Zoyd.. Just out of curiosity...

Since the timing board update fixes the issue, what does the rest of the firmware do? If you manually flashed the timing board and kept older firmware would the result be the same?

Correct me if I am wrong on this but KUDOS go to:

Zoyd - I did not do this alone! Thanks go to the following -
Rainer Ullrich, aka skyteddy (ruSamsungcomminucator)
LarryInRI (found method to activate usb d/l function on panels
Moderators at samygo.tv (firmware decrypting software)
Forum members (testing and reporting results - that was a great help!)

Samsung Support was MIA as far as I can tell or very slow to respond.

My guess is the main FW was only to deliver the TCON update since that was what people were complaining about and also the rev #'s were minors (1024.3->1024.8 etc.). If they are smart they'll bundle it in the next major rev. assuming they can fix the bug that wouldn't allow it to install on some displays.

I did add this to the credits as I feel they do deserve credit for addressing the issue.

Yes. But. This has gone on for months with SAMSUNG not acknowledging publicly that there was an issue.

I presume you got the TCON .bin files from SAMSUNG? How? If so, then at least they provided them. The fix works albeit a bit complicated for most owners of the TV (i.e. not plug and play) - and it was self serviced by us. Chat knows nothing about this. Service techs seem to know nothing about this from what has been posted.

I have always been pleased with price and perfrormance of my Sammy. The pops to me were very annoying. The pictrue now is even more awesome.

Again Zoyd, thanks for all of you coodination on this thread.

By the way, sure would've been nice if there was some way to have entered INFO+FACTORY with the TV Remote via key combos or something.

updating via USB stick last night before i went to bed (59D6500). update was smooth and easy. shut off then turned back on and i thought it was finished, then it shows this

Checked the SW version and it's now 11-04-11. Just want to say thanks to everyone who helped out and for their knowledge! there should be a donate button.

One question Zoyd, just for the sake of science i would love to try and use your fix method on my 59d550,even though i already installed the 1019.5 firmware and got the optimization screen.
So far i think it solved the problem, but since i want to test your method, I wanted to ask you if its safe or should i leave it as it is.

As far as i can tell the 1019.5 fw worked for me, although im not sure if the firmware (King5six1 1019.5) i used was only intended for 64 inch models and US models only.

And since i have a PL59d550 purchased in Mexico, i dont know if i should redo the fix using the Zoyd method to get better results from what i have.

Maybe using King5six1 fw on my plasma screwed something i havent realized yet.

Thanks. If you tell me is best to use your method i will post all the results.

Cheers.

I don't know if 1019.5 works on 400 series, you can try it and if it doesn't work try the logic board update instructions in first post.

How long does it take for Samsung to send the USB stick? It's been a whole week already for me.

Zoyd Hello, I installed the fix on my 51D8000 in Italy (Europe model)

Logic SW Version: 11-10-31

pop free, Thanks to you and Larry

I would ask you, since in the U.S. the TV works with different voltages compared to Europe, if there is any contraindication to upgrade the TV firmware with an American firmware.
On my tv the picture looks slightly changed ...
Initially I had the feeling that the black level was raised, but then, after two days, it seems to me that black is always the same and instead changed the picture in general ... for the better.

hello and nice to hear it worked for you. The logic boards are the same for NTSC and PAL, they can handle both frequencies. The difference is in the power supply voltages (different board) and mains connection so the update works for all regions. Other people have reported slight changes in the picture after the update including a very small reduction in mll and slight increase in contrast which may require you to tweak those controls. There really haven't been any negative reports yet so I think all is good.

cheers

Worked for me as well with a U.S. Pn59d7000

I used McMuffin's file 1014.6 from 1st page, lucky that I didn't have to update the logic board since my firmware was 1013, got the optimization screen :-), and now a very happy customer, thanks so much for everything!!!

I received the usb from Samsung for my PN59D6500 and the version info file contains this line

Quote:

SWU_T-MST5AUSC_001014_I01_ES000_111206

Does it mean the software version is 11-12-06 if updated using the usb?

If you upload the file I'll take a look and see if the .bin files are any different.

11-12-06 is the creation date of the file.

I did the logic board update on my 51d6500. I never got any pops since buying the tv back in july but was feeling left out so I did it anyways, it worked. I didnt see any optimizing screen though, not sure if you see that when doing from the logic board. Now Mr. Zoyd sir I have to try your voltage tweeks. I'm just waiting for the wife to be gone for the day. Just in case I do a booboo I can put the back on and play dumb. Great job to you and larry and to this whole forum for not giving up and figuring it out ourselves

yep, .bin files are identical to those in first post.

@kanpol cool, good luck. Yrr makes the most difference if you don't want to mess with the voltages.

Thank you so much for this! I have been extremely frustrated with this brightness pop issue. I had Samsung replace the entire panel about 1 month into ownership. It didn't fix the issue. I've been living with it ever since and it's quite embarrassing to watch movies with friends or family with the pops showing up so often.

I was able to enjoy the latest episode of Person of Interest without any pops. In the past it was impossible to watch a single episode without several of the pops occurring. The picture quality of the image in general has seemingly increased as well. I noticed better color quality of the PS3 theme I use when I turned on the PS3 after the firmware update. None of my TV settings have changed from pre-update to new.

This is what the 2011 Samsung plasma's are supposed to look like... amazing!

I'm receiving a new 64D7000 tomorrow. Are new sets with the latest firmware shipping with the pops already fixed? What firmware and build date should I look far to know if the issue is resolved without loading a new firmware?

Thanks,
Andrew
