I have a Sony 55HX923, Would the ST50 be an improvement?

Well that's going from an LCD to a plasma so it's all relative to your preferences. For a few years I had both a Sony LCD and a Panasonic plasma, so best of both worlds. That being said, it sounds like people are pretty happy with their ST50's so far. I am considering getting one here pretty soon. The reviews linked earlier in this thread are all rather promising as far as the qualities you mention go.

I'm big on plasma too. However, I am also interested in the new Panasonic LED WT50 Series. Specifically because of the 47 inch version. Waiting to hear about real world experiences over at the LCD forum. I would probably just buy the VT 50 if they made a 50 inch version.

-I didn't see any green/pink blobs or splotches, or any banding, when the slides were cycling through, but I didn't look extremely closely since I was in a hurry to get back to work.

Well, I spoke too soon. There is a definite pink/purple "halo" that extends about 6" into the screen, while the middle oval has a green push (this is most noticeable on the darker grey D-Nice slide). It isn't EXTREME, but I can tell it is there. Someone who wasn't looking for it may not be able to.

There are also vertical bars that extend from the bottom to the top of the screen throughout.

Not sure if either of these will be visible with regular content. I'll report back.

Very happy with it, considered upgrading to GT50 but since it isn't out yet, my exchange period will end soon but I will be happy if I have to keep ST50. I had a Samsung C8000 two years ago and tried the d6500 last year and this beats both of those. I would say the only thing I really wish it had was calibration modes for day/night isf etc. and the 3d could be better. But that isn't much in comparison to last years pdp problems.

Yes I have watched hockey, and when i tried the 55st50 I had Fbr problems but I tried another set and only the 50st50 and now there is no problem

Yes I'm quoting myself again. Here is a picture of the pink/green. The pic makes it look more noticeable than it actually is.

From the review posted in this thread, the ST50 seems like a great panel. Has anyone used the various Viera Connect features? I am particularly interested in Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix. The other panel I am considering is the LG LM6700 and many have complained that the streaming on this set is bad and very hard to navigate. My current plasma is a Panny monitor that is about 6 years old, so all of the options with streaming and web browsing are new to me.

Does that panel have vertical bars too or did the camera do that? I see two.

Strike above, I was reading the thread backwards.

I'd exchange that set.

Vertical bars too (not colored, just a slightly different brightness).

I have a Panasonic rep coming out tomorrow for my st30 tint. I will show him this pic. I was hoping this was fixed in the 50 series.

Slides are finished. Right side vertical lines are still visible unfortunately. Will view some content tomorrow night and hopefully they are not noticeable, but she might be going back for another try at the inevitable "panel lottery" that is the modern flat panel

That general pattern is identical to the 2011's FWIW. Shame to see it's still an issue.

blind fish guy,

Rotate your digital camera some and see if that effect varies. I had problems shooting another display once due to it changing depending on camera angle and tilt. Something about the camera pixels and display pixels not lineing up properly causing problems. Be sure that the flash is turned off.

Samsung 64F8500, Panasonic 65VT50, Oppo 95, Tivo Roamio for OTA, Dish VIP722, Marantz AV8801 preamp, Rotel Amps, Atlantic Tech 8200 speakers, Seaton Submersive HP, Calman 5, Chromapure, Accupel DVG-5000, i1Display3pro, i1pro2, eecolor colorbox.

These TVs are at Best Buy but not displayed - they are trying to clear off 2011 left overs .

You CAN find a great deal on open box - display , I saw a 59d7000 for incredible px - might be a better tv than st50 .

I rotated the camera for this shot. The sharper horizontal lines in the first pic and vertical lines in this pic (top-to-bottom of the TV) are artifacts of the camera.

Like I mentioned before, the picture over-states the severity, but it can definitely be seen with the plain eye.

I was able to see an ST50 at BB last night. At first the sales guy tried to convince me that the UT50 was a better value and didn't even want to show me the ST. I persisted and he finally took me to the 3D kiosk where they had it on display and the he just started to lay in on the TV, telling me to look at the problems with the corners (from extreme angles). I didn't really understand this sales approach, but whatever.

It's a great picture (even with the limited content I was able to view), and the motion smoothing was hard to discern when activated even on "strong" Strange, because I thought it was supposed to give a pretty obvious soap opera effect. So I wasn't really allowed to play with it much, but I still think I want one.

I posted this a few days ago, but this should generally help in answering your question.

Overall, I'm very happy with this set. I have the tv set up for wireless, and I decided to rent the movie Drive from the Vudu webapp (you get a 5.99 credit just for signing up, BTW). Vudu has true 1080p streaming (which Netflix and Amazon I believe don't), and I must say I was impressed. Picture quality was top notch, and you would never know that you weren't playing off of a bluray...not one buffering screen or hiccup or anything.
