What D-Nice said... mine has been on for a solid 11 hours, and the back of the panel is barely even warm to the touch. I actually have this thing sitting in a fairly small room... if it is putting off heat, it is not noticeable to me or the room temperature (my DLP in the theater room that this set is replacing is actually running hotter).

I have a 60" KURO 151FD and obviously it puts out a little heat, but nothing I would call excessive. Considering a 55" ST50 for another room and the review saying it put out a ton of heat had me a little worried, but apparently that's not the case so no worries.

Someone mentioned the picture dims off axis. I'm guessing it is the louver filter, right? Does it only happen vertically, not horizontally? How bad is it?

Those people are trolls.

Some folks live in the box in which the TV came. Of course, those folks don't have the TV.

The vertical effect was noticeable on last year's VT30 (which I believe has the same filter or a very similar one), but it required a pretty sharp angle before you'd see it. In other words, I doubt any normal viewing scenario would make it apparent. Horizontally, one could stand pretty much anywhere and not see dimming. I doubt you're going to have any issues inside a 90-degree cone (and by any issues, I mean no losses of contrast/brightness) if not larger. But someone can confirm if the new ST50 is meaningfully changed from last year's VT30 (which, again, is similar tech).

There is no difference in HDMI cables. If you can see the picture without visible dropouts or sparklies, the cable is working at 100%. No other cable will display a better version of that picture. You're simply wrong if you think there is a better digital cable than one that is already working.

I have a small center channel and want to make sure it doesn't get in the way of the screen.

I have the same issue with my ST30. I have this really cool old school wood credenza that's about 6ft long and I have my panel, center channel and L/R speakers all on it. However, the center channel has to stay off center, because even though it does not block the screen, it does block the IR sensor for the remote. Which makes it look ghetto.

Enter my I-don't-want-to-drill-holes-in-my-wall solution!

Great thing about this is that I can use it now and also when I upgrade to my 60 or 65" panel for the living room. Can't wait for it to arrive.

Hey, maybe it's a good thing. Maybe it means they got rid of some of the PQ-throttling energy saving crap that made the 30 series so dim.

Last year I noticed the ST30 was very popular for people who play games because of low input lag - is it looking like the ST50 will be the same way?

I saw a UT50 at BB and it was displaying the screen before the surrounding LCD's.

I am not sure. It looked quite good in that setting.
Even in Vivid mode it was not a blue nightmare like the other displays.

However, when the hockey game came on, it was not pretty.
LCD's will demo this material much better.

Dear Dnice,

Seems like you would be the only one to answer my question, since no onw is familar with panasonic professional monitors and there is limited in for on the web.

Since a 60inch St50 would cost the same as panasonic TH-60PF30U
(trying to not mention prices) since I dont need all the consumer apps..have a HTPC, PS3, and Cox DTV tuner.

which of the 2 would be a better buy?

Thanks

D-nice,

No need for an answer about the vx300, read your comments about them on HDJ...

So with your one word answers I think you have given me enough clues to make my decision!

St50 is better than last year's professional TH-60PF30U and the VT30 is better than the Most recent VX300 professional monitor

So if the Vx300 is 4 times the amount of ST50we're talking one awesome TV in this ST50!!

I just want to point out that for a lot of people, any detectable brightness increase is worth at least a few hundred dollars. Just something to think about.

I didn't buy a plasma yet coz of the reduced brightness compared to my current B650 LCD. We are watching TV with a moderate bright light on. Sometimes in full light. My current B650 shows very good blacks and color pops event with all lamps on.
I want to see this from a plasma tv so I think the time could be right now (?) The GT30 almost convinced me but the blacks stil grey out in a bright room. So I hope the best for the upcoming ST50/GT50

No, there was not. I'm not sure how many or what settings were used, but there really was not a difference when all things were set to be equal.

So is the ST50 superior to the VT30?

And how is the new filter? Compared to the Kuros and Samsungs.
