Doubtful, just make sure you don't update your firmware from Samsung and instead try muffinmcfluffin's firmware (linked in the first post), it's version 1014.6. It should do the trick.

I installed muffin's firmware on my 59D7000 (DS panel), and sucessfully optimized. Logic is now 11-11-04, and this firmware actually works.

For a particularly nasty pop fest, I checked a concert bluray in 1080i (Return To Forever, Montreux - absolutely stunning quality audio and video). This is a perfect FBr test disc. Only one visible brightness fluctuation remained, guitar solo with about half of the frame very bright and half jet black. Instead of a single large pop, I get 2 smaller steps up (mini pops) followed by a slide up a touch more. So, I'll give it a 95% fix, and that's good enough!

Thanks to zoyd, larry, and everyone else who played guinea pig while I sat back and waited until I thought it was safe. Sissy.

and in the event you do update to 1015 or greater, no worries. ZOYD-FIX will still work from post#1

+1000 thanks to Zoyd/Larry and the rest of the extremely supportive AVS members for all of your assistance.

Being able to truly appreciate this outstanding display now "pop-free" with the logic board fix - PRICELESS!

I am going to be updating my 51d8000 after the big game on sunday. I am alittle curious what the general consensus on which method I should follow.

Should I just install it via Samsung's directions, or should I do it via Zoyd's method.

I would prefer to do it the Samsung way because of how easy it is, but just wanted to see the benefits/ risks associated.

Cheers

TV: Samsung PN51D8000

Sound: Denon 1910, Polk Monitor 70 Fronts, CS20 Center, Monitor 40 Rears, PSW505 sub

No real advantage to either, except the fact that zoyd's method has never failed AFAIK. If you're shy about service menu stuff (and there is good reason to be), then just try the firmware first. At least you have a backup method.

Thanks for that, I think an important thing to note is cut off from the bottom. If the TV fails to power back up, wait 60 seconds before doing it yourself (I think).

What's the difference between ITO and ITOless?

After some more research I think I've figured out the difference between the two files available for 59" and 64" panels, it's not a difference between the names DeepBlack and lessDeepBlack but rather ITO and ITOless. ITO refers to the inner structure of the pixels, it's an electrode within the pixel. There are also ITO-less pixels that use a different electrode structure (I know, your eyes are glazing over at this point). Anyway the major difference between ITO and ITO-less pixels is that the ITO-less ones exhibit about 1/3 less image retention. So there are two different types of larger panels in circulation right now with different IR characteristics.

How can you determine which "type of larger panel" you have so you can know which file to download, or does it matter?

The only way to tell that I know of is to see which file loads.

Hey Zoyd when you do the logic board update only do you still get the optimizing screen when tv turns back on or is that only when doing it through the normal updating method. Also is there any difference between the DS and DF panels?

It is a joy now to watch Turner Classic Movies. The timing for this logic board update is perfect since the annual "31 Days of Oscar" started February 1. It is a programming specialty of TCM and is featured just before the Academy Awards each year.

To watch a classic 4:3 B&W movie with unvarying black pillar bars on my 64D7000 is great.

Updated my D8000 to 1024.8 and firmware is now at 11-11-01 so I guess that the posted 11-10-31 firmware is older. Will perform test later on today.

Also, quick find; when you are in an application, the menu key does not work so you can't change the display setting but if you click on the "Tools" button then you can change the display setting. Wish I knew that last week since I just got this tv replace because I could not change the settings and did not like the fact that I couldn't access the menu. Pretty sad when Samsung Help Desk did not suggest this step. They told me to send the tv back which I did....pretty sad.

Thanks Zoyd for the info.

Now I need to work on my Panasonic S30 TV, just picked it up yesterday.

Well was watching a movie and noticed that I'm seeing some jidder in certain scenes but did not see this issue until I updated the software to 1024.8

Has anybody else seen this issue?

I have seen some pops still with my 64D8000. I just saw one in Book of Eli, but they are greatly attenuated. I have checked the logic board firmware and saw the newest version, and I did see the optimization screen during the USB upgrade. I hope they continue fixing the issue.

Except, of course, in paranoid delusions for those that believe.

My set is a Dec 2011 build on software 1013. I just got it yesterday and watched many hours, including the Super Bowl. I haven't noticed any pops yet. Should I bother updating the software? Is it possible that my set wouldn't have them with the 1013 version and Dec build date? Do you think they'll be a software update online through the TV for fixing the pops?

From reading this thread it sounds like version 1014.6 fixes the pops so it doesn't sound likely that my set would be cured? Normally I notice the issues identified on the board, but maybe I'm loosing my critical eye. You have to love this forum...searching for problems!

Thanks,
Andrew

I had an episode of Dexter and Homeland that I saved the recordings because i saw a lot of pops.. While they weren't huge pops, they were noticeable to me... I have 59" D550... Updated to the firmware that I downloaded from post #1, and it worked..

Prior to downloading, I verified where the pops occurred, then I applied the update, and pops were gone... I'd have to watch more to truly say it's completely gone, but so far it's looking good!

NOTE:
Not sure if this matters or not, but I had firmware 1019 prior to the update (it's what my tv came with when I got it late Nov)... In fact when it detected the firmware it said I was going to upgrade from 1019 to 1019 which kinda confused me at first... I did get the "optimizing" screen after it initially turned off and turned back on.

Lex Luthor, Ruler of Australia, activate the machine!

So what did the the FIX really do to the way the TV operates?

I know the TCON board was flashed with the new version - but programmatically - what is the TV doing or more importatnly NOT doing with the correct firmware in place - that corrects the FBr issue?

Has something been disabled? Zoyd?

Hi All,

I just upgraded my PS64D8000 to logic SW 11-11-04 and it solved my problem with the FBr

I'm having a lot of issues with whites still as stated here as I use my TV as a monitor too with a lot of white backgrounds (such as the one on this forum), does anyone have settings for white balance/contrast or limits that will prevent/reduce the effects of this please?

Thanks,
Ross

FWIW, I just bought a 54D7000 last week and the build date was 12/31/2011 - it took me quite a while but I finally did see some pops. Updated the logic board using the emulator that zoyd and Larry came up with and haven't had any problems since. The emulator method was surprisingly easy to do and I am ecstatic that they were able to address this issue.

Can this file be downloaded and extracted on a Mac? When I do it I get a folder, is it the folder that I need to rename?
