I had my ps3 connected to my 720p DLP ever since the PS3 was released. I thought that is was pretty good. I did just get a 65GT30 and it looks pretty great, it was $1999 at BB. Both look pretty good, but I don't know if I would spend an extra $1270 just for 1080p used strictly for PS3 usage

Unfortunately where I live these are the best prices I can get in the stores.
Where do you live?
You can't order something online?
You can't get the Samsung 7000 or a Panasonic 50ST30 or anything else?
Usually when you're playing a game you're sitting closer to the TV than the average person watching a movie. The difference between 1080p and 720p is going to be pretty obvious on a 51" screen from 8' away.
The anti-aliasing on the PS3 isn't really the best. I'm not someone who goes out of their way to get HD stuff -- I really don't care much about watching a Blu-Ray vs. a DVD. But there's a big difference between 1080p and 720p on PS3 games. The games are designed for 1080p, and a lot of them have small text that looks much worse on 720p.
I don't think the difference should be a big deal, but maybe they just do a bad job of downscaling.
