Update for Canadian buyers...

Went to my dealer on Friday and asked to see any of the VT50s. Nothing. I was told that two Panasonic reps were coming to the store this Wednesday and check back on Thursday for any updates. No pricing info as of yet on the 65, as that is what I'm buying.

If anyone has more concrete info, please post.

I'm seriously considering picking one of the 65" ones up from Panasonic EPP. I have a Samsung DLP 6187W that's about to need it's second bulb and starting to have glare in the upper left corner from some slight sagging. So now seemed like the time to buy. I just had a few questions...

1) I'll use this TV in my living room which can get fairly bright from about 160 degree angle on one side. Would this be a good choice for that?

2) I do some gaming, but that's maybe 5-10% of the TVs use, should that be any problem?

3) Do most people mount these or place them on a stand, they seem incredibly heavy. I have a glass topped Bell'o stand I was wondering if it would break, and if a mount is necessary are the monoprice low-profile ones that hold like 165lbs fine?

4) Based on past history is the EPP deal fairly sound for the next 3-4 months? I can wait that long if necessary if we expect pretty large price drops, I know last year's dropped about 1500 over the course of the year, but most of that seems to be in the last few months.

Thanks for your help!!

I game 40% of the time and have yet to have a problem with a single plasma that I have owned.

Thanks for the feedback, it's replacing a Costco Samsung LED 7050 that I've had on the mount for a month or so, which acts like a mirror during the day, am interested to see the difference

Mumps, a couple of us on this forum have purchased the 65VT50 from Visions Electronics here in Canada. I paid $3700 plus taxes and another person paid $3850 I believe. The store I bought mine from doesn't have them in yet and only sees one on order for their store right now so I wanted to get my name on it. Visions has a 2 month price protection policy so will have to keep an eye out for sales. Probably in the next week or two they might start showing up from what I have heard.

No, I didn't buy any glasses yet. I would think somewhere around that date too or maybe early the following week.

Do you have a static mount, or does it have tilt capability? Putting on the same mount may not give you different results. It probably has a better anti-glare coating, but the difference will be negligible. Depending on where the light is coming from, a 5-10 degree downward tilt may help.

Though I am an employee of Magnolia Home Theater, the views and opinions I express on this forum are those of my own and not my employer.

Unfortunately Visions does not deliver the larger sets (> 50" I believe) to Ontario and east, so that doesn't help Mumps in Ottawa. I spoke with Gibby's in St Catherines, ON (who will ship to Ottawa) and they indicated around May 19 for the 65" GT and VT, but they had no price yet. Higher Definition in Oakville, ON will also ship and they quoted me $3150 for the 65GT50 and $3800 for the 65VT50. FYI, Future shop salesperson confirmed that they have 200 65VT50's and 10 65GT50's in their system (odd ratio!) for the Toronto West district with availability planned for 3rd week in May, so other areas should have them around then too.

UPDATE: A few minutes after typing this post Gibby's called to let me know that the 65GT50 I had on hold will hit their warehouse TOMORROW (Monday May 7) and could be delivered this week!! So Panasonic is shipping earlier than anticipated . Unfortunately I had to temporarily cancel my order as the built in shelving we are constructing in the family room may only hold a max 60" unless we can work a re-design .

Many have also found the chrome trim on the GT too distracting and cheap looking.

The GT does not have half the the features of the VT and it's not a midrange set, it's just below the top of the line. Maybe you're getting your facts mixed up and forgot the ST is the midrange model. The VT has more distracting chrome than the GT and the ST is the one that looks cheap. Seems like you're a fanboy of the VT or the ST and I've offended you. I'm not even going to dignify the rest of your nonsense post with an answer. Also if you think I really care if the "experts" disagree with me? I don't. I'm the consumer, that's who's the judge, not some so-called expert.

Anybody know? I can't imagine the US VT series not as bright as ST...as most want to put them in a bright room.

Yes. It has been confirmed by AVJ and discussed on HDJ, and i think D-Nice confirmed it to.

Also, I assume the US version will have a THX bright room setting?

Yes, just like the GT50 has. It's also shown in the manual.

The specs sheet from Panasonic shows that the 2012 Viera line screen sizes 50" and below swivel and anything larger does not. My 55GT50 does not swivel.

My 42UT50 does not swivel. Well, I tried at least but felt I was putting too much pressure as it wasn't budging. If someone can confirm that it does then I'll try harder.

I didn't know that. I thought $2199 was the regular price and $2499 was an online error.

None of the UT50 sizes swivel. The only 2012s that swivel are the higher end 50" ST50 and 50" GT50 AFAIK.
