Correcting typo, High Red should be 4, not -4. Minor improvement to White Balance, PDF updated as well.

I am not able to get an accurate Gamma with Panel Brightness set to Mid. That being said, here are the best settings I got for the Mid Panel Brightness setting. The test pattern gives 45 FL, compared to low 20's with the Low Panel Brightness. For some, the benefits of the brighter picture may offset the less accurate Gamma.

On the THX mode does anyone know if 50 is considered 0 on the sharpness ? I tried doing it by eye but I'm having a hard time

Excellent - good to see some settings for "Mid" panel brightness...about to pull the trigger on a 55" GT30 over the 55 Sony nx720 dynamic edge lit LED. The Sony may have inkier blacks in the daytime and more overall brightness, but viewing angles have me worried.

0 is the starting point for sharpness. You can download a free AVS709 disc here that will give you a test pattern for sharpness.

I have purchased my 60" gt30 and I am quite happy with the image quality and performance. One issue is that last night while running the slides I have noticed a stuck pixel visible on a red and white background.

I did not think that plasma suffered from this issue, but with my luck with televisions everything is possible. I am within the 30 days return policy. I will probably look for a replacement unit.

Did anybody here experienced the same thing?

Yes, this can happen to plasma and any brand. I was lucky my VT had no bad pixels but I did notice that the stores GT demo had one out like yours. Just exchange it out.

The store took back my gt30 and will be delivering the second one in a couple of days. They tried to sell me the crap of how one bad pixel is acceptable bla bla bla.......let's hope the next one is better.

While using mine i have noticed the following: on the ps3 dashboard, when highlightin a folder and pressing the triangle button would bring a menu and the whole ps3 dashboard would just be in the background. In that situation, some shadows in the background would flicker and create some sort of effect that i could best describe as noise. Did anybody experience this with their gt30?

I can't seem to find the thread with the D-Nice settings for the GT30 that everyone is referring to. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I got the replacement this morning. So far, it is an August build and i briefly tried the PS3 dashboard and the issue is not there.....it looks like I did get a lemon on the previous one.

I have my fingers crossed! Tonight I will look for dead pixels, or maybe not. Maybe I will just make sure I don't see anything wrong with normal content....I mean what is the point of knowing about things that you won't see in normal viewing? I also got 4 years PSP warranty.....at least it gives me some peace of mind!

This is what i'll do:

for 100-150 hours, I will just watch fullscreen content, HD, SD zoomed, and 1.85:1 aspect ratio movies. In Custom mode with Brightness at 45, Contrast at 50 and Color at 50.....all other staff off.

No videogames or channels with logos or static stuff on the screen.

After I will just enjoy the crap out of my tv!

Does anyone know why when I connect my NVIDIA GeForce 280 to this TV via HDMI or the PC-connector, I can't see the output in 1920x1080? I'm very upset that I can't seem to get this to work and any help would be greatly appreciated

Wow. These work great on my GT30. I wanted a nice alternate config besides THX to use for gaming and other media where I'd want the pixel orbiter set.

I tend to use the TV at night, with only a dim bit of bias lighting behind it to keep from getting eye strain. This looks amazing in that setting.

What I like about this especially is that skin tones look just about right. This will work, I think, until I can decide whether I want a professional to come out and adjust the set, but I'm planning to hold off on that decision until I have a good 500 or 600 hours on the set.

As always, thanks for taking the time to read whatever I've posted above this signature.

The PC Input is not capable of 1920*1080 according to info on page 58 in the manual. You should be careful about using a plasma for extended periods of time as a PC monitor, because the static images on the screen might cause image retention. I got PC image retention on an old LCD that way.

HDMI should work. I was able to mirror my 1920*1080 LCD computer monitor on my 50" GT30 successfully, and watched some content from www.CBS.com/. I used a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT video card, so you should be able to do that as well using the NVDIA Control Panel.

Note: My video card outputs VGA and DVI only, not HDMI, so I used a DVI to HDMI adapter to connect directly from my computer to the TV, and ran a digital audio connection from my computer to my AVR for sound.

Thanks. I'm currently using this and it looks good. However, the overall image is still a little too dark. Is the best thing to increase the panel brightness? Or the brightness setting?

Try increasing the Contrast setting. I have not seen much increase in brightness changing the Panel Brightness from Mid to High.

Quite frankly, I've used settings posted here and a few other sites. Never really cared for any of them. What I see in THX mode is more than pleasing to my eye.

My panel is wall mounted, the room receives light from 2 separate outside sources. I keep my mount tilted slightly downward, so reflection is not an issue. Viewing the TV during the day has never been a problem and with the slight downward title of the panel it's even more of a non-issue. Having it be THX certified is one of the main reasons why I purchased the GT30. I want to watch my TV, not spend countless hours screwing around with the settings. Just my $.02.

I would guess over 80%, based on measurements using small APL Windows and an entry level meter. The reason I started to play with custom calibration was that occasionally there seemed to be a very slight sense of green in more than one content source.

Enclosed are measurements of THX default and Custom.

I am very pleased with the 50GT30, have no FBr, and prefer a brighter MID panel brightness than the recommended LOW. To each his own........

EDIT - located in family room, normal light for day and night. Relocated a Panansonic 42PX600U to the bedroom, and it is STILL a fantastic tv!

What about black extension just above gamma ajustment in the pro settings ?
