Longtime lurker, first time poster. Hope this is ok to start this thread. Just picked up the 50PV400 at Costco and I saw there was no thread for the 50PV450 (which is pretty much the same TV as the costco model from what I gather). Just to kick things off: I'm not able to figure out if the intelligent light sensor thing is on or how to turn it off, if it is. Also, I can't get the energy saving mode to engage or disengage. I think perhaps the Costco model doesn't have this feature? Although, it is on the box and there's a button on the remote. Obviously, sharing settings would be great if anyone has some good ones. I saw that one guy posted his settings in an Amazon review. I'll cut and paste those over here if anyone is interested. I'm excited about this set, I think it will be pretty amazing after I crank up some of the settings (I'm babying it for the first 100 hours or so).
well so much for that theory on a different blu ray player. the line of pixels still appear, but only when watching stuff thru the blue ray player, anyone else seen this at all? im baffled why it only happens on that and not other things.
im starting to think maybe im just sitting to close or something and this is normal and i just see it more than others.

trying using a different HDMI cable in the same port. If it continues, try a different HDMI port
edit: saw you swapped cables before. did you try a different port?

And when a governerment agency mandates that new plasma sets must consume "X" watts or "X percent fewer watts" henceforth, when the technology cannot possibly accomodate it, you end up with compromises, such as fluctuating brightness, to keep their sets in "compliance" with average power consumption mandates. Rob from Peter to pay Paul. I nearly dropped a load of bricks in my drawers when I saw my new plasma consumed only 99 watts, when my previous ones consumed hundreds. Now we know how they pulled off this technological "marvel." It's not that the plasma manufactureres suddenly want to give us muddy whites and fluctuating brightness, but government interference has tied their hands. FB's and muddy whites aren't problems the manufacturers can "fix." They are problems created my big government, and only voters can fix them, at the polls. So the next time you choose a new TV, thank the government that, in the name of saving our planet, you have to choose between a washed out LED LCD TV, or a flickery, muddy plasma.
well people here figured out how to play with the pot levels in the back. Couldnt someone knowledgable here figure out a way around this? Not an expert, but maybe swapping a higher power supply?

I tried a different port. It's usually in hdmi 1 and I tried hdmi 3. The cables are mono price cables and the ones on now were still new in bag from a year ago. Only been in use 3 days. I have a Sony player I got around 2.5 years ago I think. Last night I tried my nephews newer Sony player and still had the line but not as much. I have played with 2 of the pots some and a blue nob on the back. Could any of those introduce this? My brother is coming up tonight and we are gonna mess with the pots again so I have another set of eyes to help me.

no expert, but im sure thats the reason. Try turning the pot level back a tiny bit and replay the scenes where the line happens until it goes away. Hopefully that cures it

Hi just joined AVS and just bought a 50pv400. Picking it up tonight as I had to borrow a friends Van. I didnt want to spend a fortune and just needed the basics. Reading this forum is what led me to my purchase. Thanks for all your input guys/girls.

Hi, I just picked up a 50PV400 today! It's currently sitting on the floor, with the break in color slides playing on it. This is my first HDTV, first plasma. (And its my first post on AVS) Excited to get it hooked up into my system, but I might as well break it in while I sleep, right?
I'm thinking about getting the pv400 and, was wondering what are the difference between the 400 and 450. Is it worth paying more for the 450. It will be my first plasma as well.

the 450 has a USB port for photos and music, the 400 has a USB port for service only. The 450 you can give the inputs different labels... "cable box", "computer", "DVD" etc.
Purely up to you to even run them. I never did. Never will in any plasma I own.
Most run them about 100 hours. Some 200. Some just run them night and day 4 days strait until its done. Others randomly use the every night when sleeping.
It's really up to you. Although there isn't any reason to really run slides anymore.
Have you posted your "post pot tuning" settings anywhere? I am going to mess around with the pots tonight and I would like to have a pretty good set of setting to evaluate it.
I am really impressed with the colors but not exactly blown away by the black levels...hopefully Set DN adjustment will help. Overall, no buyer's remorse at all, although I would not recommend this to anyone with windows near their TV location.

I still used BN settings as they are the best anyone can get. After pot tweaks. Run picture wizard. Then carry over the difference to BN settings. Which should be contrast and brightness. Those were the only things I've needed to change.

Only do the white pots. Dn and up. Don't do any blue pot. It's what messed up mine and introduced a pixel line in the middle. My brothe and I managed to get it back to normal last night but it took a while.

just picked up the 60pv400 from BB here in Canada! was on sale for 999.99 and i went to subway for lunch the day before and they were handing out 100.00 off tvs 699.99 and up! so picked her up for 899.99! couldnt be happier for that price! it has replaced an old sammy 58" 650 series!
First thing i did was open up the back of the tv and adjusted the pots, while running 1080p/60 content. also entered the calibrated settings posted on page 2 from blacknoir/dnice.
Couldnt be happier! and sold the old sammy for $800!
Yes it was the blue one on the middle board. A vs one. I wish I had never touched it. The set is back to 99% of normal though. I did see some corruption in the bottom left corner last night when I turned the set on but it didn't stay. Watched half of empire strikes back and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I do have a little light bleed on the same bottom left but I think that's been there since day 1
^^ good to hear you fixed it. Are the black levels that much better, enough to recommend doing? Also, Ive seen that same light bleed bottom left corner about 3 times but goes away once I catch a glimps of it. Thought I was just seeing things
Check out pages 9-11 and following pages for pot change info. I have not done this to my set as my black levels are almost as dark as the bezel. Don't want to screw up the fantastic PQ i got with Blacknoir's settings + minor tweaks to contrast & brightness.
