At this point, I think it's possible to say that Panasonic has the equivalent of a 9G kuro with the ZT60.

If this is a taste of what's the come with the 2014 sets, there will be some amazing plasmas released for good prices.

We still don't know what the 60+ size panels are going to measure in mll for the ST or VT, so they be hitting 9G blacks, too.

Probably not but I don't know how sensitive you are with black levels.

You do realize that you already have a reference panel, right smile.gif. Not sure how you can upgrade reference beyond size. Don't expect the ZT60 to be a black as a 9.5G Pioneer if that was your question. It could equal a 9G Pioneer in blacks... depending on which sample you compare it to.

I don't understand why you keep glossing over and forgetting the fact that mastermaybe was responding to your original unequavalent example, posted below with my bolding in blue, i.e., Panasonic non-MSRP street pricing vs. Pioneer MSRP. But your post above is another recent example where you've been claiming that you're only comparing MSRP (again, highlighted for you in blue). But that's not true and that's how this little "skirmish" w/mastermaybe began.:

Panasonic 65VT50 = $2283.00 pre tax.

The Kuro prices began to plummet because no one was willing to pay retail. They didn't fall from price matching...they fell because they weren't selling at those prices....and Pioneer announced early on that they were quitting the display business (which always kills prices).

Perhaps it's time you looked into some ginkgo biloba supplements? tongue.gif

Mourning the disappearing usage of the -ly suffix. Words being cut-off before they've had a chance to fully form, left incomplete, with their shoelaces untied and their zippers undone. If I quote your post (or post in your thread) without comment, please check your zipper.

The GT/VT50's were released in May '12, correct? So we shouldn't see these pop up for order for another 3 months or so or am I way off? I'm pretty well sold on the VT50 but if I could get a VT60 for a bit more I might be inclined to wait it out.

What if one is "afflicted" with a 9G 50" that hasn't benefited from your magic touch? Wouldn't a 60" or 65" ZT be considered an upgrade and not a drop in reference status? wink.gif

Probably. smile.gif I stand corrected and apologize to all. I posted that so long ago I forgot about the details. But in retrospect it does look like I was changing the playing field. That said; I still stand by my original premise that at MSRP or with prices discounted; Panny brought a TV that is kuro close at about the 1/2 the price.

I posted Pio MSRP because that the price I could find 5 years later. I posted my price because that's what I paid. So; even factoring discounts...we're still at the panny costing about 40% - 50% less.

Haha, sometimes I forget how good I have it smile.gif

I was curious if the ZT60 was getting as black as a 101fd/500m, so thanks for the answer.

Pure speculation till we get the zt out to the masses, it could be worse, or better. Time will tell. From what i saw, its atleast as good, but who really knows for sure what the production model will bring.

Refresh my memory, what panel do you have currently? Are you on the brink of upgrading this year or waiting until 2014?

Sorry but I don't speculate. I see the same comments each year. Last year people were hoping for 0.001fL from the VT50 and I advised them to expect between 0.002 and 0.0025fL. What do the VT50s measure again smile.gif

I am still curious about any bump in peak brightness on the zt60? anybody? :-) No?

I want my next TV to have "smell the glove"-blacklevel. I got me an st50 and I think I can smell some leather in a not too far away distance somewhere.

True. Any information on what the ZT60 should be at in terms of fl?

You have obviously posted in the wrong forum. This is the Plasma forum and you're in the Panasonic Plasma TV thread.

You need to post your question in the HDTV Recorders forum, but if you bought this DVR from Ebay or sumthin and you're trying to use it with your cable company then you're probably out of luck. Usually these DVRs are owned by the cable company and are not sold to the public or to be resold by private individuals, and they usually are not authorized for use on their network.

Go to this link and discuss it there - http://www.avsforum.com/f/42/hdtv-recorders

I've got a 500m and am looking to upgrade in 2014 to a larger panel and honestly, 60" is enough for me. I'm hoping the 2014 tech is so good that the ST70 (or whatever they end up calling it) beats out a ZT60 in picture quality, sort of the way the ST50 was able to beat the VT30.

I can't even remember what was signified over on HDJ about stuff that Panny is working on. I'd have to go back and comb through that thread, but I thought there was something that D-Nice had mentioned that Panny was researching, which had never been done before in plasma, but I don't want to put words in people's mouths.

Anyway, I don't even know if what Panasonic is researching will be in their 2014 line- it's just been hinted that 2014 will have new panels v. the using the same panels for 2013 with the exception of the ZT60. Let's just hope 2013 ends up being as good as 2012 was for their plasma division.

I'm actually most interested to see what sort of improvements the VT60 will have over the VT50.

OK, well, it seems you could get away with either upgrading or staying put. I have the 111FD and think I could get accustomed to 65" in my viewing environment without much difficulty/adjustment (made easy with equitable black levels). Let's just say I'm very tempted by this ZT60 and maybe even the Samsung...may have to wait until the shootout arrives to get the definitive answer (even if it is the LG OLED, which I have little interest in owning at the premium being asked). Of course, I'll probably be regretting any such 2013 purchase once the 2014 announcements come forward.

2014 might be the way to go, but my next purchase after that is 4k OLED, which I'm hoping Panasonic can get down to the $3-$4k range in 2016/17, so I'm trying to make this last 1080P purchase count, haha
