Hi guys,

I am looking for a new plasma TV, coming from a LG LCD 37". The only game I play daily is BF3.

What would be the best plasma ~55" to play battlefield 3 on xbox?

Thanks for your time,
Max

Grab yourself a Panasonic ST, model. Fantastic picture quality and the lowest input lag of any plasma on the market.

Be wary of IR. The new panasonics seem to be more prone to it than they were just a couple years ago. It shouldn't be an issue as long as you mix up your content regularly-- but I know you battlefield guys like to play for a minute and matches last a good while.

For Gaming in mind foremost I'd personally just look at a LED. Plus if you're coming from a 37" the smallest plasma is 50". And as Sage mentioned, with the current set of plasmas IR (image retention) can be an issue.

Actually, the smallest is a 42' Panasonic. Again, if he wants to buy new, I suggest getting the Panasonic ST50. Image retention really isn't a big deal and you can't find an LCD with as low of an input lag number as you could with the Panasonic.

42" ST50 doesn't exist stateside. In fact, I don't think Panasonic will be selling any 42" plasmas in the states other than the 720p XT50... And only time will tell if that one ever sees the light of day.

Some Panasonic lcds have input latency as low as their plasma brethren. In particular, the 37" from last year (forget the model number) was well regarded. I'd wait to see the tests on the 2012 before making a determination but I'd expect them to follow suit. The motion resolution won't be as high as a plasma but, again, Panasonic is known for being strong in this area. Of course, with 60fps games this won't be much of an issue.

UT is basically the ST without the anti-reflective filter and the super-black panel (ST has deeper blacks than the UT). It has fewer inputs (if you are like me you don't care) and the wifi is optional instead of standard as on the ST.

Ok thanks Tornado.. So between the GT and UT, which one would be the best for gaming? I assume watching movies and tv would still be a nice display?

Thanks,
Max

My brother-in-law bought a 50UT50 on Sunday and hooked his PS3 up last night. Hasn't done any gaming on it yet, but I'll weigh in once I hear or get a chance to try it out as well. I know he loves the picture for the Blu-Rays he's watched already.

I'm still here, but haven't had a chance to check it out while up and running. He hasn't gamed on it much yet to speak of, but will in the coming weeks.

I have both VT30 and Sony 929 LED, I would suggest the LED for gaming. The picture is much brighter and vivid for gaming than the plasma and there is no motion blur whatsoever.

Just my two cents.

Interested you say this. I was just about to order a 55HX929 until I read about all the banding so many are having. I may still go ahead with it because I love local dimming tech and I can probably live with it. But most here will tell you that plasma is better for gaming due to less input lag. So if the 929 games well that's a bonus for me.
