You can install 2.2 over 2.1 with no issues, the luminance patch portion of 2.1 is retained.

Thanks for the quick reply

I Bought it of Amazon My areas best buy does not carry the gt30.
So I figured I would have a 50/50 shot of getting a august build but I didn't

Now the Panny customer service said it might take anywhere from a week to a month to get someone out to my house. I wish the Fix was available online but I guess Ill just run the slides until the Tech guy gets here

Did both the 2.1 then did the 2.2 firmware updates. The 2.1 update did the trick. Flesh tones are no longer too intense and look real while the rest of the picture also looks good.

Can someone either post stock/factorySM Offsets

R-DRV: ?
G-DRV: ?
B-DRV: ?
R-CUT: ?
G-CUT: ?
B-CUT: ?

Original values were stored in my computer and something went wrong. If stock/factory is not known because all panels are allegedly all "unique" then possibly more of a recommendation for these so I can adjust from there? Settings are currently F-d and I'm no NOOB at this. Just asking for a little assistance. Thanks in advance

Between the 2.1 firmware patch and Dave_O's mid panel settings not only does 2D look awesome, so does 3D. I was watching Toy Story 3 off my cable provider Comcast and the picture was amazing, I was completley immersed into the picture. I am so glad I bought this tv, and also glad that I am a member of this forum. Throughout the years, this forum has been invaluable to me when it comes to HT.

Play some SD content and then go into your sm offsets, they should be untouched, copy those settings down, and then play some hd content, and enter your sm offsets from your sd source into your hd source and you should be good to go, SD and HD offsets are the same, but when you change one, you dont change the other, so you should be safe there.

Applied the Custom 2.1 FW today. Measured THX and Custom low panel and high panel brightness on GT30 pre and post the 2.1 FW upgrade. No significant change to THX and low panel measurements. Mid panel brightness did change quite a bit, with the major change being that minimal Gamut Luminance errors now occurred at Color setting of 49 instead of 46. The WB settings also needed a re calibration. As stated before, no improvement to Gamma in Mid Panel brightness was noted.

So for for a noob, is it worth installing that update?

If you use THX mode, which is very good, I'd say no.

If you use custom mode with low panel brightness, I'd say no.

If you use custom mode with mid or high panel brightness, and will calibrate the set, I'd say yes.

Most folks who have applied the patch comment that the set looks significantly better. I firmly believe that measurements are just a baseline for video quality, and do not tell the full story. I cannot believe that very experienced calibrators and Panasonic video engineers would have worked this hard just to have the set look good at a color setting of 49 instead of 46

Thanks for the updated settings for the Luminance Patch. Just input your corrected version - watching the Georgia - LSU game & boosted the W/B LowG to +10 to make the Georgia Dome turf palatable! May revise once I've had an opportunity to view additional content. Nice work - much appreciated!

I did revert back to your 0 suggested setting - looks like CBS made some adjustment during the broadcast & the fairways & putting greens looked just right at 0 as well during the Chevron Invitational.

Recalibration for 3D

Is this normal?
THX contrast 60 brightness 50
THX 3D contrast 40 brightness 60

Both done at night viewing with DVE bluray

Do you guys use different calibration when watching 3D vs non 3D ?
Help guys! I'm bringing my GF tonight to check it out and want to impress her lol

Hi,

Wondering if someone could answer a few questions….

I have a GT30 set and ran the 100 hour panel prep. I also ran D-Nice’s calibration and applied his settings for the THX mode. I have had the set for about 2 months.

- If I apply this 2.1 firmware, will it make the THX picture better, worse or will it remain the same?
- Would I have to change any of the SM vales for the THX mode after this firmware is applied?
- Would I have to change any of the picture settings for the THX mode after this firmware is applied?
- Should I apply the 2.2 firmware after 2.1?

I do enjoy the THX picture for movies (2d/3d) but would like custom settings for sports. As it stands now, I cannot get the custom picture settings right for watching tv/sports. I find the THX mode a little dark for TV viewing.

Thanks in advance.

Viewing the TV during the day has never been a problem and with the slight downward title of the panel it's even more of a non-issue. Having it be THX certified is one of the main reasons why I purchased the GT30. I want to watch my TV, not spend countless hours screwing around with the settings. Just my $.02.

I agree. For viewing, I believe that what is acceptable for one person might not necessarily be good for another person. This is based primarily on what the person likes to see, and where the set is placed for viewing (light vs. dark areas). I plan to have my set calibrated by BB, which offers the service.

MID now has a more natural picture, yet still has pop -- which is missing in THX. I am very pleased with the changes!

With a bit of further analysis, it now seems that the 2.1 FW does improve THX mode in a way that may make it a perfect fit for folks without plans to calibrate. With past measurements on my set, trying to get more brightness in THX mode by moving the Contrast to 75 resulted in a degraded Gamma at high IRE. After FW 2.1, this is much less. It provides a 46FL measured (56 FL with D-Nice's correction).

I noticed changes in THX mode after 2.1, but at default settings they were not significant enough to mention.

For rooms with dim lighting, the Custom settings for Low panel brightness provide better results than THX, with lower light output that works well in those environments.

For folks wanting higher light output, using the 2.1 patch with THX Contrast at 75 and Color bumped down to 48 or 49 is a great option.

Gotchaa, based on your knowledge of the 2.1 FW does this make sense?

These Dave O settings are starting to grow on me. I threw them on for the football today and they look fantastic. I think I may use THX mode for movies and Dave O for live tv.

This is the best my 50GT30 has looked since I got it. Thks to Dave O for his tim and calibration reports/settings! I really enjoy college/pro football, and the colors are the best/most natural. And the 2.1 patch has eliminated the red/brown push (red faces). I still believe my 42PX600U is better, even at 720P. But at least the GT30 has gotten to an acceptable level.

I think Panasonic fell very short in 2011.....and maybe all plasma's - they seem to really be falling short. Compared to 4 years ago, price is down, but quality/performance seems to be as well. It seems they are want to "just get by".

Anyone hear about the Samsung 55" OLED announcement??

I downloaded the new 2.1 patch and did Daves mid pannel settings and this has given me the best picture I have ever seen on any TV I have ever owned. The only problem I am having is on my Xbox 360 for games like battlefield 3 the shadow detail is too dark along with the enemy's to the point I can not see anything. I have tried several settings and am about to pull my hair out, lol. Had to hook my Xbox back up to my LCD computer monitor to get my kd ratio back in the positives :-) . does anyone have any suggestions to brighten things up? I am using game mode btw.

Can't you adjust your gamma in game (not on the TV) in the display settings?
