Online research says the Sammy has a better picture but is not has bright than the panny. They are about the same price. Thoughts one which is better or just a personal preference?

your statement is way off. panasonic plasmas offer superior black level performance vs sammy at the expense of brightness. sammy's this year produce amazing color with brighter screens and above average black levels.

Two very nice sets, both seemingly with a large number of happy owners.

OTOH, as you have done research, you will also know that each comes with at least the POSSIBILITY of one or more significant Glitches -

Might be wise to see which company - if either - resolves their problems first.

Or perhaps shop lower down on the price scale: likely to less disappointed in a glitchy-but-cheap set than in a glitchy-AND-Expensive one...

The D8000 series has been rated very close to the VT30 series for picture quality (CNET gave both a 9). The D7000 is pretty much the same thing as the D8000 minus a few features that don't affect PQ.

Samsung PN50C7000
Yamaha RX-V775WA
BIC Venturi DV64 Towers
BIC Venturi DV62 CLRs Center

Still building but sounds amazing so far

By Glitches, are you referring to the peeling on the Sammys or something else?

Peeling on the Samsung, also the (probably VERY Slight) possibility of a Self-Destructing panel.

Possible Bothersome Buzzing, and Fluctuating Brightness on both sets (the latter seems to be more likely on the Pan, but has been reported on both brands this year).

Reports of Gamma problems on the Pan GT - to extent that have read advice to choose the ST series instead - along with a handful of reports of Green Globs showing up on some of the Pan panels.

Again, it appears that MOST owners of either of these sets are very happy, even if some argue that they are content only in their ignorance. It can be difficult to judge the extent of some glitches - Have a Problem tends to be reported more often than Don't Have a Problem - and some people are bothered more by certain things more than others are.

Still, would advise more care in assuring an Excellent Return Policy as opposed to the Absolute Lowest Price when making a purchase decision. That is perhaps always a good approach, but seems even more apt at this time....

Well I pulled the trigger on the Sammy PN51D7000 from Amazon.

Should be here on Wednesday. Good price, no tax and free shipping. Counting the minutes.

And apparently a very good return policy - just in case...

Hope you enjoy your new set!

Check to see if your bezel is touching the screen in the corners or along the edges when you get it.

This might be why some screens are peeling.

If it is the issue, and you do have it touching you can slide a thickish manual page between them to see if you can pull it away from the screen just a smidge.

This is all just conjecture, but probably worth a look.
