So do the E-series plasmas have buzzing or not? Help us out here guys, if you've got one, mute the sound and watch some content with no audio!

My E6500 will arrive Saturday, I'll let you know if it buzzes once I get it.

I am in the need to upgrade my display, in past I have purchased a display that has no tuner, speakers or any bells in whistles. A professional model not a consumer one. I am very interested in this new Samsung PN51E8000, but am not concerned with the other crap that comes with it. I am concerned with the picture and picture only! I am currently looking at the Panasonic Pro TH50PF30 (http://www.panasonic.com/business/plasma/TH-50PF30U.asp). However the professional lines of manufacturers do not get updated as often as standard consumer products. I do not buy this type of things from BB or Amazon, I go to a HIGHLY recommended Home Theater store in my area.

I am looking for the below data of the PN51E8000 to compare the two apples to apples.

Number of Pixels (H x V):
Pixel Pitch (H x V):
Contast Ratio:
Gradation:

Would love to hear your thoughts on this, if I go with Samsung it would most likely be the E7000 because I have no need for the camera or ID stuff......I have a computer.

FYI, a properly calibrated D series plasma has no red tint to the whites. But it was shown that picture presets will have some set to set variation, so maybe they tightened that up a bit.

Also something to know...

The D8000 probably has a lot of hours on it. Because of the way the red, green and blue phosphors wear it's actually that there is less blue and green in the picture and red is brighter. This is normal for the TV to drift like this and whites to look pink after awhile. I bet it's never been calibrated, or it's been many many months and hours since it was last.

Most plasma TVs do try and correct for this over time via software but it's not an exact science.

Checkout the "color temperature" section. You can see here that the color temps drop with time. Lower color temps will be warmer/redish.

Glad you like it

Yea, I have to agree with the two prior posts. I will award you 100 points for taking the time to report your observations. But, its kinda unqualified to conclude anything about subtle white balance shifts or any other subtle image differences when comparing a new set to one with 4,ooo hours on it when probably neither has been calibrated or optimized. That's what makes comparing different sets at stores so difficult.

I'd love to hear any thoughts about a side by side with a lcd or led/lcd.

Well if its just the image why not look lower at the 6500 or even the 550. I think they all use the same display and processor.

As far as where you purchase it from, who cares. If your happy with your local HTS, good for you.

The E6500 has definite buzzing. Can anyone with the E7000/8000 let me know if theirs does too? I'm thinking of exchanging mine for a ST50.

I just read through the manual and it doesn't look like it does. I don't own this set, so it's possible i may be wrong, but it's also unlikely at the same time. I wouldn't get your hopes up. I have no idea why they removed this feature, especially considering Panasonic added it last year and has expanded upon the option this year.

Over in the E8000 thread there are multiple confirmations of buzzing

The ST50 sounds like a beast. Might be a wise decision.

That sucks. Hope you get a good replacement. Can you share your opinion on the PQ?

PQ is amazing, but I don't have another plasma to directly compare it to.

Thanks. I'm between the 60st50 and the 60e6500 myself. What model are the glasses that come with the set and have you tried the 3-D?

It seems ridiculous that buzzing is still a problem. That one single problem appears to account for about 80% of the complaints with Samsung plasma's. Simple question. Why can't they fix a problem that seems to be pretty much a non factor with their competition?

The buzz on my new e8000 sounds comes from the front and almost sounds like the plasma reacting. Gets louder when the picture gets brighter.

I just put in the order to exchange my 59D7000 for the 60E6500 because of buzzing and a couple stuck pixels. It is going to kill me if the E6500 is a buzzer. I've owned 4 Sammie Plasma, going back to their first 1080P plasma the 5084, and I've never heard as much buzzing from one of my displays as I did on the D7000. I will be looking at another exchange, and another brand, if this one is a hummer. I love the PQ of the D7000 but I just cant get past the fact that Samaung continues to produce displays that have this problem. Im keeping my fingers crossed...but, at this point, I am very doubtful that I will be watching the Chicago Cubs home opener on a Samsung. Anyone know how the St or GT Pani's compare to the Sammie E series?

It always gets louder when the picture is brighter.

There is no difference in HDMI cables. If you can see the picture without visible dropouts or sparklies, the cable is working at 100%. No other cable will display a better version of that picture. You're simply wrong if you think there is a better digital cable than one that is already working.

Just finished unboxing my E60 6500 that replaced my buzzing D59 7000. I would say the PQ is equal to the D7000 except for the two PINK AND WHITE LINES RUNNING DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN! Really, Samsung, did they layoff their QC department? I put in a phone call to ABT for a replacement, I should hear back on Monday. Seriously think it might be time to break camp and search for another brand to give my money to. I've spent almost $9000.00 over the last five years on samsung plasmas and every single one has either arrived defective, or needed a service call within the warranty period. Where did I put the bottle of Jamesons? I should mention there is absolutely ZERO buzzing on this unit..absolutley Zero. Anyone have any questions just ask.

Maybe you found the answer: the pink and white lines are used to cancel the buzzing noise. But seriously, that's a real shame. With some reviews starting to show up here and there I am now leaning toward something in the Panasonic t50 series.

Hope things work out for you.

Will Samsung be making a PN64E6500?
I want a 64", but I don't need a 8000 and not sure on the 550.
So if not I will have to go to the 7000.
Any news on that?
