Over on HDJ one of the calibrators measured the VT30 at MLL of .0020. Pretty darn impressive. Anybody want to buy my 65vt25 yet..the upgrade bug is in full effect

I did type .002. We both have the same value...I just had a 0 after mine (.0020 you had .002.)

IF you want to be a stickler, they are not the same. 0.0020 is more precise than 0.002 as it implied that the instrument taking the reading may have a resolution of 0.0001 increments.

Yes, an 0.002 reading could actually be 0.002999999999 for all we know

Yes, that's true it does show more precision.

If whatever you're working with rounded 0.002999999 down to .002 that would be a broken rounding algorithm.

Does anybody know what the USB output can record through HDD/USB thumb drive when the TV is on? Can it record program coming from cable, satellite, DVD player, Blu-Ray player, OTA?

This is a great feature if it works.

That's list price (not a very good deal). You would do better with a 10% off Best Buy coupon (which I bet will be available for Memorial Day).

That's not Amazon unfortunately. Amazon are not going to be selling these for the vast majority of the year (barring perhaps brief EoL closeouts). Officially, Panasonic are disallowing internet sales on the VT in an attempt to control pricing, though a lot of places play in the gray area of the policy by shipping out "special orders" from their B&M locations, or are just unauthorized dealers that do not even get their inventory from Panasonic.

You're telling me that Amazon will not be carrying this TV the majority of the year?

Amazon direct will indeed not be carrying the VT30 (nor will any other authorized internet only retailer without a B&M to sidestep this policy). The third party market place sellers will (like Digital Plaza currently listing it), but not Amazon themselves. This is an official policy of Panasonic's designed to preserve dealer's margins, maintain the value of the brand/product, and control pricing. The VT25 was the same way last year, only appearing briefly through Amazon direct near it's EoL clearance IIRC. This is shame, because I'm not aware of any other internet retailers that offer free shipping (both ways), a no questions asked return policy, and free financing offers like Amazon direct.

I'm getting my vt30 on Saturday. It sounds like the break in period and pre-calibration, the best setting, out of the box is thx mode. Would that be accurate? Also, i heard you should only should keep it zoom picture mode to minimize letterbox bars and others say don't worry about. Any advice?

As of this afternoon, David Katzmaier has had 55VT30 in the lab for about an hour. The black level so far is 0.0062 fL. Higher than last years 2010's VT25.

Probably need to wait until it's broken in and calibrated to really get a feel for the displays performance. But it's good to have updates like this Keep 'em coming. Hopefully people can be patient and wait out the time for the panel to settle in before making any judgements. I'm curious to see what he says OOB broken-in measurements are.

Maybe the 'rise' is already pre-tripled in the 2011 models. So, 0.006 mll (fixed) would be better than an aged 2010 vt25. Just not a new vt25.
