I think at 8 feet a 65 is fine. With hd, especially blurays, you can have a big picture at a shorter distance. I wouldn't want to sit 3 feet from one but at 8 feet I would have no problem with a 65 or bigger if I could afford it.

Join the club. I think a lot of people will be the same way. I am looking at the e6500 as well because I like the black bezel and I don't think there is any difference in pic quality between the 6500, 7000 and 8000. I know I read that on the samsung thread but I'm not sure if that's a fact yet or not.

Haven't pulled any triggers yet but I'm swaying towards the p50ST50. Was extremely close to getting a pn51D7000 and doing the back panel tweak, but the st50's are now out and surprisingly cheaper. =) A big plus is also the better blacks, better bright room performance and this might not be a big deal for many but the st50's feature an ARC that sadly the D7000's and below did not have. Not sure if this years E7000's will feature it but i doubt it. Overall though, it seems like the Panasonics went through a much more thorough overhaul
Im no fanboy either as i love the Samsungs more modern design (imo), and the more extensive picture controls. I'd still try and wait for any expert reviews to begin popping up before making a decision.
Oh also, does anybody know if it's possible to upgrade an ST series tv to a VT? Not a deal breaker as i hear the ST series' color accuracy is pretty good, but i would just love a color management system to dial in those primaries.

Thanks ahead.

Wow you guys, he just quoted the lyrics from a rapper known as D-Nice from circa 1990 lol

Thanks again to member D-nice for his work on these displays and the time he takes to respond to posts.

I have one question, having never been in the presence of a Kuro, does the ST50 buzz more or less? Main reason I ask is because it is being located into a drywall framed opening created to fit up to a 47.5" wide TV (basically a 50/51) and I am a little wary of noise bouncing in the cubby. Looking to buy my first 1080P plasma (had a 1080i Sony Circa 2004), and need to do it in the next week or so as I plan to run your slides and settings.

TIA

I'm sorry to hear that. Not trying to be an ass but anyone serious about video needs to check out a Kuro. I own several Pannys so no fanboy here.

Got my 50ST50 setup and run through the slides. Just wanted to say thanks to D-Nice...the settings work really well with my setup. My first impression was WOW with the color and blacks. I don't have another plasma to compare it to, but the brightness levels seem great, can't wait to see what happens with the sun out and curtains open. That was one of my concerns, but not as much now.

Really impressed. I hope nothing pops up as the panel ages because this was definitely worth the purchase price.

Aesthetically, the bezel looks better than what the photos indicate. Maybe not as nice as Samsung, but close enough.

btw, I didn't detect the buzzing while standing next to the display, but I'll continue to monitor.

Sorry this isn't technical, as it is my first plasma TV. Believe I made a good choice.

D-Nice, I also asked this on the other forum but, do you think it is worth the $ to get the VT50 over the ST50?

Question...I have a Boxee Box that can output RGB 0-235; YUV422; YUV444; or RGB 16-235.

What setting should I use with the ST50?

Nobody is going to be able to tell you if it's worth it not since everybody has a different budget, different requirements, different usages, different content, different sources, different viewing environment, etc etc etc.

Only you can decide if it's worth it or not. You have to balance the benefits that appeal to you vs the extra cost so it's a very personal decision.

I assume you were speaking of all Panasonic model 3-D glasses, right?
Thanks for the response. Yea, I wear glasses too, so this is good news about the 3-D glasses you spoke about !

The model number for the one I have is TY-EW3D3ME. They are so light that you can barely feel them even wearing them over glasses. I have heard there is a new version for this year with bluetooth that I would guess is the 4th gen but from the pic I saw they didn't look much different than the 3rd gen. I could be wrong but they may just be the same glasses with bluetooth added in. Maybe someone who has used them could clear that up.

Everything seems very promising with these new sets...BUT I have been reading about dithering for those who own the set is this an issue or is it subtle on these sets. More pronounced on larger sizes or smaller? Really planning on saving up and buying one of these "so far" beasts..!

Check one out at Best Buy once they are in. I've seen the dithering now and I'm not persuaded most people will once they are at normal viewing distances.

There is no difference in HDMI cables. If you can see the picture without visible dropouts or sparklies, the cable is working at 100%. No other cable will display a better version of that picture. You're simply wrong if you think there is a better digital cable than one that is already working.

buzzing can always start to happen over time, when I first got my ST30 I couldnt hear any buzzing now its rather annoying a year later......so much so that I'm take it back to BB since I have a BB warranty and have them fix it or replace it since I can hear it from normal viewing distance.

Another question (or 2) why RGB (I get the 0 vs 16) and not YUV 444, or even 442? Conflicting information out there in regards to what is a standard output or better conversion from 4:2:0.

And the D-Nice settings are based on a RGB input?

These are looking more and more attractive to me. D-Nice (or anyone else with the knowledge to answer), I'm assuming an ST50 would outperform my current G20 by a large margin?

IMO, it's definitely a worthy upgrade considering that the ST50 seems to be considerably better than even the GT30.

@alxrmero, that's not really a fair comparison (2012 midrange Panasonic vs 2011 flagship Samsung). Isn't the D8000 still more than the ST50? Regardless, the ST50 seems to hold it's own. The Samsung has reference color and good blacks, and the ST50 has better blacks with good color. I'm getting an ST50 because it's cheaper and the performance seems to be comparable. I think you could argue that the ST50 is even better.

exciting to hear Panasonic is making strides in quality from year to year. If I get a new TV this year, it'll probably either be an ST50 or VT50. Depends on how far apart they are performance wise. I think I'd also get whichever display pro-calibrated this time around, as I never got my G20 dialed in and have always felt it could look better.

Considering how much they improved the ST series, I have pretty high expectations for the VT50. Especially because I hear that it has some Kuro tech. trickled in. I'm expecting much better color decoding, near reference color, MLL between 0.002 - 0.0025 fL and perfect grayscale and gamma.

Still, too pricey for me. They won't be making the size I'm looking at anyway (60").

I sit about 7 feet away, so my 50" is too small for me now. Ideally I'd like a 60", but if performance is leaps and bounds better on the VT50, I'm sure I could swing a 55" and be happy. I think 65 may be pushing it.
