I searched the forum but couldn't find a page that actually had some settings. I kept seeing 'D-Nice' settings mentioned. Not sure what or who that is but I never found them. Any help would be great.

I ended up getting all Panasonic stuff yesterday. Never done that before! Got a 3D bluray player, sound bar and the plasma. I'm pretty upset with the guy at Bestbuy that helped me. He gave me the older model glasses for the GT30 sets. I spent 3 hours researching, troubleshooting, etc to find out why I'm not getting a 3D picture. With in 10 minutes of bedtime I figured it out. Going back there today to share with them my story! smile.gif

You might find some settings that get you close but you are better off doing you own basic adjustment with a calibration disc. AVS709 is a good one and free. Enjoy your new set smile.gif

Thanks! Is that a disc I can download on this site? If so, where can I locate that?

Edit: I found the thread. Thanks!

I'm using the VT settings posted on CNet, minus the 10pt w/b. They're just as good or slightly better than THX Cinema IMO. Plus you get control of Motion Smoother & Pixel Orbiter, if that floats your boat. smile.gif

I'll give them a try! I'm not looking for perfection so anything is worth a shot. Can you link me?

Can OP share model of panasonic sound and how you liked it? I'm deciding between hi end soundbar and mid level 2.1 or 3.1 system.
If anyone wants to share on the new I beleive Pokl that just came out... that'd be great.

The soundbar is SC-HTB350 for $300. It's decent for what it is. Very simple and fits my needs for family room. if you have the budget and want a real 5.1 then go that route. Otherwise it does what it should and the sound isn't to bad. I'm no expert though.

I've had my GT50 for about 4 days now and HDTV on my set looks bad. During sports, the picture looks snowy, grainy and backgrounds look like they lose focus or focus in late. Does anyone have similar issues when watching HDTV cable?

I want to love this television because blu-rays look soo nice and gaming isn't that bad. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Since Blu-Rays look so nice then the issue you have with HDTV on cable is being caused by your cable company's signal, or your cable box, or your box settings, or your connections, or a combination of those. The poorer the cable signal is, the worse it will look on a good Flat Panel TV.

We need this important info to help narrow down your problem:

Who is your cable provider? What City?

What brand/model is your cable box/DVR?

Exactly how is it connected to your GT50?

What output resolution do you have the cable box set to? (Native/Pass Through, 480p, 720p, 1080i)?

Which channels are you watching that look poor? What kinds of sports?

What picture mode are you using on your TV? And what are your picture settings?

I'd start a new topic for your issue as well as this topic was started for calirbation questions not issues with HDTV.

Thx. I'm seriously thinking of this lo end bar because:
1. It's only $200 on Amazon and I have some points!
2. It has blue tooth to stream spotify
3. The sub will fit in a great spot -wirelessly
4. The speaker looks streamlined.
5. I have Viera link, so tv remote should work with it

My only concerns are sound quality. I'm hoping it sounds decent in my 16 x 20 room, sitting 8-9 feet from source. If I take the plunge, I'll determine if it sounds decent enough for our needs/ears and go from there. It's not a big investment either way. I can always upgrade and give this to my college daughter later. biggrin.gif

Can I make a couple of suggestions to try?
In Custom Mode
Color Temp Warm 2
Contrast 80 to 85 (you can go higher if you want brighter)
Video NR Off
Black Ext Off or 0
Gamma Adj 2.4
Panel Brightness Mid (bringing the Contrast up will give you a brighter picture so this will equal out-Panel High should be avoided)
Contour Emphasis Off
Motion Smoother Off

The W/B settings could be set back to the default settings if the colors look bad.

Try that and see if it looks better

Mike

I suggest trying the following (from my painstaking full calibration):

Custom Picture Mode
Contrast +80 to +85
Brightness +57
Color +51
Tint +3
Sharpness 0
Color Temp: Normal
C.A.T.S: Off
Video NR: Off
Color Space: Normal
W/B High R 0
W/B High G +1
W/B High B -6
W/B Low R -18
W/B Low G -25
W/B Low B -7
Black Extension 0
Gamma Adjustment 2.4
Panel Brightness: Mid
Contour Emphasis: Off
AGC: 0
Block NR: Off
Mosquito NR: Off
Motion Smoother: Off
Black level: Light

Thanks for the suggestions, tried them and the picture was still bad.

It could be my cable signal or I may have a defective GT50, I'm having a TWC tech come out on Saturday to check it out. I found it very difficult to watch the NBA Finals game 2 last night...so much snow/noise/grainy images.

I wish the Video NR, Block NR and Mosquito NR actually worked on this set.

Any GT50 owners on Time Warner Cable having the same issues??

Yes that night I had the problems I figured it out just researching. Had to go to a different Best Buy to get the right ones though.

Hi,

Are these for watching cable only or is this what you use for Blu Ray movies too? Just curious. Thank you

No disrespect meant however at $200 for your home theater audio which consists of a soundbar and wireless subwoofer you shouldn't expect much in regards to sound quality. If it sounds "fair" then great but if it doesn't don't be disappointed. That being said I'm waiting for the Atlantic Technology Powerbar 235 to arrive late this summer. It will be my home theater for my GT50. Cost for this sound bar will be around $800 and although it's gotten rave reviews so far I'm not expecting the audio of a 7.1 sound system.

Made a ton of adjustments over the weekend to help the PQ but no dice.

Thanks so much RWetmore. I am new to plasma and prior to my P55gt50 I have had a couple of LCD's over the last 6 years. I have not enjoyed some of the other calibrations published out there for every day (mid brightness room) viewing of Directv content. This has been the most digestible to my eyes, with the cooler cast and balanced colors/brightness. I will stick with THX for nighttime Blu-ray viewing etc.. but this finally fit my bill for everyday viewing. I really appreciate you sharing the fruits of your labors redface.gif)
