Did you read the directions? I have the older pair and they were simple to pair. Have you paired glasses before?

Silly question.

Are plasmas more susceptible to IR when just turned on?

I notice when I turn my tv on in the am the viera IRs but when I have had the tv on for a while and shut it off and then on a couple minutes later it does not.

Depends on who you ask and what your household electric is like. In most cases it is not worth the money imo.

I've had issues even with the official ones when connecting. Sometimes I just can't get em to work.

I seem to get IR almost every time I use my tv. Thankfully. It's only IR.

I have been reading and posting in this thread lately because I just ordered a 60GT50 from Amazon and it will be deliverd next week. I also ordered the new 2013 Samsung 3D glasses, as they are priced much lower than Panasonics and reviews stated they fit and work very well with the Panasonic Tv's.

I'm really looking forward to getting it and am sure I will be very pleased with it's performance. Most of my questions about settings and features can be answered in this thread and I want to thank members for contributing to it.

I will post my thoughts on the panel in the future and hope to contribute myself in any way that I can, although it seems most everything has already been covered in this big thread. I will not be breaking it in with slides. Id rather just watch full screen content and Planet Earth on BD for the 1st 100 or so hours.

I'm thinking of just setting it on THX Cinema or similar (since I have a dark room) for the time being and enjoying it. Any advice for a new owner just starting out with the GT50 would be much appreciated.

Use it however you plan to. Don't look for issues and enjoy your set. Never use a slide lol. NEVER

Yeah... I just sort of figured it out. I put Avatar 3D on, switched the TV into 3D mode, and wal-la! 3D! The instructions on the glasses said they needed to be registered, but it looks like the Gt50 doesn't need to have them paired via BlueTooth.

I can't even begin to imagine how ugly your old Westinghouse must have been if you think Standard -50's are an improvement.

Enjoy the new set smile.gif

Yeah, the 7 year old westinghouse 32" was not very good. We skipped entire generations of product improvements just to plain CCFL LCD's. LOL.

I already had cardiac arrest last night with my daughter watching Avatar collector's edition. Just absolutely mind-blowing. The space ship scene over pandora was absolutely incredible - and the forest at night had us both ooh-ing and aah-ing... it was like being at the theater. Yeah, I did check my kicker a couple times - there was some serious fluttering in the chest.

biggrin.gif

So.... Are you guys saying DO NOT RUN SLIDES and that I can use the TV in THX Cinema right away?

I read so much information about IR damage and conditioning the phospors for the first 100 hours - I really don't want to damage the set. I did get the geek squad warranty with it - but even still, the hassle wouldn't be worth it.

One other question - where is the list of movies that are the correct aspect to use the full screen for break in? At least that much is recommended right?

Translation: Jukebox seems to enjoy making his guests the butt of an inside joke; otherwise, why give them the "piss cheap glasses" for 3d tv watching, while he himself enjoys the perceived full benefits of the original panasonic glasses. What is more, he enjoys bragging about it on AVS forums... All in all, a very stand-up guy to visit, I'm just saying... errrrr no offense meant:)

IMAX: Under The Sea 3D. It's waiting for my new GT50 to arrive. It has a scene of a grouper that will float right in front of your face for maximum pop out. It is one of the best 3d films for effects.

Very nice! Thank you! I'll have to buy it now. I don't use 3D often. But it would be nice to have decent 3D content.

Your welcome. It's only a 45 minute film, narrated by Jim Carrey, but you won't be disappointed. I think it can be purchased pretty cheaply on the internet, since it's a documentary and not that long.
