I currently own a 40 inch 120hz LCD from Sony. I went to look at a Panny plasma GT50 at BB today and was impressed.

I'm wondering what kind of difference between the two i can expect or any other plasma for that matter. Do you think there will be a huge picture improvement or only a minimal one.

I'd like to upgrade to 3D and these newer plasmas look nice and are a little more around my price range.

I'd say it's going to be pretty dramatic. The EX500 was a nice set, but the GT50 will be leaps and bounds beyond it.

I have a full-array LED backlit Sharp LCD and the difference in image quality is pretty huge between it and my VT50.

Are you saying that the VT50 has a better image quality? I looked at that one also but not sure if I need a beast like that yet...lol

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. The GT50 will have much better motion handling, viewing angle, contrast, and black level compared to your EX500. Once you become accustomed to the natural, cinematic look of a plasma display, you'll find it difficult to watch an LCD

I just replaced my KDL40EX500 with a 50" GT50 a month ago and have no regrets. fatuglyguy pretty much stated the advantages. Like you I wanted to get into 3D and to my eyes I am very impressed with the 3D picture so far.
That said I still think the Sony was a really good TV for the money.
