I may not have one just yet (waiting to see what deals come out in the coming months on Amazon) but I will keep this first post updated with any relevant info and picture settings that are solid starting points for self calibration of your personal units once they are made.

So owners, share some pictures, settings, stories, and any flaws you find, lets get the discussion flowing.

I got the 51" a few days ago. I like it alot. I upgraded from a panasonic tcp42x1 (720p).

The picture is nice. Last night the wife and I threw on avatar and we both felt the picture was lacking somewhat compared to what we were used to seeing with the previous tv. I adjusted some of the settings and felt better about it.

Tonight I am going to put the tv's side by side just to see if it was my mind playing tricks or what.

The one main concern I ave is the glare. The panny was great at stopping it. You read a lot about glare issues but my living room has the windows behind the tv. It was never an issue before so I didn't really even consider it when I bought it.

When my wifes pc is on I can see her monitor perfectly in the middle of the tv, plus with her lamp on her desk it makes it really hard to watch something.

This is the only problem I have and may return it because of it. But I don't see any bundles with the panasonic tv's so the price of tv and glasses puts me way over budget.

My .02

Also I must add that the tv itself is beautiful. I really like the look over the panasonics.

Glad to see this thread has finally popped up, should be great once we get some users of the tv sharing all their settings and findings with it.

I've had the 59D550 for just over a week now, it replaced a faulty 58C550 and I'm extremely happy with it.

Blacks seem better than the C550 as does the color and "pop" of the picture.

I haven't got any 3D glasses so I can't comment on the 3D performance.

I wish the remote lit up.

The glare is much worse than the C550, I can control all the light in the room pretty good, but even in a near dark room I can still see glare.

NO BUZZ! I noticed buzz from my C550 the second I plugged it in and sat down to watch tv, very noticeable. I don't notice this tv running unless I stand next to it and put my ear near the back of the panel.

I bought the 59" last night. I need to do some more settings tweaking, but overall I'm very satisfied with it. I haven't seen it during the daytime yet, so I'm not sure how bad the glare will be.

Interested to hear everyone's settings...

Here's a few pics I grabbed, i'm no professional photographer and these were taken with a simple point and shoot camera...

directly to the right of the tv is a big array of 5 windows, this was taken midday with all the blinds/curtains open.

a few of the actual picture

I can try and get some better pictures if anybody is interested.

Lol at that first pic with Wolverine. Pretty distracting. So it seems like I'm not the only one noticing the glare. Surprising that its worse then the C550. Cheaper AR coating this time around?

lol...to be fair though, that picture was exposed to show everything as well as possible....i don't find it near as distracting as that particular pic shows.

Bingo.

Last year they were trying to mimic the gloss LCD look and now it seems they are going even farther in that direction. (My 50c450 is highly reflective, but also holds it's blacks very well in the sunlight, better than any other plasma I have owned.)

don't know anything about that, was just on direct tv...so whatever they broadcast it at.

this tv also does a good job of holding its blacks even with the glossy screen. the picture above isn't a good indication of the tv's actual picture because i was trying to expose for the whole room.

just watched about 30 min of shrek 2 in 3d on my D550, thought it was pretty good in terms of quality. It was the first time trying 3d (other than in the theater, which didn't really work for me).

I have a break in dvd running over night, and have the wife on strick on bars or logo rules.

After about a week and a half, I have that WOW break in br.

.....

Anyone with a logitec remote finding the D550? if not, what are similar device are you using? I don't think they have the update with the d550 out yet.

Glare is bad with this TV. But no floating blacks, but I swear my eyes caught some color adjustments (flickering? brightness changes?) during a couple of scenes of "The Social Network" (watching in completely dark room).

to ^^^^:

I have a c450 and it seems to have a brightness control or brightness limiter thing that flickers on/off occasionally....this is not to be confused with the "power off" feature during all-black scenes where the screen will seemingly shut off for a split second....The brightness control thing usually happens during darker scenes...but try playing with your settings more...My c450 is at a point where I can't even notice it....I think what may have helped was upping my gamma to +1 and lowering my overall brightness 4-6 clicks.

As for the screens, the good thing with the high gloss screen is that you will get more pop and vivid colors vs. a screen with a lower gloss or a stronger AR filter.........Samsung plasmas have seemingly been praised for having a very good amount of pop and depth of color for the past few years now, but if this years screen is even glossier, it could very well mean even more improvement in that area....scary

Yah a couple people have said this, I noticed it too when I was watching something, can't remember what it was.

I had to learn a couple of the IR to get some of the stuff to work but all doesn't.
Probably my biggest frustration with this TV is not having direct buttons to the inputs instead of having to scroll through the inputs and them not all showing up all the time. The logitech trys to do it but since the list changes depending on what is turned on it rarely gets it right.

I've noticed the same thing and thought it was my eyes playing a trick the first couple times.

i received my 59" D550 on saturday and really like it - my previous TV was a samsung 46" LCD. The picture improvement is very noticable. I have turned the contrast down from 95 but at 50 it was giving me a headache watching so its up to 60.

watching for any signs of IR - and i havent seen anything yet. Any suggestions on settings (after a "breakin")

Funny how you read about plasmas and how some swear by breakin and others havent done anything and play video games with no issues whatsoever -

I am somewhere in the middle - turning down settings (not to 50 like recommended by some), not playing games and watching for logos and bars - but i also want to enjoy the TV and not be a freak about it.

Seems everyone used a higher contrast setting on the C550 line, all the settings i read people kept it between 80-100. This appears to be the same deal with the D550 line.

I placed an order for the 64 inch with Vanns, it was a tv+2 glasses bundle.

The tv should be here on the 28th and I will post pics and impressions.

I sold a 55LH90 to my sister so I could get a 3d tv, in the mean time I have been using my 50 inch plasma in the living room and no tv in the bedroom.

I am both excited about a significantly bigger 3d tv and because me and the gf will not have to watch the same thing due to having only one tv in the house.

I did grow to like Jersey Shore, Paully D is my boy.
