only work with stereo sources. The result would be no/broken sound on any HD channel that spits out a Dolby 5.1 signal.

Can anyone point me to the official Samsung changelog for the latest firmware, if there is such a thing?

I have updated to the latest version and I feel like black levels have improved slightly, ie: no more fuzzy pixels moving around on black backgrounds. I have also not noticed any significant brightness pops, but then I've only been watching fullscreen content since the upgrade. I noticed brightness pops before even with fullsceren content so I feel like this has improved as well.

There's still the problem of always-on dynamic contrast (see my previous post for a video example), but that's not very noticeable when watching fullscreen content.

Overall I feel like this latest firmware version solved all of the major problems I had with this set. I'm still curious about the changelog and I'd like to read it, I'd be grateful if anyone could provide it. Thanks!

I just bought a PN51D550 yesterday, "upgrade" from a 42" Panasonic plasma. While the picture is much brighter and pops more than my Panasonic, the picture is also sometimes blurry. Particularly which display skin. Objects may be clear and sharp, but the faces have a fussy, washed out look to them. Is there anything I can do?

Note: I calibrated the TV with a very detailed HDTV calibration bluray on my PS3.

Appears there's no composite Audio out for this unit. What exactly is this 'mini-jack' called to purchase.... where can I get one? Wonder why they replaced the previous composite output.

Actually, it seems that the latest is version 1019.5 for the D550.

EDIT: See http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...3#post21549403

Larry

Where did the above version 1019.5 come from??? I would think that Samsung would have the latest on their support page which is: 1018.1
I'm Leary of using the wrong one elsewhere... My Plasma is the PN59D550C1FXZA

HEY! Thanks for the FAST response!!!
I don't have any issues with my Plasma. Will they still send me the update if I ask for it without any issues? What number did you call? The one on the support page? Did you see any improvements with the 1019.5 firmware?

I just did the online chat. I prefer that because u can print the entire chat after. I noticed slightly better blacks. U could try telling them u have brightness popping issues. That's what I did and then I specifically asked for 1019.5. They sent it to me on a USB stick. Took a couple weeks. Not all the brightness pops went away but it was a huge improvement.

"So I have a red and white male RCA plug that goes into the TV, that turns into a headphone/audio jack"

You're actually going to need wireless headphones as you cannot get power from an RCA connection. When something has a "headphone jack" it sends the audio signal with power to power your headphones. No power comes out of the red and white analog audio outs. Since wireless headphones use batteries this is a non-issue for them.

You could try again. I've heard of agents not knowing. I know the tech told me there is a seperAte dept that handles it and I was transferred. Some guys have tries again and got an agent to send out the FW. I read a few pages back that some guys even bought new units with 1019 already installed.

I think some people on here might have up loaded it.

Visitor: I repeat, the listed firmware is NOT the latest. I know many are using the 1019.5 why are they getting it from Samsung via mail and not the website then?
Visitor: They said you sent it via mail on a USB stick
Visitor: Is that 1019.5 firmware for a fix only?
Maxwell : I am sorry, I have checked with all the resources and I see that 1018.1 is the latest firmware for PN59D550C1FXA model TV.
Visitor: OK, your wrong and no help either... goodby

Here is my chat. Doubt this helps though:

Mathew M: It is not recommended to update the firmware without any issues.

I think that is the key... that firmware is for correcting issues.
I don't have any issues.

Maybe installing that version 1019.5 would mess up my system?

I'm confused. I replaced my 42" Panasonic plasma with the Samsung 51" and when watch cable (VerizonFIOS HD 1080i) the picture quality doesn't seem as good.

Now I don't know if this is because the TV isn't as good, or if it's the opposite. That the TV is so much better than my Panasonic and I am now able to see more detail in the HD picture and faults in the picture are more noticeable.

I have calibrated the settings to this...

Picture preset: Movie
Cell light 18
Contrast 90
Brightness: 52
Sharpness: 15
Tint: G50/G50
Black Tone Off
Dynamic Contrast Off
Gamma 0
Colour Space Auto
Flesh Tone 0
Edge enhancement Off
Motion lighting Off
Color tone Warm2
Digital Noise Filter Off
MPEG Noise Filter Off
Digital Noise Filter Off
HDMI Black level Low
Film mode Off
Size Screen Fit
R-Offset 26
G-Offset 24
B-Offset 26
R-Gain 30
G-Gain 20
B-Gain 29

And I think the picture is as good as it can get. But it just really bugs me that the HD picture while watching TV doesn't look as good.

Any advice?

Guys no need to sweet talk the tech support.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...3#post21538723

That user got the 1019 on a USB stick by doing the same- chatting up tech support.
He was kind enough to share it with us all.

I and a few others have downloaded this and upgraded without any issues.
