I was wondeing if anyone had thoughts on the VT50's black level and overall PQ. By all accounts the ST50 and the lower end UT50 have some of the best MLL and overall PQ pushing the boundaries for HDTVs this year. In my opinion, the VT50 has to not only match but also exceed these two lower end sets to justify its price. Can't wait to see the reviews start piling up

Our 65VT50 units have come in, can not wait until Chad stops by. Guess we will have to un-box the PN60E8000 and match them up head to head !

I support this sir! My vote is with the VT.

I've never understood why the VT only comes in 55" or 65" when the ST and GT come in 50", 55", 60", and 65".

I've never understood why so many different models. They should make the ST and VT only from 42 to 65" and eliminate the U and GT. Big price but also big quality differences.

Same as car manufacturers, different engines and specifications so that they appeal to a wider consumer range hence more overall retail sales - simples. If they only made a 65 VT, how many TV's would they sell.....

If they added 10 pt grayscale, gamma, and cms to the GT, that would be even better!

Unfortunately, they need 45 different series in order to compete with a certain "S" manufacturer that also has 45 different series. They need to have a series in each general price category that matches said series, otherwise they would lose customers that are shopping in that range.

The consumer should have choice and not be forced into either the bottom model or the top only. Firstly, the GT50 is really the best bang for the buck in regards to getting the best of both worlds, despite what the ST50 fans say. With the GT50 you're getting a lot of what the top of the line offers while staying in the "affordable" price point for many. The main thing that the ST50 has going for it is PQ and for for some people that's not enough, it's still crippled in regards to connectivity, lacks features only found in the GT and VT and while it's all about personal preference the ST50 has a "lower end" toy-like look to it, IMO, while the GT and VT look more professional and let's face it, these things are going in our homes and they are considered furniture.

The UT and U are very important TV's to consider. Some people want just a "TV" while still having one or two of the latest features such as 3D which is what the UT is all about. The U50 is a perfect no frills, no nonsense HDTV and there are people that just want that and nothing else.

Did I say they should make one single model and one single size ? Read my post again.

Easy......I did read your post properly the first time and I know you didnt say one size. You asked a question and I provided some feedback that's all.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forums, and after reading the great reviews of this TV in several places, and seeing one for myself, I was ready to make the purchase of the 55VT50. I'll be picking it up Wednesday or Thursday, so I'll let you know how everything goes when I get my Blu-ray set up and all.

Ordered my 65" VT50 this morning from BB--going to be delivered Thursday morning. We went in planning on ordering a GT, but saw the VT and decided to go for it--we didn't think we'd be able to take wondering how much more we may have liked the VT, and we want to keep it for a few years (hopefully), so what the hey. Here's to the last 5 days of floating blacks!

So has it been confirmed that the brightness limitation will NOT be on the US sets?

Also, I assume the US version will have a THX bright room setting?

Those who have purchased the 65VT50 from Magnolia/BBY, do you have a sku? I stopped by my local MHT and they only had a sku for the 55 as they had just received it today.

I was just at Best Buy/Magnolia today, and only saw the 55inch on display, I don't know if they even have the 65 yet. I bought mine today, because it was the last day of their sale.

Yeah, I saw the 55 as well. Great looking display. They had it in THX bright room.

All the experts disagree with you. It's kinda hard to award best bang to a midrange set that has half the features of the VT but still comes with a 30% price increase over the ST. Most on here see those added" features" for what they are, useless bells and whistles. For the useful options like 96hz and CMS you have to go with the VT. Many have also found the chrome trim on the GT too distracting and cheap looking.

We ordered our 55 yesterday too. Very excited, set to be delivered Thursday 10th...we are going from an ancient hitachi ultra 50 LCD 720p. Should be a welcomed change. Wasn't sure about the black tie service, bought the 2 year agreement for now, gives you options for 4 when the 2 are up...still seems kind of pricey, especially when I just got 8 years out of an LCD bulb. Maybe I'm due trouble....

I agree. At my Magnolia, the VT is in one of the "Studio" rooms off the main room, and I was sure to have them crank the lights all the way up to watch for awhile--it handled the light AT LEAST as well as any gloss-screen TV I've ever seen.
