I'm thinking of buying a display model Panny TCP46ST30 for $500 at my local target, but when I went there to take a look, the representive guy I asked said that there were no returns accepted for it. However, when I had talked to a guy on the phone at that same Target just a few days earlier, he said display model HDTVs had a 45-day return period. Who is righ and who's mistaken. I want to pick up this TV but I want to be able to return it if it's in lousy condition or I just end up not liking the model. Please help me out here. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure open box items at stores like Target and BB is the same as if it were new, so 30 days more or less.

Email Target with your question so that you have written proof of what you were told by the rep.

The customer service rep told me 90 days with the receipt even for the display, just like everything else.

It seems to change depending on who you talk to. I called about returning a small vacuum and they said i could get a refund, then when i took it in the returns desk said i could only get a store credit. I talked to another rep a half hour later and she said i could only exchange it towards another vaccum, not a whole store credit. YMMV.

Hmm... I asked one of the store attendants what their return policy was on their Bose AE2 and was told they would not accept returns for an opened item. I walked over to the customer service desk and was handed a blank receipt and told they DID have a return policy for opened electronic merchandise and so I returned to the store attendant and he explained to me that they would not accept the item back regardless of the written policy because taking back 'used' headphones would be gross...

I don't really do any business with Target, but I find it incredible if they don't have an actual written policy .. both for in store and on line ..

If the set doesn't work correctly, then return it.
But if you don't like the model ? Do a little research and use your brain ?

You should know that before buying it, if you don't like it just don't buy it.
When you buy a car, you also return it if you don't like the model ? What about your house ? also return it ?

I think the whole "Tv return policy" is getting heavily abused like some members stated earlier on these forums. We are all going to pay this one day.

Don't be surprised if you see "No returns accepted" in a few years walking into Best Buy or Costco. This is going overboard.

What tt08 said, "90 days". Same with Costco.

Lol! This post cracks me up!

Seriously, he was asking about whether target even HAD a return policy on display models, no need to get into an ethics discussion!

Bottom line: if you bought a floor model I'd be willing to bet that you would want a GUARANTEE you could return it back to the seller. Reason: what if one week after setting it up you notice a flaw in the picture or discover that one of the hdmi ports was broken due to misuse? New TVs sell with return policies so it's only natural he'd want the same consideration buying a USED display!

There's already a thread about the 'ethics' of returns: take the high and mighty attitude over there.
