KK,

A very good point and one I did not think of.

I was watching the Life of Pi Bluray last night and found the black levels to be lacking. Until recently I found the black levels to be excellent when using HD-Master's settings. Well after the movie I went into the menu to check the settings and found out real quick what the problem was. I had the brightness setting set to 75 and not 55 eek.gif. So I lowered the level to 55 and all is good again. I'm not sure how I did this but I'm thinking I went into the menu and set the brightness setting to to the contrast setting by mistake. I replayed some dark scenes of Life of Pi and it made a HUGE difference. So now I can forget about returning my 60GT50 thinking that it had some type of black level loss issue wink.gif.

Because him and others were talking about how it took so long and how it was impossible to find. I was curious as to how true that was and why. Turns out it wasn't very hard at all.

And thank you. Ill take pride in my rude like character. Ill be sure to point fingers at others in the future.

Who's ever stated that? If anything you want the exact opposite. More hours would be better vs less. Panels tend to change a bit as they age. The sooner you'd get it done the sooner it could all change. I'd get a set calibrated at 1000hrs vs 200. Could just be me though.

150 to 200 hours is the generally recommended minimum before getting a pro cal, sure you can wait a 1000 hours if you want but it will still drift from 1000 to 2000 etc

You should reread his post. You obviously didnt understand it because you are arguing the post while agreeing with it. Or maybe you just need to look up the definition of the word "minimum".

Not sure you understood what I was trying to say. You don't want to pay for a pro calibration until you have at least a certain number of hours on the set. Most people don't keep a journal of how long it's been on. So may be good to be able to check if you're not sure you've reached it yet.

Sometimes your posts look like you're just jumping way too quick and some of those make you look like a maniac. Sure being a maniac can be a good thing (dancing?) but not in your case- no it's not worthy of patting yourself on the back. cool.gif

Thanks, I did read them. But they're about connecting a PC to the P60GT50 using the PC input, not HDMI. Interestingly using the PC input they only support a little bit more than 720p, so looks like there are hoops I need to jump through.

The case may be youth. And thus the expression "youth is wasted on the young". Of this I am not sure but it may be the case here???

Why is everyone so touchy on this thread? Lol we are all interested in the same thing.

Quick question: I'm a best buy premier member and they offer a free tv calibration. Has anyone done it? Is it any good?

Welcome to AVS.

As for best buy. If its free. I'd at least try it. Some are better then others but most just don't seem to offer the real thing.

Maybe. Maybe not. Just as everything else in life. If its different. It's viewed as such. Young can seem naive and old can seem. Well... Old. This is a website. Judging who someone is over a website is just silly.

Use the link about owner's reports in the signature area at the bottom of my post. Check the links at the top of post number two (flat panel displays) for owner comments about BB calibrations. There are also links to BB calibration threads.

Judging someones age is silly. But not someones personality. We are all judged by the things we say and do. Just because its a website doesnt make that any different.

Normally I wouldn't even contribute to the rhetoric, however - I wouldn't say everyone is "touchy" in this thread. It basically went from a great thread with knowledgable folks posting great info to the likes of a high school chat room. The "contributions" (and I use that word very lightly here) made by a few have resulted in many of the professionals / experts "leaving the building". Just a short period of time and folks yet it sure derailed this thread in my mind.

As for your free calibration. I've never received one from BB, yet if free I would probably take them up on it.. If nothing else just to see how "professional" it really is. smile.gif

Cheers

With age comes time with time comes time. With time comes knowledge. Ironically enough. With time knowledge is lost. It's a giant circle lol.

Well, there is more than one definition to being a professional. I didn't call out or label any "professions".
Being a professional also implies and references ones demeanor, being conscientious and/or courteous in the way you handle yourself....

Personally, I wouldn't let them touch my GT50 or G25, even for free. I do have a piece of advice if you do take them up on that free deal, make sure you have ALL the original settings and can reverse anything that he/she does.

If you mean that D-Nice and Chad B have never posted in this thread, the record shows 18 posts for Chad B starting April 2012 through February 2013. D-Nice posted in this thread 20 times in 2012. They are professional calibrators.

There are other professionals in related fields that post in display related threads, if the particular model display interests them. Many of those professionals are from film or TV related areas. Recently someone discussed a particular Blu-ray film, and someone else, who had worked on the transfer of that film to Blu-ray, contributed to the discussion.

It's never wise at AVS to assume that you know who people are or aren't based on your own experience. The next person you exchange a post with might be a world renowned prize winning chemist with a home theater hobby. wink.gif

For those who really know this stuff, please forgive me if this is a silly observation... I've had my GT50 about three weeks now. Love it. I've got to have at the very least 200+ hours on it...
I can't watch more then 15 minutes of Fox News Channel before I start seeing their logo(s) IR. It is so frustrating! Call me naive, but I actually tried to phone the station to remind them that, 'Hey some of us have plasma TVs guys!'. Good luck with trying to find a human being in their 6th Avenue, 42 story, headquarters that will pick up the phone!

Hey, thanks for letting me vent. Now I'm running Sade "Coming Home" BD to wipe the pixels... cool.gif
