U can see there if your model is ZG, ZA or other models.

in your link above, if u press "Software Update" and then [Operating System(s)] LG Firm and "view more", u'll see that this update is for a lot of PA models:

[Applicable Model]
42PA4500-UM
50PA4500-UM
50PA4900-UD
50PA5500-UG
50PA550C-UG
50PA6500-UG
60PA5500-UG
60PA550C-UG
60PA6500-UG
60PA6550-UM

So if your 60'' set is UG or UM, u can install it. If not, u need to wait for another update suitable for your model.

Hey thanks for the reply man, cause i was really stuck here. I just checked..but seems like i'm out of luck. I have a ZA model. I doubt i'll be seeing a firmware update anytime soon.

But i found something interesting. On another forum I saw someone saying you can rename the input of lets say HDMI to PC. I was never aware of this option, but I tried it. I renamed HDMI 2 input to PC and all of a sudden the picture quality was more crisp than usual. If the input remains unnamed/unchanged it looks a lot less crisp. Remember I said that I thought VGA looked better? This now looks exactly like VGA, however..the sharpness, colour and many other advanced control settings are again unavailable. But the Vivid picture mode that is just overly vibrant and ugly on HDMI (without changing input to PC) looks a lot better when the input is changed to PC. Why is this?

Hi Moonwalker, I am happy that you are still here in this thread and your informations are very helpful. I have vertical banding problem exactly like yours. on the grey or light background, the banding was especially visible when the energy saver was set on maximum. I bought this tv (60pa6500) from Costco Canada April 2013, it was clearance $799.99 CA. I did Google search and this banding are normal. but i can see the banding on the grey or light background all the time. should I call for the warranty? and how is your tv now? thank you.

If your model is ZA, then i have an update for you. Check this romanian site (im from romania)
http://www.lg.com/ro/suport-produs/lg-50PA6500#
Software_File(Version_03.31.12).zip
[Applicable Model]
42PA4500-ZF
42PA4900-ZE
50PA4500-ZF
50PA4900-ZE
50PA5500-ZB
50PA6500-ZA
60PA5500-ZB
60PA6500-ZA
42PA4510-ZA
42PA4520-ZC
50PA4510-ZA
50PA4520-ZC
50PA6520-ZF

If u press there "Afla mai mult" (view more) u will see the models like i show u here. So, i think the correct version for u is 03.31.12.
But to make sure what version u have instaled on TV, press like i told u before:
Settings / Red button with single white dot / Product/Service Info and check there. If your firmware is older, you can download and install this. But let the TV do it automaticaly, dont try to install it yourself double clicking in from the stick. Cos if the TV dont pop up and tell you that a new version of firmware is found and ask u to press yes to install, then is not a suitable version for your TV.

Hey man. Well i accepted it. I still see it in games like Skyrim and GTA V when looking at the sky, i clearly see vertical banding and its distracting as hell. But i've come to realize (after having had several plasma's now) or just tv's in general, there is no perfect TV. I didn't have any problems with my Samsung plasma a lot time ago, but i did have the horrible green blob on the Panasonic VT30, then i went with a Toshiba 55 inch LED which was said to be perfect for gaming, but the blur destroyed my gaming experience completely. And now this LG plasma which so far its only true downer is the banding. But apparently it's a common thing for plasma.

For my ZG model i didnt noticed any improvements but must be some. Thats the point of updates, right?
Well on LG site, u cant find the information about this update, they are lazy about sharing infos.
The only thing i noticed is that, when i open the TV, the clock isnt there anymore.
Anyway, i dont have reasons to complain about this TV yet.

Now that i have upgraded the firmware, it's probably not possible anymore to go back to the previous version, right? Just to check if there are any picture quality differences. But i assume there's no 'going back' anymore, right? smile.gif

Because i;m probably not too happy with the changes it seems to have brought. I could be wrong and that it's just me, but after the firmware upgrade it seems that the picture quality isn't as crisp as it used to be. I use the GAME picture mode on the tv and I have changed all the settings back to how they were before the upgrade, but letters on the Xbox 360 dashboard seem less crisp and games in general too, while I do have selected those exact settings.

There isn't a way at all to downgrade or well...hard-reset the tv so that it goes back to the previous firmware?

My 606550 just died! Was watching Walking Dead on Netflix through PS3, then all of a sudden no picture! The tv turns on and off, and there is audio, but the screen is completely black. I can't even bring up the controls or settings displays. Unplugged everything, still nothing. This was purchased in July 2012 from Costco. WTH. Now what?

Surely you can count on the warranty?

Luckily Costco offers an extra year warranty for free. I would be seriously upset if it was a few months out of warranty and this happened. Costco is having a repair company contact us to set up a time to come out, hopefully soon.

Ah, the famous 12 to 15 month LG poop out. Been there, done that. And so have thousands of others if one is to believe what pops up on the google search. Usually it is a power supply board. Mine pooped out right on schedule 15 months after purchase. Cogeco extended warrenty came into play. Same symptoms as you. Turns on and then off within a second. I did not have sound however.
Warrenty people contacted their local service depot, set was picked up and returned a week later. "We changed the board" was all I was told. Quality of service will depend on skills etc of your local shop.

Hopefully this isn't a recurring problem once it's repaired.

Tech guy called and they are ordering parts, said should be here in about 3 days, then will schedule to come out.

Thanks for reply, so here are my 60pa6500's photos. Do you guys think this is horrible banding?? and do you guys accept this? Because this is my first plasma TV and I also own a 47" LG LEDTV. I love plasma very much, but I can't believe this banding issue.

should I call for the warranty? Costco will repair or replace a new TV? or should I keep it like this?  Thanks

Repairman came out, replaced three different boards, still did not fix the problem. Called Costco asking for a refund, manager said no problem, bring it in. How awesome is Costco! Thankfully there is at least one company in this world that stands by their products and does the right thing. I doubt if any company would take back a 15 month old tv for a full refund.

No more LG anything for me. Boycott LG! For goodness sake, this company is knowingly selling crap and getting away with it. When people across the country experience the same problem, failure just after warranty expires, it's time to send these companies a message. New electronics should last a minimum of 10 years, not 15 months.

Also for my 60pa6500, (Costco refunded everything). I called Costco first, then she said I have to contact LG. Called LG and she said I need to e-mail two of my TV's photos to LG. After 5 Days, Costco called me to return the TV. I thought they will replace a new model 60pn6500 for me,but the CSR said I have to get refund first and then repurchase. Now I will wait and see what TV go next.

Costco is the BEST,best service and warranty. Thank you

Sucks to hear that man and glad for you Peter.

I sold my tv, i've made the decision to go back to something i have been missing all this time. True big screen gaming and cinema. I am going for a full HD Optoma Projector and soon a 90 or 100 inch to use for it.

Quote from above: agree. I think LG is exiting the top market I am in total agreement with that. My 50" LG PA6500 packed in after 15 months (seems OK now after local Cogeco rep took it away for a week ... see my postings in these pages). I just bought a 24" LG computer monitor. The software is buggy, written by an uneducated 8 year old in some far off galaxy. I actually pushed at least 37 telephone buttons going thru "push 1 for EngRish push 2 for appliances .... " First real person was in Quebec, she pushed me over to computers in the Phillipines! She could not help me with trying to get proper software updates. Finally an email address that worked. They sent me updates inPDF form which was also buggy. Enough of 3rd tier products.

Also, how is it for sports? Debating between this and the samsung plasma, but apparently that tv sucks for hockey. Ugh.

sports are not bad, I know some Samsung plasm has flashing problems on ice hockey game!!

(I remembered watching TOR vs BOS last year playoff game, and no problem for LG)

Add me to the list of those who've had the circuit board go bad on their LG. (50PA5500 specifically) Luckily I was able to talk LG into a free out-of-warranty repair by calmly stating that this seems to be a widespread issue with last year's model, so not too much harm done. Definitely staying away from LG from now on though.

I know this reply is really late. I have a small studio, with windows on one side, looking over the city. I am South East, with excellent sunlight. The TV is Perpendicular to the windows. It does not get much direct sun (no beams). My 50 inch model does glare, but not horribly. I am able to focus past it, like old B&W, or some color CRT's. If I am home during the morning, I watch my B-list shows That I listen to, more than watch. If I am home in the afternoon, I can see past the glare almost entirely. I don't know if everyone is able to filter the glare out, like I feel I can.

Evenings is when I like to watch favorite TV shows from the previous days. It pops.

Nights, my favorite time to watch TV is flawless. I could not ask for better.

I do have black-out curtains if I need, but I prefer the sunlight. I love the swivel, and built in divx/mkv player.

Thank you everyone for the great picture settings. only thing I notice is sometimes bright white backgrounds almost look a tiny bit blue. Tiny. A Doctor's jacket looks perfect, as is text. Conversely, the blacks are just stunning. Saturation of other colors just Pop! I watched the new Cosmos, twice. This is after almost two years.

This was a floor model. I don't have much money, so for $550, it is right for me. There were less than 100 hours on it!

It did break on my about 6 months out. I was simply lifting one side up (near middle, not edge), and the picture went. LG took care of everything, even a loaner for the 2 weeks it was out. It was serviced by the best TV people in town. Not a moment's trouble since. I never upped the firmware, as I have no problems (I have the 6500- 50 inch).

If you still can find one, I'd buy it if it were $550, or below. I only say that because LG backed the warranty, without any fight. Not all products are perfect, and they made good.

When people come over and see my TV, they wonder how a "cheap" TV can be better than their newer LCD's. I always known Plasma was the way to go, as I am a fan of many tech-casts, and blogs. The general consensus was that LG was the weaker than the other two manufacturers, but they always test the TV's I could never afford. I love it, and it works for me. I feel this TV will last me many years. I can wait for 4K to be obtainable, with abundant content.
