seems like an improvement in black level(im not complaining about my 64d8000 blacks so non-issue for me).....with slightly less accurate colors.

overall it seems samsung focused more on the whole smart tv craze than improving pq. still a great set though and as always this is someone elses opinion
on it. ill reserve judgement till i see my brother's in action.

They actually tested LOWER black level on the e8000 than the st50, that's surprising. (though for all intents and purposes they were identical). Then again it was a 60 inch e8000 to the st50s 55 inch.

Looks good. Another contender, especially if 3D is a priority. Also, I don't believe the VT50 blacks are better then the ST50 according to the few reviews. Samsung also has less dithering, and false contouring.

You already know that for 2012?

Also the Panasonics were better when it came to pwm noise in the shades near black.

I think I'll still pull the trigger on the ST50 instead of this Samsung. But need more threads about this topic to make my final decision.

I'll wait for an OLED. They are to close to replace a 1 or 2 year old plasma right now with another plasma.

Looks like samsung has finally caught Panasonic on the great we're-still-worse-than-a-3-year-old-discontinued-product black level race!

Wonder if Panasonic saw this coming?

Wonder how much of a fire it lit under their asses to make the new ST50 a homerun?

Wonder if the E series regression in color accuracy and advancement in black level explains why Panasonic has typically lagged behind the competition in this regard?

Things that make you go: hmmm?

This is going to be an issue:

I was also a bit annoyed to see that in fades to black, the screen of the E8000 turned off completely, a behavior typically associated with LCDs and not plasmas. It does so more quickly than the PN59D7000 -- fast enough that the black screen flashed off and on distractingly during the black fades at the beginning of "Watchmen," for example. Neither the Sharp Elite nor the other plasmas turned off when fed black screens.

I have the E550 and it's flat out annoying. If you check out the E550 thread I've documented several instances where it's occured for me so far. Just finished watching U2's Rattle and Hum a little while ago and it happened once late in the movie, but once is enough when you're involved in a film to annoy the crap out of you.

Hopefully this issue gains the traction of last year's brightness pops and Samsung responds with firmware.

I have an E8000. The flickering is getting extremely annoying. Also CS Mode does not work as well my 2009 model Samsung.

Are there some issues with Panasonic GT50 or VT50 that one should worried about? 3D and 23.976fps blu-rays are my priorities absolutely zero sports.

I don't know about the GT and the VT but the ST50 2d was rated higher than the Samsung E8000 in one review.
