LOL. Yeah I'd like to be around for this too. Although it may be possible, I've known a few people who can do the same by just walking into a room

I will check out the soundbar forum though. thanks again for your reply and the suggestion.

I recently helped a friend with her Panasonic soundbar matched with a G25 and was quite impressed. It's no HT but it sounded much better than the display's speakers, and the wireless sub was a nice addition. Unless you have multiple devices hooked to the TV its an easy setup, and Viera was very handy because both are Panasonic. Also, we got mounting bars that allowed the soundbar to be placed either on top or bottom, which may help in your situation.

The only PITA, a huge PITA, was connections. Heavy HDMI cords are difficult to route into the small space provided.

thank you for your super generous reply. did not know that hdmi cords are heavy. I can imagine routing to be a pain though.
only other device to hookup to tv would be a dvd player.
any idea what the panasonic soundbar model number?

Oh no doubt. I didn't mean my comment to be sarcastic or mean (should have included a smiley). The problem with the "virus" is that people who have it hunt the blob, and become fearful when they see even a hint of it that is only visible on a gray slide. Is that unreasonable fear? I can't say that it is or isn't. However, since people with the 2011 blobs have reported that it got better in time, I'd say that a faint sign, visible only on a single slide, most likely is not a problem worth running from or freaking out about.

Sure, it shouldn't be there at all but every set has problems. If this is the worst this set has then I'll take it. I'll take the 2012 blobs over the 2011 blobs, 2011 FBr, 2010 FB, 2009 rising blacks, the Samsung buzz and LG's always on motion enhancer (LED).

I've been following this thread though not every detail. I have to confess I am interested in this set as a possible replacement to my 2010 50" G20 that just annoys the heck out of me with it's severe floating blacks. Normal tv it looks great but put a 2.35 movie on with the lights down a little & it flashes the black level up & down steady.

My Extended Warranty company went bankrupt right after the Panny warranty expired so I couldn't fight for a replacement so was stuck with it & still am.

I don't recall reading any issues of concern in this thread but just want to ask anyways. Is this set as good & seemingly issue free as I have been reading? If I did make a move I guess I would go 55" this time.

Hard part would be convincing the wife as she thinks this set is great.......

Its cool, I probably took it the wrong way. Your are right, it's not noticeable on 99% of content. I can just be a little ocd about that kind of stuff. I really haven't decided which way I will go but it will probably be the 65ST50 because I think my 55ST30 has a really good picture and the ST50 seems to be a nice improvement from the reviews I've seen. When I saw the pic earlier in this thread with the green tint it got me really worried that the ST50 had the issue but luckily some other owner have told me they have looked at the grey slide and saw nothing so I am feeling better about it now.

No one cares that much since most hook up the tv to a sound system. If it's important to you then you should probably go listen to them yourself instead of depending on the opinions of others.

I heard the tv on low and it sounded like a tv on low.

i cannot hear, because in Europe the ST50 is still not available. I must plan for my girlfriends parents, because they need to renew the 15 Year old TV. I must calculate if i need a soundbar or not. I only read abount 8 Speakers and 1 Subwoofer. Hope it is enough to watch normal TV with a little bit deeper Sound as normal flatpanels

Sound is pretty good IMO and I am a big audio guy. That being said, my 50" ST50 is located inside a 6.5" drywall enclosure which is quite reflective so I do not have a standard installation viewpoint. I will say it is far less thin sounding in general, but I have hardly had any real content outside of Sprout for my son and the NCAA championship game lol. I will be watching the Masters this weekend and may even catch a movie on it finally heh

I have Never heard the speakers on my PX80U. Now I kinda want to turn them up just to hear what they sound like. For all I know they left the speakers out!

I already mentioned in this thread that to me, they sound worse than my six year old Panny plasma, particularly when it comes to voices. They're not as clear.

There better than last year's speakers. They are not as good as a soundbar with sub.

The thinner the TV, the worse the speakers are gonna get. Small speakers generally means crappy sound. If Panasonic didn't redesign their speaker system and just threw in small speakers, it probably would've been worse. Most people don't really care about the built in speakers, but at least Panasonic put an effort in improving on it.

If you're not going to use the slides to break in the 50 series displays what is the recommend steps to insure an even breakin? My thinking is to set brightness to about 90 and run full screen for 100 hours on a station with no static images.

I know this isn't the 'PC' thing around here but I never break in a flat panel. I just watch it and tweak when needed.

Brightness at 90? I hope you meant contrast, even that is probably too high. Get a test disc to use.

Would you not want the brightness and contrast fairly high in order to break in the cells evenly at a higher charge?

Only if you're using a completely uniform screen (color slides). If you're just watching normal content (without static images, of course), it's best to tone down brightness and contrast for the first couple of hundred hours.

There's no point in toning down Brightness. That'll just crush black details and if anything, actually cause the phosphors to be LESS evenly aged. Lowering the contrast would help reduce image retention though.

Lower brightness creates a higher dynamic range which may increase chances of IR.

Well guys I exchanged my ST50 for the Samsung E7000 hoping for a better experience. What I got was a much better 3d experience followed by a complete disappointment in 2d quality.

I attribute a lot of the picture failings on the Samsung to the under performing louver filter. It blocks a lot of light but not on par with the Panasonic. The louver on the Samsung was pretty bad in bright light conditions whereas the ST50 performed miracles in bright light.

I did notice that dithering seemed to be less noticeable on the Samsung than the Panasonic, but it isn't worth the degradation in picture quality and black level. Also the Samsung buzzed a lot more audibly than the Panasonic ever did.

The X stand on the Samsung is atrocious but I did like how it placed the TV a little bit higher so that I could put a 5.1 center speaker in front of the TV with no worry, this was a problem with the Panasonic while laying down on my sofa.

No Fbr on the Samsung like last years FYI.

So back to the store the Sammy goes and next up is the GT50 hoping that the 3d is better and the picture is just as good if not better than the ST50. Will update.

So how exactly does ST50's 3D suck? I would guess that it is as good as as VT50 and GT50. Which one had brighter 3D picture?
