Don't have the pixel flipper unfortunately. I leave it in Vivid mode when using the slides. It's theorized that this helps to spread the mgo sputtering to bring back uniformity. I do see it on regular content in 3D mode, though not in the much tamer Professional modes.

the IR never shows during watching normal TV, occasionally on lighter screen you will see it (right after say you switch to watching tv after two hours of gaming) it will not bother you until you really look for it.

Burn-in -
I am not an expert on burn in vs IR - but there is a dark logo that i can see on bright/white images. It has been noticeable for about one month now.

Model Number - Panasonic VIERA TC-P65VT50

Number of Hours - I bought it almost 2 yrs ago and watch 3 hrs a day i guess.

Break-in performed - i guess not

Usage - I only watch 1080p movies with no logos.

However, when i'm not watching movies, i listen to my music collection on my PC hard drive using DLNA.
My Integra DHC-80.3 pre-pro has a nice DLNA client but it does not use a screen saver. So when you select a track on the TV, it leaves the DLNA logo in exact same spot.
When you return to folder or All Music, then the DLNA logo is removed. But when you pick another track it is back in exact same spot.
Some Saturdays i will listen to 50 tracks over 3 or 4 hours in one afternoon. Hence the DLNA logo burn in.
I think the color of logo was dark green and black. I can see it on white screens.
I only started using the Integra pre-pro DLNA client with the TV about 4 months ago.
Since noticing the logo, I now don't turn on my TV to listen to music - i use an iPad DLNA app to send tracks from PC to my Integra and the TV remains off.

I will try the scrolling bars. The logo does not seem to be disappearing which is disappointing.

But the TV does have spectacular images when watching Blu Ray.

I guess the right term (for now) is Image Retention...

Model: Panasonic TC-P60ST60
Hours: I bought the TV back in May, while it's the only TV it only gets (usually) moderate/lite use.
Break-in performed - Nope
Usage: a variety of content (football, basketball, HD TV, bluray via my PS3) played through my HTPC built with MythTV. Lots of usage using MythMusic when I have people over (more on this later)

How bad is the IR? Well I'll let you tell me (picture taken on Nov 11)...

I have been trying extensive use of the screen wipe (per instructions from the service reps I talked to 6 weeks ago) with no real change in the IR. I can say that I really abused the TV one evening - I had MythMusic up playing for about 8 - 10 hours as I hosted a group of friends playing MTG.

I wouldn't characterize a single 10 hour session as "abuse." if you played for several days with no other content then perhaps this would make sense but should there be such prominent IR after 10 hours?

Does this occur with high end Samsung plasmas as well?

I am debating between the 8500 and the VT65. Looks LIKE the VT has more number of cases for IR and burn in. Any one know if there is factual info about this?

I've got an S60 for my mom and myself, but am worried about IR/Burn-In for my mom. I'm concerned for myself as well as some of these cases are scary, but I have a much better chance of preventing it.

My mom will probably not watch a ton of CNN or Sportscenter, but she could easily fall asleep with a 4:3 channel on or something like the Today Show with a ticker on. It won't be practical to have her worry about varying content and such. Do you think this will be an issue? She mostly watches TNT, Hallmark channel and such.

-What about turning the Pixel Orbiter on?

-Changing the 4:3 side bar brightness settings seems to do nothing...why is that and would it help if I could set them to a lighter color? Her cable box does have a setting to turn them from dark gray which shows as black and also to med or light gray which does actually look gray. I'm guessing this is better than black? Still want to know why the tv setting seems to do nothing for this. Maybe that's just for OTA content?

Thanks!

leave the pixel orbiter on, in my experience and one other S60 owner's, it does help reduce IR (especially the persistent kind)

I can game with it on for hours and have no significant IR afterwards

This may be a moot point since Panasonic has discontinued plasma, but I use my TV for about 40% gaming, 30% movies, 30% TV shows.  Follow the instructions and don't game or watch 4:3 or letter box for the first 100 hours (I know, it takes self control, but you can use stretch or zoom if you need to).  There are some programs people put on DVD or SD cards that run through random colors for 100 hours so everything gets burned in evenly.  I would have gone that route, but my parents bought the TV and wouldn't let me (I'm the primary user of it though).

Honestly, I don't think it was a full 100 hours, but I used it this way for several months and just did my gaming elsewhere, or caught up on PC games.  Since then I haven't had any burn in.  Played through games without a mini-map being stuck in the corner, watched tv shows without a channel logo burn in.

If I watch a lot of movies or 4:3 TV shows, I do notice some color difference where the black lines were.  I think this is retention and not burn in as it goes away after a couple run throughs of the white stripe.  Using the gray setting on 4:3 also helps, but is somewhat annoying.

I love the TV.  I'm very disappointed that I won't be able to get one when I move out.  Unless OLED prices come down in the next year, I'm considering buying it off my parents and getting them and LCD since they hardly ever use the TV.  There's no discoloration if someone sit on the floor and looks up (my niece and nephew game on it a lot), and the picture is sharper and more realistic than LCD/LED.  Also, I never notice the annoying fake frames that 120hz LEDs add in.

One thing I'm careful about, though, is never leave one screen on for too long.  I purposely avoided plasma in my bedroom because I'll leave my desktop on the tv for hours at a time.  If you do that, you probably don't want plasma.  Also, they'll look washed out in a bright sunny room.

If you can still find a Panasonic, I say buy it.  At this point, I may look at Samsung Plasma if they're still made when I move out, but I have no idea they're quality.

Or if OLED prices keep dropping, buy a cheap house brand TV to hold you over until you can afford the new tech.  My guess is they discontinued it to make room for OLED and that prices will fall over the next couple years.

Another option I'm considering is a DLP projector.  They're very affordable and you can get huge screens, but you need darkness for them.  The original DLP chips had a problem for a while.  I don't know if its been corrected or not.

I have a TC-P55ST50 and the only time i've ever noticed IR is from netflix on my ps3. Beware of netflix! When you are in netflix (at least on ps3) there is a white/silvery box that does not move. The show and movie titles just move around to be inside that box but the box itself never moves. After having that box on every bright scene for months i learned to just go straight to search when i want to find what to watch while in netflix. Other than some other minor IR (that also goes away eventually) my plasma has been fine. They key thing here is that it seems all people are getting is IR, which goes away after a few months of watching other things. I think true, permanent burn-in though doesn't happen.

Sound and Vision has a link in there where you can download an iso DVD for image retention. Check it out- maybe worth trying.

Chris NYC also made this.

I have over 3000 hours on my ST60 everything has been smooth until viewing 3 hours of Fox Sports 1 mma fight night.

Their static logo provided strong watermark that I spent many days trying to shake.

A couple plays of "The Island" in 720p viewing cleared thing up thank goodness display is back to perfect.

Needless to say Fox Sports 1 is not on my Plasma TV watch list anymore ,

That's f,sure , They really need to tone them down.....a lot!

In 7 years of Plasma TV ownership Ive never come a across such a tuf static. The fox Sports 1 logo is plasmas worst enemy in my opinion.

Top right corner of display is on fire when viewing that channel.

Yeah 100% is pretty hefty true scorch.

Ive never viewed over 80% on any of mine which has been problem free....well until Fox Sports1 surprise.

That occurred with D-nice ST60 settings - Contrast 79 / Brightness +1

My wife is addicted to the ID channel as well. We have burn in on our bedroom plasma, a samsung 450d. My wife is a teacher and now that it's summer before bed I change the preset to one with super low contrast as she doesn't really care and sometimes it's just background noise for her. They recently switched their logo up where its more transparent but still too much white in it that still leaves some retention. Luckily though as much and easy as I get image retention on my st60, it goes away pretty easily at about 2500 hours. I'm still careful with it on bad channels like history, E!, ID, travel, etc as well as gaming. I've yet to have what I call "stubborn" IR yet. Nothing has lasted for more than a few hours in the first 1000 hours, and nowadays goes away in a handful of minutes. I'm still disappointed that with this many hours I can still get temporary IR almost instantly. I imagine it's gonna be this way pretty much the rest of the plasma life. I mean if it hasn't decreased by 2500 hours I just what would be any different at 3500 or 4500. Just something I gotta deal with I guess. At least no burn in. Still feel it's the best TV I've owned.
