Greetings,

So many regular updates (I'm not complaining) just wondering how I can know/info on each update?
Case in point... This update is taking place now:

I suspect the updates have mainly to do with the on-line services. I use the online stuff mostly via my BD player, so I have just turned off software updates on the TV. I can get a new BD player for $100.. But I don't want to risk bricking my TV. And the pop-ups are annoying to dismiss, since I don't have my harmony programmed to do more than turn the TV on/off & change its input. I have to go digging in a sub-menu in my Harmony, or find the LG remote..

About the only reason I would want to update anything would be if they fixed mpeg2 playback in dlna and/or plex.

Interesting....

I am more concerned of bricking my BR player based on feedback in another thread.
Iveallowed all updates to my TV and it continues to perform outstanding!

The only difference I have noticed with the new 5.0 update is that now there is a BANNER AD in the home menu....... Wow LG. Sad. That's exactly what I want to see when I "update".

The info is on the LG website. If you click on the software update tab it tells you what the new firmware does.

Drewwho not sure what version you are on but the last update 04.03.03 said something about better DLNA performance. Not sure if that was for mpeg2 or not as I can not get my PC to work with the DLNA(both mine and my GF andriods work just fine). Hope that helps.

Gamma was a bit tricky so used Disney WOW HD for Brightness and Contrast.

Extremely happy with these settings. I just now need to know how to set Gamma and rest of Color settings to feel 100 percent complete. the way was described in colorscale for dummies set contrast too Dull for my taste.

If someone could tell me what their measured black levels are like after these exact settings, that would be awesome! I don't think they are crushed but others might differ.

Special thanks to thread user pz750 for inspiring me to do with his settings and for his great advice!

Peace

Wow, please just post one message on the same subject, and don't quote random other posts.

I believe film mode will be grayed out unless the source is 1080/24p. Check your BD / streamer / PC / etc settings and try changing the output format to 24Hz (23.9, etc).

I don't see anything that looks like a change log, just what (i thought) were some generic help search index terms.

The problem I had way-back-when was that when playing back MPEG2-PS files (eg, OTA recordings) via plex, fast-forward/rewind did not work. I think DLNA had the same issue, but the USB interface did not..

I bought a 60PZ950 earlier this year when they went on clearance. I haven't used the 3D functionality but wondering if it is worth it? If so, is there anywhere to still get the 3D glasses with version .64 so they don't cut off all the time?

So here is my story ... During a move from one city to another , I totally deystroyed the inner screen of my 50pz950 by allowing it to fall flat on it's face on a carpeted surface .. The tv made the move fine but when I finally got it in the house, out of fatigue or stupidity , I placed the tv up against the back of my black leather sofa .Forgetting it was there, I tilted the sofa back to place a rug under it, and crash goes my tv eek.gif ! I thought I got away without cracking the screen but after using a flashlight I could see the the outer glass was good but the inner screen was cracked like a mirror someone threw something at.

First thing in the morning I call LG and very simply they direct me to their nearest authorized repair center. Having no idea how much a repair like this would cost, I call the repair center and explain my problem. The technician after looking up my model told me that I needed a new screen and that total repairs would cost $550.00!! He told me tv would be like new after repairs and included a warranty but he did mention that for that price a few hundred more I could probably just get a new tv and to give it some thought. Now my tv being less than a year old and me being very happy with it never considered a new tv but now I was like what the hey, maybe I might find something I was missing.

So after about a week of shopping around and looking at new model plasmas, I finally found a deal I liked on a Panasonic 50ut50 3d tv for $699.99 at onecall.com. Best buy had the same model there for their sale price of $850.00 but they said they would match the price so I jumped on the deal ..

Now lemme say this, the Panasonic DOES have BETTER blacks, and a very nice picture right out of the box, but the picture on my LG was just as nice but it took some work which in turn made me appreciate it more. Honestly , that's where the good points on the Panasonic ended. The user menu felt very very cheap, so did the remote. The smart tv portion of the tv was not very intuitive and i was left stumped using some of the aps. One big thing, most tvs now use passive 3d not active like the pz950. Let me tell you, if you have experienced active 3d and go to passive, unless you are in denial you will notice a HUGE difference. I immidatley noticed the loss of resolution in 3d. The picture was brighter but why in the world would I prefer a brighter fuzzier picture ? The 3d did not cut it for me. The bezel of the tv was also cheap looking when compared to the LG. I probably could have spent a few hundred more and gotten a higher end Panasonic but mind you, I got my LG on super sale for only $799.00 so I was trying to stay within that price range and really see if I could get more bang for my buck.

After all that I finally decided it would be way worth it to me to repair my LG rather than replacing it. I was totally spoiled by LGs class, features, and options. I can first hand say that the LG pz950 is an EXCELLENT set and once you experience this level of performance from a tv set , you will not want to settle for less. Im watching my 950 as I type this now and could not be happier ... Btw if you get your tv repaired at a authorized center, your LG warranty will still continue and the technician was able to transfer my calibrated settings to the new screen so I did not have to pay for another calibration ! Like LG says life's good !

My mistake the ut50 sure was active 3d.. I had mixed it up with a Panasonic I sampled in the store before I got the ut50.. The ut50 uses active glasses that do not result in a significant dimming of the screen while in 3d , but compared to the pz950 I would prefer the slightly dim screen of the 950 rather than the slightly brighter and less crisp 3d picture of the ut50.

Really my intent on this post was not to compare LG and Panasonic but just to make the 950 owners aware of a lot of the features and options that this tv has that might be being taken for granted .. Things like the preset THX settings and 8 other preset picture modes , which may not be perfect but hit 8741 and adjust away .. The magic remote , having a quick menu and not having to access the main menu for everything , a smooth and consistent simplink feature, a swivel stand , more than one usb input, the option to label your inputs , I could go on .. After my experience of recently shopping around , I have seen that all these features wrapped up in one tv now will cost you $1700-2600 for a plasma.

Problem with color fluctuation and pixelation!!!!

Ok, I was really happy with my LG and I did have the AUSZLHR. It worked fine for me, no major buzzing/ pixelation/ or flickering however you won't to describe the problem that this board has. I was lucky and I didn't have it.

But one day when watching football, my tv just turned black. I could hear only the sound that's it. I called LG support and they sent out a tech. He had to order a new board. And guess what after a couple of weeks later, flickering like crazy. My plasma looks like sh*t!
This is not close to HD quality. Also besides that constant buzz when watching basketball/ football of the court or grass , now I noticed that the colors shift/ fluctuate for example when there is a wall in the movie/ cartoon. It shifts back and forth.

Has anybody achieved to get the older board 60PZ950-UA.AUSLLHR installed from the tech?!?

I have a LG 50PZ950 TV with several devices (blu-ray player, xbox360, and STB) connected to the different HDMI ports on the TV. I also have a very old (9+ years) Sony STR-K840P receiver connected to the TV via an optical audio cable. For some reason I cannot get the Dolby or DTS signal to stream and the audio sounds awful.

The only way I can get the Dolby or DTS signal detected is by connecting a separate optical audio cable from each of my devices to the back of the receiver. The receiver only has a single optical audio port so it's extremely annoying when I want to simply watch a blu-ray movie.

I checked all of the settings in the TV menu, but can't find anything! Am I missing a setting or something? Please help!

***PLEASE HELP***

I am desperately trying to locate 4 pair of AG-S250 active shutter Glasses for my PZ950, but I am seeing some ridiculously absurd price gauging for the remaining ones (the S350 are $40!!!) I'm able to find! So here is my questions:

1. Has ANYONE successfully used other models of 3D glasses with these TV's? Because I read where and individual who posted on LG forums in fact had great success using AG-F210 which I believe are passive, on their 60PZ950.

2. Any idea where I can find them for $50 or less??? Because I am NOT paying $90 and even $140 for them.
#frackthat

Thanks, Marcus

the person who used passive glasses on an LG plasma must have been blind in one eye to say he had success, they cannot work.

the only place I've seen the AG-S250 go for less than $90 is on ebay but prices will only go higher the longer you wait. also, seeing as that was the MSRP for the glasses when they were in production, not sure you can really call it price gouging...

This thread seems pretty quiet now, so I hope I can get a response.

I've had this LG 60PZ950 for almost 2 years now. I had no problems with it for the first year and a half. Then, all of a sudden, the picture started becoming very pixelated and blotchy. I've attached a still photo from that time. Before Voltage Adjustment.jpg 391k .jpg file The interference got progressively worse to the point where it was unwatchable. The TV store where I bought it (a small, private outfit) said that I needed a voltage adjustment. Rarely, as plasma screens age, they said the voltage can drift away from spec. So they took it in for a voltage adjustment the end of December and returned it the beginning of January. I didn't notice any further problems with it until a couple of weeks ago, when I started noticing the pixelation returning, particularly on a white background. I've attached a still photo (from the Xbox dashboard) depicting this. After Voltage Adjustment.jpg 719k .jpg file Of note, when I move the green background one panel below to cover the "Memory Unit" panel, the pixelation disappears. Brief, pixelating interference also occurs now while watching a hockey game with the bright, white background of the ice rink. (I can also attach before-and-after brief video clips if need be to further demonstrate these findings.) The TV is still watchable, but based on the last experience, it could get progressively worse again.

Is the store's explanation valid? Does it need another minor voltage tweaking? Or is this problem going to keep recurring over and over again, and should I push to have aggressive action taken, such as circuit board and/or panel replacement? I registered the TV with the credit card company that I used to pay it to extend the warranty by a year, so I have a full warranty for another two months and can get the cost of all parts reimbursed, plus I still have another two months on the manufacturer's warranty for the panel (plus another year's extension after that). Should I push for a complete gutting of the TV, or can I get away with just a minor voltage tweak again?

It's so frustrating. I've never had a TV go back to the shop for repair and have multiple, working CRT TV's in the basement that just became archaic. I had a big-screen rear projection TV for 9 years that never broke. This is my first flat-screen TV, and it's giving me problems. mad.gifmad.gifmad.gif

it's possible it could have drifted again I suppose, but if it continues to do it, you'll run out of wiggle room on the voltage adjustments. Since it's out of warranty now, why not check out the pot adjustment thread and try and fix it yourself? I'm afraid I can't remember the name of that thread, but the adjustment was very easy and improved PQ on a lot of people's sets.

Thanks for your reply. I still have another couple of months of full warranty (through credit card company) and panel warranty (manufacturer), so I'll let the store worry about it for now. I'm not very technically savvy when it comes to taking apart and fiddling with TV's.

I've attached brief QuickTime videos of before and after the voltage adjustment for further illumination of the problem. Before and After Voltage Adjustment Videos.zip 2791k .zip file

Dear fellow PZ950 users !

I would really appreciate your help / advice as LG Poland turned back on me when my 60PZ950 malfunctioned 2 months after the warranty period frown.gif
LG Poland is unable to offer me an on-site repair service or even diagnostics ! I have no means to transport this giant tv to their service point.

My TV has suddenly died after 2 years of operation (approx. 4-5 hours / day in ECO mode)

The symptoms are similar to what's described here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1330742/official-lg-xxpz950-owners-thread/270#post_20716633

After powering-up the tv the blue lights circle on the bottom right, but the picture never turns on.
No menus, volume displays, input displays. The green led on the board in the back of the tv is still glowing, and everything appears normal, just no picture at all - just some light grey backlight can be noticed...

Should I replace just the Z-SUS board or all 3 boards ( Z-SUS, Y-SUS and Y-CTRL) ? What board numbers to look for ?
Has anybody seen the LG service manual for this set ?

***Please Help***

Ok guys... So I've owned my pz950 for aprox 2yrs now (purchased new) and it had been absolutely outstanding!

This evening however, I noticed something I've never sern before which I initially thought was the feed or station I was watching: Net Geo HD. But I changed the channel and even tried some recorded DVR material (HR24 DirecTV)
It can only be described as a violet purpleish artifacting that kind of moves all over the screen. It does not take up the entire screen but it is at least10-20 in diameter as it moves/floats around. I am baffled... Literally today is the first time I've ever had any PQ issues.

Any and all input or suggestions are welcome...

- Marcus
