Hey guys!

I own the Samsung 59d6500 plasma tv and for the last couple months ive noticed something stuck on my screen that is always there. I notice this image when a bright white screen is displayed or even sometimes through peoples faces. I use a Denon 4311ci receiver for my surround sound and the image that I see is of what looks to be something that says "denon" . My son plays xbox games and sometimes falls asleep with the Denon screen on (not fully turning everything off before he goes to bed). Now, I don't know the correct terminology but could this be a burn in image? Something left in one spot on the screen for hours and it burns itself in? Is there any way at all that I can fix this or should I call warranty? I really hope I can fix this myself. I have been so busy at work and haven't been able to look into this issue until now.

Your help is very much appreciated.

If you're lucky, it's not burned in, just retained (aka, IR). Warranty will not cover this, so all you can do is try the usual treatments like running the scrolling pattern found in the menu (System>Screen Burn Protection>Scrolling) overnight a few times. It may take many hours to reduce or remove the Denon logo. You can also try the orbiter and auto screen saver functions to prevent further damage.

It is called image retention and is a bigger problem than many plasma tv owners will admit to. Go to the start of the plasma threads and read at least the last 5/10 pages or more of the sticky thread "Master Burn In/IR/Break In".

Well, around here, "image retention" (IR) is generally used to refer to a temporary condition. Many plasmas will recover very quickly from this. "Burn in" refers to mostly permanant phosphor damage that may fade a little but usually will not go away completely. We do not know which condition dasanii19 has, but the persistance would suggest it's more of a burn.

IR and burn is absolutely not a problem for most of us really, but then most are careful not to leave static images on the screen for hours on end (and every plasma specifically says not to do this in the manual). The fast fading IR is also not very commonly reported from what I've seen (especially not for the D series). I haven't seen much useful info in the sticky, besides using an inverse image or special utilities such as Zoyd's washer:

Personally, I think the scrolling utility that Samsung has built into the TV should be just as effective. It was designed for this purpose.

Also, if you use zoyd's disc, he suggests that you turn contrast, brightness and cell to max. I don't think those settings are active when using the built in scrolling, so no need to change your settings.
