Finally broke down and bought a P51D7000. First HDtv, so new to all this calibration and break in stuff. I've tried to read through as much as I can on this (and other owners threads) and on the break in thread, but wow, just TMI for a guy who's been stuck in the 80's.
I read: 1) definitely break in with slides. 2) No, nonsense, these new plasmas don't need break in at all. 3) Just be careful the first 100-200hrs., and ALL KINDS OF VARIATIONS. Also what seems like a million different settings for calibrations.
What I'm hoping for is a P51D7000 setup for dummies!!
As far as break in, I want to be REASONABLY conservative, but not go nuts. I'd love to just jump in and start playing Madden on PS3, but figure thats probably not best. Also, only use a TV 4-5hrs a day at most, definitely don't want to go a month of "being careful" watching tv before I can use it how I want.
For calibration, unless changing settings is VERY simple and quick, I'm more of a "set it and leave it" kind of guy.
SO, thoughts on how I should proceed when it gets here on Friday afternoon?
(btw, won't have hd programming until Saturday morning, but have dvd player or PS3 blue-ray)
Run slides? Watch normally, run slides when not watching (is this OK, to leave it running at night or during the day when not home?)? Factory settings?, Set it one way for break in and then change it??
Anything KNOWLEDGABLE in a simple easy to apply format is appreciated.
