Sorry, I didn't notice you were in the UK. The US models have the Custom mode which is the only one with the full Pro menu unless you unlock it with ControlCal or CalMAN.
I assume the Pro 1 & 2 are the same as ISF Day & Night

No, it trails down to around 2.25 I am using normal and mid. Actually with those settings 2.4 tails down to about 2.5 and 2.2 drops to about about 2.0.
These readings are from the old firmware on the VT50.

Anyone else find that they're so focused on calibration and picture quality on their new VT50 that they're not into the movie/show as much as they would like?

I wish some of the UK lads would be so nice as to post some calibrated settings. I'd love to try some. I have tried some US ones posted here but obviously they are way out plus you guys get options we don't.

I worked with the Night settings last night and when set at 2.2 there was too much adjustment. When set at 2.4 I did very little. The picture is gorgeous.

My ISF Night settings are in the XML file here:
http://www.controlcal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6497&postcount=18
Light output is at 34 ftL which should be good for a dark room.

I've got them here but not 100% confident I know how they line up and correspond with the selections in the menu as I'm not familiar with the order controlcal organizes the numbers in.

Here are the numbers, if anyone cares to tell me the order I'd be happy to put it in an easier to read format.

80 52 0 0 50 0 0 -2 0 7 3 0 -1 Warm 2 2.4 Normal Medium Off Off Off -6 -5 -10 27 35 -11 22 50 -10 -16 2 5 5 1 8 -1 -14 4 0 0 3 7 0 3 4 0 1 4 0 2 2 0 -2 1 0 -1 0 0 -5 -1 0 1 -2 0 -4 -3 0 -4 -11 10 8 7 3 5 1 2 -1 0

the XML should open in Explorer on a Windows machine. The formatting should work.
Give me a few and I'll try it from here and post the pdf

In the XML file those data values should be labeled. I've noticed that they doesn't exactly match up to the order of the menu settings, but it's better than nothing.

EDIT: OOPS... I should try refreshing the thread before replying. Looks like you have it under control!

once and if you do an actual calibration, I'm confident you will prefer ControlCAL's layout to the display's...

one change I may do is combine the 10pts (w/b&gamma)..

I have no idea. Anytime you copy someone's settings it is a hit or miss. If you like your current settings write them down and then try mine. Be aware these are night settings so they are made for a dark or dimly lit room.
My Day settings are in this thread too.

I agree, wmwilker, your settings are spot on especially with the colors. I just adjusted the contrast and brightness for my room using the DVE Blu Ray, and the new settings after the update are AMAZING. These settings will definitely do until I can buy the equipment and calibrate it myself. Thanks a million.

Agreed, I plugged them in as well and on my 3D settings and think they look fantastic! Watching Planet Earth now with the great sir David Attenborough and while this transfer is noting all that special compared to some other nature programs it is looking fantastic now! Not a bad disc to use to break in either, I run this on repeat for the night on nights I've played the 4hr xobx session.

The day settings looks great too but since mose of my critical watching is at night I'm sticking with the night settings for my 3 sources and will use THX Lightroom for day viewing until I get my calibration.

I've heard (no personal experience) that the i1pro (the pro2's predicessor) had trouble with low light levels and someone around here would only use it down to 30 IRE due to that problem. That's why many use an better meter to profile a color meter that will read at lower light levels. If you kept your colormeter, you probably could do the same.

My i1pro2 is on order so I'm also trying to figure this out.

My i1pro2 is on order so I'm also trying to figure this out.

The i1Pro2 has two advantages over the i1Pro1, time between dark readings and temperature stability. They both are accurate down to 30% peak white which will measure +/- 2.5 Foot Lamberts. They are unreliable at lower luminance points. The best affordable Colorimeter is the X-Rite Display 3 which is accurate to .001 FtL. The D3 can be easily profiled from either the i1Pro1 or i1Pro2 and used throughout any calibration for faster reads, better accuracy at low luminance, and no dark readings.

I use Chromapure. I have an i1 Pro and a i1 D3 Pro. I've been using the spectro on these last 2 cals. 10 & 20 are both erratic but if I keep at it I can get a close reading.
I will probably go back and try with the D3 Pro when I get time just to see if it actually makes a difference.
BTW I recently had Tom Huffman re-calibrate my i1 Pro so I feel very confident in it's accuracy.

Hey there,

I also have the European version of 55VT50 and I do struggle with the settings. Did you manage to calibrate the display to be better than the built in THX mode?

I tend to believe that the Eur model does not even have some of the menus the guys are talking about here eek.gif
