Since you mentioned It I can notice those too on my plasma.
I can't see them during a movie, but on dark image I can for example.

I'd like to ask again since no one answered, I'm not able to see the running time on my plasma in the "Costumer support" menu, can any of you ? Someone said earlier in this topic that he could, I wonder why I can't.

It would come in handy for the break-in period.

Two things I'd like to mention:

1. Dithering in the dark shades near black is not the same as on Panasonics. Panas have much finer noise in these areas and this year's models even made additional progress to that matter.

2. Brody76, 46 to 48 brightness seems too low. The brightnesssetting is basically there to reach for the optimum point of black. On my PK350 it's 54.

My ancient 27" CRT died, finally. I was hoping it would hold on until OLEDs dropped into my price range. Alas.

So what I was thinking was that I'd get a good but not great set now to tide me over until OLEDs are reasonably priced. I was getting ready to buy a 60" Panasonic ST50 that is on sale at London Drugs here in Canada for $200 off (regular $2499) until May 23rd. The ST50 has awesome bang for the buck, but there are a number of people that comment on its buzz that I am very sensitive to (took back two Samsung 6500's last year because of it). That plus flashing during basketball / hockey and so-so 3D are giving me second thoughts.

Costco up here has the 60" LG PA6500 for $200 off its regular price of $1499. That $1000 difference widens if you consider that I'd have to buy a pair of 3D glasses to take full advantage of the ST50. My room's light is well controlled so I can live with the LG being more reflective than the Panny. The LG is looking like a heck of a deal. I don't care about SmartTV. 3D would be nice but no point paying a lot if it isn't really good 3D, and it sounds like the ST50 doesn't have really good 3D.

Anyhoo, I've read all the messages in this thread and haven't seen any comments on input lag for gaming. The ST50 is excellent here. Can anyone comment on how the LG fares?

I decided I was still unhappy with flesh tones, compared to my Sammy plasmas. So I started over and kept it simple:

Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Energy Saving: Off
Picture Mode: Standard (User)
Contrast: 83
Brightness:55
Sharpness:25
Color: 48
Tint: G8
Color Temp: W10

Advanced Control

Dynamic Contrast: Off
Noise Reduction: Off
Gamma: Medium
Black Level: Low
Color Gamut: Wide
Edge Enhancement: Off

Best yet. I'm probably done.

Well after 50 it starts degrading my blacks, and making them clearer.

I'm at 52 now, or I will have that annoying bug if I go any lower (screen turning off). But I couldn't go any higher, or my blacks would look washed out.
I think it mostly depends on the room and position of the set.

Settings/red button/product/service info... The fourth line down right under serial number is "used time"

Yep, that's what I've been doing.
Unfortunately I don't have a forth line (it's empty, like a skipped line).

Do you happen to have the 5500 by any chance ? Maybe that's one of the differences between the 6500 and 5500.

From what I read, the PM6700 was terrible compared to the PA6500.
Some users swapped it for the PA6500 because it had better PQ.

Anyway, here it is :

My 60PA6500 has the fourth line, labeled "Used Time". Firmware version is 03.09.00. Perhaps this is a difference between the US firmware and your (French?) firmware.

I had the PM6700. The picture was about the same as the PA6500. I got two in a row with defects in the panel. There was what looked like plastic shaving or debris behind the glass about the size of 2-3 pixels. Not wanting to try my luck a third time, I switched to an led set. The 3d was amazing with the passive cinema 3d but the 2 D picture was garbage. After seeing the passive 3d, I decided it was a waste of money to get a plasma with active 3D because it would just be a letdown in comparison. Too much crosstalk and ghosting. So I went with the 60PA6500 and have been issue free since.

Mine looks about like the other two sets I've displayed 24fps in. It just has a little judder because it is an entry model set IMO.

Did you read somewhere that it has a problem or is it your opinion that it has an issue ?

Someone on the HDTV shootout in the US said that yesterday
just wanted to check the judder level.
so It's fine Thanks
I'm still waiting for my Pa6500 to come in.
I've got a 50PK550 now but the shadow details I lose made me want a Pa6500.
(+ the cheap upgrade price)

Like I said. I'm not an expert and I picked mine up for $998. For a 60 inch plasma that costs less than a grand it looks acceptable to me. There is some judder but I have more tolerance due to the price. I can totally live with any deficiencies for what I paid. A competing Samsung where I live is $350 more and $500+ more for a Panasonic.

I agree.

Last night turned the TV on to catch up with a few shows, and I was surprised by the PQ again, really good for the price.

As for judder, have noticed some few times, but nothing bad.
I can live with it.

Does anyone know if it's still possible to activate THX via secret menu on the 2012 models ?

I posted a thread in the plasma forum about an issue I'm having with our new 60PA6500. I was referred to the owner's thread and I hope I've found the right place.

Forgive my copy/paste but this is what I had written out in the other thread:

I've got a question specifically about the black, fading to black and seemingly power off for a brief second during that time.

We were watching a movie (blu-ray on PS3) the other night and quite often scenes were fading to black then fading in to the picture from black. Something I noticed is when it first faded to black it looked fine, but once it reached a certain "level of black/darkness" it was a sudden change from the...greyish color that I assume is the light because the TV is on...to a very deep black with no light, like the TV shuts off. It's almost like at the end of the fade it shuts off briefly and then starts up (ie. light/TV comes on) and then fades back in. It's a minor issue but hugely distracting when you notice it.

I hope I've described the issue well enough to be understood and wanted to ask if there's anything I can do about that. Is there a setting somewhere perhaps that prevents it from completely shutting off when fading to black? Or is it something that we just have to deal with.

Thanks!

I think Brody said not to put Brightness below 50 or 52 to stop this.

Mine is boxed up and going back tomorrow. Worst dithering I have ever seen. Looks like red and green noise. Only way to reduce it is to crush the blacks. Bad enough that it actually distorts the lines with letterbox content at normal viewing distance. I have had 3 defective LG plasmas this year. Ordered a new Samsung PN64e550. Hoping to have better luck. I think LG is cutting too many corners trying to compete with Samsung and Panasonic and it is severely affecting quality. I pretty much will never buy another LG product after this mess.

Installing and returning 3 60 inch plasmas totally sucks!!

Thanks for the tip, I'll put the brightness up a bit, I think it's at 50 right now. Also I think we turned energy saving on the other day. I take it that's not a good idea? (I'll say I wasn't the one who wanted it on)

Also I'm kind of worried after looking through this thread about how unhappy people are with the TV. Personally I think it looks great, but I haven't had 5 or 10 plasmas in the past to compare it to.

I'm sure I'll be able to do a few tweaks here and there to improve it even more but I'm happy with it for sure.

I feel the same, for the price I can't complain.
If it was 1k I would definitively return it and get a Samsung or Pana, but for 700$ ....
