I am going crazy trying to decide between 64d550 and 59d6500...I can purchase either one in the $1700 range. Don't really think I will be bothering with unlocking the 10pt calibration on 550.

I guess at this point the decision between larger size vs lower glare...

I also notice that the contrast ratio on 550 is 200,000:1 and on 650 is 5mil:1. Does that make a huge difference in black levels?

Please help...thanks

Just a Personal Opinion, but (& always assuming that Budget DOES matter....) if WITHIN 10 feet, would go for the better 60" set - OR, buy the less expensive one in 60" (59"...) and put the savings to good use elsewhere.

If beyond 10 feet, would opt for the larger screen size.

Thanks Dierkdr.

I am about 15ft away from the tv most of the time. Just curious how much worse is the bigger 550 compared to 6500..I dont think 5 inches is not going to make a huge difference to the viewing if 6500 is that much better of a set.

Don't worry about the specs given by the manufacturer, but you should check out reviews of both. Personally, I'm willing to drop a size for better picture quality.

Samsung PN50C7000
Yamaha RX-V775WA

BIC Venturi DV62 CLRs Center

Still building but sounds amazing so far

if u won't use any of the internet apps and don't care for the slim bezel then the 550 will probably be better for u in a larger screen. the 6500 still has glare but it's been claimed that it is much less than the 550 (i have the 59D6500).

*Some* of the possible improvements in PQ on the D6500 may be mitigated by your viewing distance as well (i.e. dithering, grain, etc.). I really don't know what the differences are, but that's definitely something to keep in mind. You will probably still see differences in gamma, color accuracy, black levels, etc.

Alas, the person who NEEDS to see these two sets "in person" is YOURSELF (!)

You may notice differences between the two sets that someone else might not. And, in all probability, someone with "trained eyes" will clearly see - and perhaps even be bothered by - things that you would never see on your own, and Might Not see even once they are pointed out to you.

This is not to say that there is not general agreement as to which tvs sit at the top of the PQ list, and which sit at the bottom, but when it come down to two mid-range models like the 6500 and 550 the question of Price vs Performance is often very much a Personal Preference....

That aside, try to find "professional reviews" of each set, and consider the advice that psychobrew has provided...
